This chapter provides a general overview of Ethereum governance and culture. It describes the coordination mechanisms that allow blockchain stakeholders to make legitimate decisions in the Ethereum ecosystem. It shows how Ethereum uses the open-source model to develop and maintain the protocol, with a particular emphasis on how major changes are implemented using Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs). Finally, it provides a short tour of various Ethereum subcultures such as cypherpunk, regens and degens.
