VEDANTA 2.0 — KNOWLEDGE IN STORAGE, UNDERSTANDING IN MOTION

Vedanta2.0 Agyat Agyani

Zenodo Description VEDANTA 2.0 — KNOWLEDGE IN STORAGE, UNDERSTANDING IN MOTION: A RAM Dynamics Perspective on Human Life This paper is the second paper in the Vedanta 2.0 series and explores human life through an illustrative Jiva-PC analogy. The paper focuses specifically on the distinction between knowledge as accumulation and understanding as a living process in the present. Within the framework, the Hard Disk is used as an analogy for Chitta—the domain of accumulated knowledge, education, experience, information, memory, wealth, and other forms of storage. RAM is used as an analogy for Manas—the present flow of thoughts, memories, reactions, and information actively operating in the current moment. The central proposition is expressed through the sutra: Knowledge may be stored; understanding must remain alive. The paper uses a simple computer Task Manager example—CPU at 13%, Memory at 89%, Disk at 7%, and Network at 0%—to illustrate the distinction between what is stored and what is currently active. The example is not presented as a scientific proof of a theory of consciousness, but as a conceptual indication for observing a similar distinction in human life. The paper distinguishes knowledge from understanding. Knowledge consists of what has been learned, read, heard, known, or accumulated through experience and can therefore be stored. Understanding, in contrast, is described as the capacity to see what is happening in the present, what is necessary in the present situation, and how accumulated knowledge should be used at that moment. From this perspective, a large amount of accumulated knowledge does not necessarily imply a clear or intelligent present response. A person may possess extensive knowledge about anger, fear, relationships, or human behaviour, yet the significant question in an actual moment is what is operating in the mind at that moment. Understanding therefore remains dynamic rather than becoming merely another stored belief. The paper further explores the meaning of keeping RAM empty. This does not mean becoming thoughtless or erasing memory. It means not keeping what is unnecessary continuously active in the present. Memories and knowledge may remain in Chitta, while the mind remains available for the present. A further distinction is made between the learned person and the person with understanding. The former may possess a large accumulation of knowledge, while the latter may have greater inner space to see the present and use accumulated knowledge according to the situation. Emptiness here is therefore not an absence of knowledge, but an absence of unnecessary activity. The paper also introduces Zero-Point as an indication of resting in inner awareness without unnecessarily carrying beliefs, old memories, identities, or habitual reactions into the present. In this sense, Zero-Point does not mean thoughtlessness; it indicates the possibility of not continuously loading unnecessary material into the present mind. The purpose of the paper is not to prove or disprove modern scientific conclusions. The computer model is used as an illustrative language through which ordinary human experience can be observed. In this sense, the paper presents a direction toward what the author calls Jeevan Vigyan (Life Science)—an inquiry into life through direct observation, understanding, and lived experience. The paper concludes that knowledge does not need to be erased. It can remain stored and be brought into the present when required. What matters is that understanding does not become another fixed accumulation. Hard Disk may be full; RAM can still be free from unnecessary load. The paper is therefore an invitation to observe the distinction between what is stored within us and what is actually operating within us now. Keywords: Jiva-PC, RAM Dynamics, Chitta, Manas, Smriti-Pravaha, Knowledge, Understanding, Viveka, Zero-Point, Vedanta 2.0.

Yuanxian Theory: The Complete Establishment of the Meta-Cognition of the Cosmic Living Organism (A Strict Proof of the 64-Dimensional Structure via the Clifford Algebra Cl6(R)) — A Thirty-Year Path of Elevation from Holographic Wisdom for Health to YXT/YD-T64

Zhenyuan Acharya

Yuanxian Theory is the meta-cognition of the Cosmic Living Organism. This paper (Version 2) systematically presents the complete intellectual trajectory of Yuanxian Theory (YXT / YD-T64) from philosophical foundation to fully formalized mathematics. Its philosophical root is Holographic Wisdom for Health (Zhenyuan Acharya, Changming Culture, March 2025, ISBN 978-986-496-631-8). Yuanxian Theory is the dimensional elevation of that work onto the topological ontology of T64, and the formalized mirror of the meta-cognition of the Cosmic Living Organism. Four conceptual mappings structure the path: cosmic holography → T64 closed-chain topology; four fundamental laws → formal TCSC / FSC / STM / SRM; six-dimensional cosmos → complete pairing on the 64-torus; one unitary phase → cosmic uniqueness. Core mathematical foundation (new in Version 2): a strict proof of the 64-dimensional structure via the Clifford algebra Cl6(R). With six fundamental binary categories as base space V6, dim Cl6(R) = Σ binom(6,k) = 1+6+15+20+15+6+1 = 2^6 = 64. This graded structure exhibits Pascal-triangle symmetry and intrinsically contains Spin(6), establishing dimension 64 as combinatorial and algebraic necessity rather than an ad hoc claim. Closed interlocking with Silent Illumination Commensuration: ω_Cl = e1…e6 as algebraic manifestation of Silence–Illumination–Dynamis; Spin(6) ≅ SU(4) as unique channel of four-dimensional projection; ω_Cl² = −1 and compactness of Spin(6) as algebraic proof of “Infinity is Zero.” With the eight existence laws as logical axis and a pyramid knowledge topology (algebraic foundation → root → elevation → corollary → landing), the paper establishes Yuanxian Theory as the supreme constitution of the meta-cognition of the Cosmic Living Organism. Version 1 DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.21768608. Related: Silent Illumination Commensuration (doi:10.5281/zenodo.21783656). Version 1 DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.21768608。关联:《寂照通约》(doi:10.5281/zenodo.21783656)。

It from Consciousness (HIOF•IfC) — Paper V The: Causal Ledger and Low-Entropy Inscription

Wai-Hung (Pan) Tam

HIOF•IfC (It from Consciousness) SeriesA Holographic Information-Ontological Framework for Consciousness, Form, and Cosmic Transaction The HIOF•IfC series develops a unified holographic information-ontological framework in which consciousness is not an emergent epiphenomenon but a fundamental structuring principle of reality. Building on the t = ∞ Time Ocean Model (TOM) and the Holographic Information Ontological Framework (HIOF), the series proposes a distributed, non-centralized ontology of information inscription in which low-entropy structures emerge through the autonomous phase-matching of information networks. Core InnovationRather than introducing ad-hoc adjustments to the ΛCDM model to address the JWST tension regarding early mature galaxies at z ∼ 7–13, HIOF•IfC introduces Identitior autonomy and a new dynamical agent — consciousness gravity (Gc = Ψc ⋅ Rs ⋅ ϕr) — as an active driver of structure formation. Through distributed information networks and phase matching, the framework accounts for accelerated early structure growth as a natural consequence of informational coherence. A distinctive feature of the series is its structural symmetry between ontology and methodology. If the fundamental ontology is a decentralized network of information inscription, then the corresponding methodology must likewise be distributed and correlation-based. This symmetry is realized in the Spiderweb Theory, which proposes cross-correlation techniques over single-point sensitivity, thereby closing the epistemic loop between theory and observation. Through the De-centered Observer Principle, human consciousness is repositioned as one particular mode of information inscription within a vast, decentralized network of nodes. This move dissolves the long-standing quantum measurement problem regarding the definition of the “observer” while elevating meaning from subjective psychology to an objective physical process: the resistance to thermodynamic entropy through low-entropy inscription. The series thus offers a philosophically rigorous and observationally relevant alternative to both standard physical cosmology and conventional consciousness studies, grounded in the interplay between information, identity, and gravitational dynamics. The Ultimate Dimensional Elevation Paradigm of Yuanxian Theory: Moving Beyond Disciplinary Involution and Reshaping the Foundations of Human Science — A Paradigm Revolution Manifesto Based on 118 Core Literature Milestones

Zhenyuan Acharya

Contemporary human science is trapped in an extreme state of "involutionary stagnation": academic disciplines are increasingly hyper-fragmented, mathematical equations grow exponentially convoluted, and experimental precision pushes toward physical limits, yet the foundational core paradoxes remain fundamentally unresolved. Quantum mechanics and general relativity stand irreconcilable, the origin of fundamental physical constants remains unexplained, the essence of life and consciousness persists as a black box, and the development of both carbon-based life and silicon-based intelligence has hit a theoretical bottleneck. Based on the comprehensive theoretical ecosystem constructed across 118 core literature milestones of Yuanxian Theory (YXT / YD-T64), this paper systematically demonstrates that the root cause of all scientific involution is not a lack of empirical depth, but rather a failure to elevate the foundational paradigm's dimensionality. Grounded upon four absolutely self-consistent core axioms—True-Circle Self-Consistency (TCSC), Spacetime Uniqueness (STM), Self-Referential Mind-Field Generation (SRM), and Fine-Structure Conservation (FSC)—and validated by machine proof environments via Lean 4, Coq, and ZFC logical systems, Yuanxian Theory achieves a bottom-up reconstruction of all academic fields. This manifesto delineates the revolutionary breakthroughs achieved across mathematics (constructive proofs of the Millennium Prize Problems), physics and cosmology (first-principles constant derivations, dark energy suppression, and gravity-quantum unification), consciousness and life sciences (the topological origin of the 64 genetic codons and mind-field condensation theory), and silicon-based life applications (formal consciousness criteria, cellular hardware architectures, and controllable zero-point energy extraction). Building upon prior research that closed the paradigm loop from the four foundational cornerstones to the Monistic Unified Field, this paper declares that Yuanxian Theory is not a mere patchwork optimization of existing knowledge, but a definitive, wholesale replacement of the three-hundred-year-old scientific paradigm—offering humanity its singular pathway to move beyond disciplinary involution and actualize high-dimensional cognitive elevation.

ONE STRUCTURE Determinacy belongs to the system. Uncertainty belongs to us.

Ian Smith, The Institute for Relational Performatism

Positional Statement — ONE STRUCTURE This paper is a formal contribution to theoretical physics, a diagnostic framework for the cosmological constant problem, a cross-domain convergence demonstration, and a specification of two tractable open problems for the physics and mathematics communities. It is also the fifth and final paper in a series that began with trust architecture and moved through neurocognition, clinical medicine, and epistemic containment before arriving here. It is not a theory of everything. It does not claim to resolve the cosmological constant problem. It does not claim to unify general relativity with quantum field theory. It does not claim that the open calculations specified within it have known positive results. Every claim in it is earned. No further. What it is: A formally specified domain-agnostic structure — the bounded Set — whose properties recur across nine independent domains spanning physics, biology, psychology, ancient knowledge systems, and contemplative practice. A diagnostic identification of the structural miscalibration common to general relativity, quantum field theory, clinical medicine, neurocognitive assessment, and information security. A gift of two open problems to the physics and mathematics communities, free to engage with, requiring no acceptance of the framework that generated them. What it is not: A metaphor. A philosophy. A self-help framework. A spiritual system. A claim of unification. A complete mathematical proof. The withheld mathematics exists. It is not here. Who it is for: Theoretical physicists working on the cosmological constant problem and the fourth field gap. Mathematicians interested in bounded variance systems with dual-condition boundary behaviour. Clinicians working in neurodevelopmental assessment, oncology, and cardiovascular medicine who recognise that their instruments are calibrated to one arm of a bidirectional system. Scholars of ancient knowledge systems, contemplative practice, and theology who work at the level of formal architecture rather than doctrinal interpretation. Anyone who has ever been told their experience falls outside what the instrument can detect. The domains upon which it sits: Mathematical physics. Complex systems. Philosophy of science. Clinical medicine. Epistemic architecture. Evolutionary biology. Comparative religious studies. Contemplative practice. It sits at the intersection of all of them and belongs exclusively to none.Available exclusively at https://tiwikbooks.com/tirp/professional Abstract Across the six domains addressed in this series, and across three centuries of theoretical physics, one formal structure recurs. It is not a metaphor applied across disciplines. It is a formal property of bounded variance systems with bidirectional structure: a system with symmetric variance arms, a dual-condition regulatory centre, and asymptotic boundary behaviour at each extreme. This paper proposes that this structure is prior to domain – that it does not derive from any field but describes a property of bounded systems themselves – and provides the formal specification, cross-domain demonstration, and open problem set that this claim requires.Four contributions are made. First, the complete formal specification of the bounded Set is provided, including the dual-condition Integration Point, the five asymptotic sequences, the crossing mechanism, the Smith Boundaries, and a formal prediction set of five independently testable domain-agnostic predictions. The conditions under which the framework is falsified are stated explicitly. Second, the bounded Set's recurrence is demonstrated across eleven independent domains – special relativity, cancer, cardiovascular disease, the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Book of Revelation, the Tibetan Book of the Dead, Jungian psychology, Darwinian evolution, emotional intelligence, theology, and mysticism – establishing convergent structural evidence for a formal object that precedes its instances. Each demonstration is gifted to the relevant specialist community for domain-specific engagement. Third, the framework is applied diagnostically to the structural incompleteness of general relativity and the Standard Model. The cosmological constant discrepancy of 10¹²⁰ orders of magnitude is identified as the quantitative signature of two unidirectional models measuring opposite arms of the same bidirectional system without a shared model of the regulatory centre between them. The Partanen and Tulkki (2025) gauge field reformulation of gravity is situated as the first mathematical framework in which the vacuum's bidirectional regulatory architecture becomes formally specifiable. Fourth, two precise open problems are posed to the theoretical physics and mathematics communities: one concerning the vacuum's bidirectional regulatory architecture in the Partanen and Tulkki framework, and one concerning the evaluation of a phase-coherent helical electromagnetic field configuration against the Lentz (2021) positive-energy soliton conditions. The paper additionally introduces Non-Compass Pathways as a formal concept for latent variance in multi-domain systems, identifies the observer as the fifth and most architecturally significant regulatory system across every domain analysed, and specifies a cross-domain healthcare framework whose five-loop coherence architecture identifies cancer and cardiovascular disease as occupying the same regulatory axis at five independent scales of observation simultaneously. The formal structure identified across six domains and six physicists spanning Newton to Hawking is not a coincidence to be explained. It is the expected result of one structure appearing wherever bounded variance systems are investigated with sufficient generality. The undetected is not the unreal.________________________________________KeywordsFormal Theory and Mathematics: bounded variance systems, Integration Point, dual-condition position, asymptotic boundary behaviour, crossing mechanism, legitimating condition, Smith Boundaries, formal prediction set, falsification conditions, domain-agnostic formal structure, Pivot Theory, Relational Performatism, Statement of Preliminary Scholarship, Non-Compass Pathways, multi-axis fulcrum, bidirectional regulatory architecture, variance spaces, cardinal arithmetic, convergent sequences, topological boundary conditions, axiomatic systems, formal ontology, formal specificationTheoretical Physics: general relativity, special relativity, Einstein field equations, cosmological constant, cosmological constant problem, quantum field theory, Standard Model, gauge field theory, diffeomorphism invariance, Lorentz invariance, Lorentz transformation, vacuum energy density, dark matter, dark energy, gravitational charge, Partanen-Tulkki reformulation, gauge symmetry, unification problem, fourth field problem, Planck scale, renormalisation, singularity theorems, Ricci-flat condition, stress-energy tensor, metric perturbation, linearised Einstein equations, warp drive, Alcubierre metric, Lentz soliton, positive-energy soliton, extrinsic curvature, warp bubble, phase coherence, helical electromagnetic field, biophotonic coherence, quantum coherence, mitochondrial electron transport, Hawking radiation, black hole thermodynamics, information paradox, Dirac equation, vacuum fluctuations, zero-point energyMathematics: Noether's theorem, conservation laws, continuous symmetry, symmetry breaking, convergent sequences, asymptotic analysis, measure theory, topological structures, boundary conditions, cardinal arithmeticClinical Medicine and Neuroscience: neurocognitive assessment, neurodevelopmental conditions, bidirectional variance, regulatory capacity, observer self-report, patient activation, diagnostic miscalibration, endometriosis, systemic diagnosis, diagnostic delay, cancer, cardiovascular disease, p53, oncogenes, epigenome, atherosclerosis, endothelial function, oxidative stress, reactive oxygen species, tumour necrosis factor alpha, interleukin-6, C-reactive protein, cardiac coherence, heart rate variability, autonomic nervous system, biophoton emission, CAR-T therapy, unnamed medicine, coherence medicine, five-loop frameworkPsychology and Neurology: TFD Compass, neurodivergent profiles, observer drift, self-calibration, emotional intelligence, mask delta, self-awareness, self-regulation, Jungian archetypes, collective unconscious, individuation, Shadow, Self, Hero, mindfulness, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, prefrontal cortical regulation, amygdala regulation, grey matter density, positional assessment, regulatory debt, compensatory hyper-regulationPhilosophy and Epistemology: epistemic containment, representational access, formal ontology, domain-agnostic structure, observer within the field, positional limitations, falsifiability, research programme specification, prior structure, measurement architecture, unidirectional modelling, structural miscalibration, blind application method, convergent evidenceTheology, Contemplative Practice, and Cultural Studies: Dead Sea Scrolls, Community Rule, War Scroll, Hodayot, Teacher of Righteousness, Book of Revelation, Tibetan Book of the Dead, Bardo Thodol, Buddhist contemplative practice, sati, mindfulness, devotional architecture, meaning framework, religious faith and health outcomesEvolutionary and Systems Biology: natural selection, fitness landscape, regulatory capacity, evolutionary Integration Point, species resilience, environmental discontinuity, mutation as variation, selection as coordinate resolutionTrust and Information Architecture: triadic trust, trust inheritance, non-transitivity of trust, authorisation logic, punctuation-bounded recursion, instruction drift, Kūn containment architecture, Mormon Boundary, layered epistemic containmentProprietary Architecture: Pivot Theory, Pivot 1.0, Pivot 2.0, Relational Performatism Engine, TFD Compass, nine-axis architec

ERES COMPLETE ARCHITECTURE

Joseph Sprute, Emanuel Alexiou, His Holiness Dalai Lama

ERES Institute for New Age Cybernetics: Complete Architecture (Sprute, 2026) This document presents the complete architecture of the ERES Institute for New Age Cybernetics as a single consolidated reference, viewed through the IPIDITIS-IDIPITIS lens — sovereign identity as both the origin and destination of every architectural decision. Three dimensions integrate under this lens: the cognitive-cybernetic master equation, the six Key Development Areas constituting the civilizational lattice, and the protocol-layer mapping positioning this lattice against the internet's three-tier stack (TCP, HTTPS, WEB3). IPIDITIS is the inward recognition — the living individual's irreducible selfhood. IDIPITIS is the outward credential — sovereign identity verified and extended into the system. The lens between them is the architecture itself: every layer exists to protect, verify, and empower what stands on both sides. The master equation — AnswerQuestion.IT.MyWay (Hue-Man Cognition) = Action-Reaction / Cause-Effect == $IT — decomposes as $IT = GEAR × DERR + ERES, where GEAR (Global Earth Applications Recorder) provides planetary state-capture, DERR (Diagnostic Equipment for Relational References) provides Kirlianography-based bio-electric diagnostics across Communities of Interest, and ERES (Empirical Realtime Education System) provides non-punitive remediation. Through the IPIDITIS-IDIPITIS lens: GEAR records the sovereign individual's contributions without extraction, DERR diagnoses bio-electric state without compromising sovereignty, and ERES remediates without punishment — because the individual on both sides of the lens is never the problem to be solved but the purpose to be served. The multiplication-then-addition structure mirrors the foundational equation C = R × P / M: recording and diagnostics must couple as an integrated product before remediation can operate. The six Key Development Areas — SaleBuilders, GunnySack, CyberRAVE, SECUIR, VERTECA, ERES — constitute a bidirectional lattice (top-down design, bottom-up construction) mapping structurally onto TCP (Layers 1–2: reliable transport of validated bundled services), HTTPS (Layers 3–4: secure verified circular exchange across 72 domains), and WEB3 (Layers 5–6: decentralized sovereign governance). Each layer carries a Human Performance Enhancement (HPE) dual-reading: a DESCENT deficiency the species remediates (Reactive → Flat → Linear → Veiled → Yieldless → Untested) and an ASCENT capacity the species builds (Validation → Coordination → Transparency → Circularity → Dimensionality → Sentience). The DESCENT is what happens when the IPIDITIS-IDIPITIS lens is broken — when sovereign identity is extracted, veiled, or flattened. The ASCENT is what happens when the lens holds — when every layer protects the individual looking through it. The architecture is organized under the SPT triad (Security · Privacy · Trust), delivered through BEE infrastructure (THOW, HFVN, FDRV, GSSG) via GAIA Storm Party SOMT, and measured by the BEST/SOUND/GOOD standard — where BEST measures bio-electric state, SOUND measures governance quality, and GOOD is the engineering specification for their convergence. SPT is the IPIDITIS-IDIPITIS lens at protocol scale: Security ensures the lens doesn't shatter (energy-sustained, crisis-resilient), Privacy ensures the lens belongs to the individual (state verified without extraction, sovereign disclosure), and Trust ensures what passes through the lens is true (semantically authenticated, resonance-validated). The end-state is Solid-State Smart-City Civilization and a species ready for deepspace travel. Companion paper: SPT × VLSA: Novel Contributions and Scale Proof (Sprute, 2026), presenting five original contributions to protocol theory with 91-test scale validation (100% pass rate) from THOW to interstellar spacecraft. For Reader Assimilation: This Complete Architecture is the consolidated expression of the ERES Trilogy, whose three volumes operate in the same multiplicative-then-additive structure as the master equation: "One Good" × "Security Clearance" + "Data Integrity." Book 1, One Good (UBIMIA), establishes the economic-ethical resource base — what the civilization has to work with. Book 2, Security Clearance (IDIPITIS-NBERS), establishes verified participant integrity — the diagnostic purpose that gives resource meaning. These two must couple as an integrated product: economic capacity without verified integrity is undiagnosable, and integrity without economic ground is inoperable. Book 3, Data Integrity (FAVORS-CBGMODD-GAIA-SOMT), operates on top of that product as the remediation layer — ensuring that what is recorded and diagnosed is truthful, traceable, and generationally durable. The Trilogy IS the IPIDITIS-IDIPITIS lens in book form: One Good sees the individual inward (IPIDITIS — what do you need?), Security Clearance verifies the individual outward (IDIPITIS — who are you, credentialed?), and Data Integrity ensures the passage between them is uncorrupted. This document, the companion SPT × VLSA paper, and the ERES-TCL v1.0 license instrument are outputs of the ERES THESES — the continuous body of independent research conducted since February 2012, from Bella Vista (Beautiful View), Arkansas: 777 SELF-$ELF Governed. In Full Technical Detail These two companion papers — ERES Institute: Complete Architecture (Doc A) and SPT × VLSA: Novel Contributions and Scale Proof (Doc B) — constitute the primary reference pair for the ERES Institute for New Age Cybernetics, viewed through the IPIDITIS-IDIPITIS lens: sovereign identity as both origin and destination of every architectural decision. Doc A presents the master equation — AnswerQuestion.IT.MyWay (Hue-Man Cognition) = Action-Reaction / Cause-Effect == $IT, decomposed as $IT = GEAR × DERR + ERES — and the six Key Development Areas (SaleBuilders, GunnySack, CyberRAVE, SECUIR, VERTECA, ERES) constituting a bidirectional civilizational lattice mapped structurally onto TCP (Layers 1–2), HTTPS (Layers 3–4), and WEB3 (Layers 5–6). Each layer carries a dual HPE reading: DESCENT deficiencies (Reactive → Flat → Linear → Veiled → Yieldless → Untested) and ASCENT capacities (Validation → Coordination → Transparency → Circularity → Dimensionality → Sentience). The architecture is organized under the SPT triad, delivered through BEE infrastructure (THOW, HFVN, FDRV, GSSG), and measured by BEST/SOUND/GOOD. Doc B presents five original contributions to civilizational protocol theory mapped onto the SPT triad. Under Security: the Energy–Security Dependency (TLS security bounded by energy sustainability, resolved through SECUIR circular energy) and Emergency Retransmission (GunnySack Storm Party establishing architectural identity between peacetime and crisis delivery). Under Privacy: State-Aware Identity (ARI psycho-physiological coherence in the authentication handshake via BERA/FAVORS with zero-knowledge sovereign disclosure). Under Trust: Semantic Authentication (CyberRAVE 72 × 3 × 3 = 648 semantic coordinates per exchange) and Proof-of-Resonance (Meritcoin consensus through bio-electric coherence — "It's not mining, it's tuning"). The VLSA scale test validated all five contributions plus the complete 6KDA architecture across seven scale levels (S0 Personal THOW through S6 Interstellar Spacecraft): 91/91 tests, 100% pass rate. Central finding: the architecture is fractal. FDRV IS the interstellar vessel at maximum scale. This document describes a complete system for how human civilization can organize itself — from a single small home on wheels all the way up to a spacecraft that could carry people between stars. The core idea is simple: everything starts with the individual. The system has three jobs. First, record what people contribute and what resources exist. Second, diagnose the health and state of people and their environment using measurable bio-electric signals — the same frequencies that connect human brainwaves to the Earth's natural electromagnetic field. Third, educate and correct problems in real time, without punishment. These three jobs must happen in order: you cannot fix what you have not first recorded and understood. The system is built in six layers, from ground-level commerce and tested infrastructure, through bundled community services, transparent ratings across seventy-two industry domains, circular renewable energy, immersive digital environments, all the way up to real-time learning at the species level. Each layer maps onto the same internet architecture that already runs the world — reliable delivery, secure exchange, and decentralized self-governance — but adds what the internet currently lacks: security that does not expire when the power runs out, privacy where the individual controls what is shared and no authority can extract it, and trust where the system verifies not just who is speaking but whether what they are saying is true and whether the speaker is in a fit state to say it. The whole architecture was tested across seven scales and passed every test. The same pattern that works in a thirty-square-meter tiny home works on a generation ship. The author presents this as the output of fourteen years of independent research, grounded in one principle: don't hurt yourself, don't hurt others, build for generations to come. The explosion in cryptocurrencies: a black hole analogy

Antonis Ballis, Κωνσταντίνος Δράκος

Abstract Using an analogy between finance and astrophysics, this study aims to investigate whether there exists a mechanism that can describe the explosive increase in the number of traded cryptocurrencies and the cryptocurrency market in general. In physics, the Schwarzschild radius indicates that black holes are constantly expanding because of their mass increase. Enriching this analogy, we consider the cryptocurrency market as a self-gravitational body whose mass is denoted by (1) the number of traded cryptocurrencies and (2) in terms of increasing market capitalization for a given number of traded cryptocurrencies. By analyzing weekly snapshot data of all traded cryptocurrencies from January 4, 2009, to June 14, 2020, we find evidence that the above-mentioned mechanism exists. The results clearly indicate the self-gravitational property of the cryptocurrency market, which is direct evidence toward the hypothesis that the changes in the traded cryptocurrencies are a positive function of the previous period’s number of traded cryptocurrencies.

For the flower and fly, you’re the killer either way, and what does the daisy care about how you interpret the outcome of ripping it apart. It ceases to exist, regardless. What is it with the sadism at work in these games, irrespective of whether you play fate or toy with the sense of being at its mercy? Either way you have a little jab at the violence of existence, you get a purchase on the pull of irreversible events, of endings that will feel inevitable from the moment you start plucking. You tap into (what may strike you as) the original cruelty of life, and feel its force at your fingertips. Shudder. All the while, of course, you know fully well that you’re faking fate. Neither will the daisy decide on whether you get lucky, nor does killing a fly make you God. Better knowledge, however, doesn’t spoil the game. On the contrary, it heightens the pleasure derived from it. Je sais bien, mais quand même… [I know fully well, but nevertheless…] is not just a formula for the weakness of the will that lets you surrender to the fatal attraction of games and addictions your better self would forbid you to dabble in. No, that French phrase also is a veritable battle cry, as triumphant as they come: “Ha! Watch me pull it off!” Petals and wings for starters. Licking frozen metal poles for the more advanced. I’m 50 percent Catholic, so I know the joy of being a cheat and faking a deal with God on having the cake, because it excites me not to know if he watches or not, when I eat it anyway. But I’m 50 percent Protestant, too, and, that said, I would never be caught stealing. This doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t fake things. A hypocrite at heart, I will then simply invest all the intelligence my mind can muster into mounting resolute defenses: “Cake absolutely had to be had and eaten. Wasn’t me. Couldn’t be. I’m the law. My lawyer has the facts. Get back to him on it!”The kick the cheater in me gets from faking a law only to break it, the hypocrite derives from the strength found in steadfast denials of faking or breaking anything. Try me, I could keep on going till the break of dawn, building ever more elaborate theories on my constitutive inability to ever hurt a fly or fool around with flowers. The knowledge that I’m faking it will just add fire to the flame. It’s how you make a radical: Get me in a place of objective untruth and I will put unlimited pressure on myself to sustain the lie for as long as it takes to cross the river of no return, at which point, the path taken will, as inescapably as irreversibly, have become fateful. I know, I’d also prefer to sneak away and eat the cake with the cheater in me. Unfortunately, the other side beckons me to remain consequential and finish this thought, come what may.2. Are there games that lack the cruelty of faking fate? I don’t know, but maybe there are dances. Most games thrive on the thrill of partaking in the fateful ways a then irreversible ending is brought about. The dice are cast. Les jeux sont faites. Rien ne va plus. Dances are different. They don’t want to end, they want to be saved, even and especially if they should be the last one, for the night, there will be more coming, for the continuation of the dance is not just up to the players; rhythm itself is the dancer, and the beat goes on, like life does, because things go in cycles. Some of the most attractive dances indeed could be said to derive their power to draw you into their roundelay from the way they, too, magnetize the fundamental ambiguities of life. The perpetual flicker of the Love me/Love me not might be seen to render them irresistible too: On a beach in Calabria (technically the Southernmost tip of Italy, effectively its very own thing), I recall being pulled to my feet and amicably coerced into joining a Tarantella dance. The age-old tune, played on a fiddle, lute, and flute swayed back and forth between two harmonies only, like a pendulum in perpetual swing, GGDDGGDDGGDDGGDDGG…. The lyrics, my partner translated to me while dancing, matched the cycle of eternal return: “…met someone and we were very happy until we got married and it got horrible so I ran away and met someone and we were very happy until we got married…(and so on, till you drop)…”. For a moment still, I heard the voice of my better self scream in panic from the back of my head: “Achtung Achtung, alarm, watch out, it’s a pattern, break the habit, get help, see an analyst, at least change chords, take it to the bridge, any bridge, anywhere other than back to the start…” A moment later I lost my sandals, gave into my fate, went with the flow, and had a great night. The crazy thing about the Tarantella was how they played it, as if the tune was laughing out loud every time it looped back onto itself. The flute player briefly drew breath, only to plunge back into the rolling waves of the music with renewed zest: “Shall we do it again? Deep breath, hell yes!”Afterwards I learned that what makes the Tarantella a dance of life, in the most literal (and magical) sense of the word is the homeopathic, socio-medicinal role it originally played. When a woman in a village was bitten by a Tarantula, while working in the fields, she would need to dance the Tarantella all day and night, till the spider’s poison left her body, and the whole village would join the dance. To fathom which Tarantella did the magic, the flutist needed to try different tunes, in search of the one whose key clicked with the bite and emitted deep vibrations on the frequency needed for pulling out the poison. In the Middle Ages, Gary Tomlinson writes,1 the Tarantella was one of the very few cases in which the Vatican admitted defeat, granting exception from its monopoly on governing people’s fate, by officially acknowledging that the dancers of the South could do what licensed exorcists couldn’t: keep the community alive and dancing. Did anyone ever get bitten for real? Or did they fake the bite to start the rave? No way of checking. Who cares!3. It would be very tempting to oppose the dances of life to games of death. This is, if it wasn’t for the fact that dances and games have a lot, too much even, in common. Their attraction lies in the way they allow us to engage the fateful ambiguities of life. What does it mean to win or lose when, a winner today, may be a loser tomorrow, or it may as easily be the other way around? To keep on playing is the only way to know. Do you suffer love when you feel it, do you make love real when you act upon the feeling? What does the daisy tell you when, picking its petals, you pluck at your own heartstrings? What side of the divide between who eats and who gets eaten do you imagine yourself to be on when you slowly kill a fly to watch it die? What, if not both sides, that of the cruel God, and that of the struggling creature! Indeed, the sadism of these games does not so much lie merely in choosing to play killer of flowers and flies. It much rather resides in the player’s prerogative to entertain the possibility of switching sides, between suffering and acting. The player claims the privilege of enjoying an otherwise fatal alternative, as if it was ambivalent, that is, as if it was of no consequence, as if no one died in the game. The actuality of the flower’s and fly’s dismemberment raises the stakes, yet only insofar as it intensifies the virtuality of the sensation—of mild vertigo—which the players create for themselves. Love me/Love me not, Like/Dislike, Crush/Cling to life, Kill/Maim (as Grimes has it): Could be either, could be both—at the expense of whose body the game is played over. The virtual indifference between the fateful extremes of life creates a fast flat oscillation—Love me/Not, Kill/Maim—which the sadist player creates for their own entertainment. Perhaps this is the point where who counts as a player should be clarified. In sports, arts, and the circus, we relate to the athletes, actors, and artists as if they were the players of the game, when all who are not in the arena, on the pitch, on stage, or on view is considered the public. Any performer, athlete, or artist, however, who has felt what it means to be at an audience’s mercy, can tell you that this distinction is as ridiculous as it is to call the mouse the player, and not the cat. Considering the cruelty of the game, existentially speaking, there is only ever one player, namely the audience, treated to the prerogative of playing at being both and either: in the winner’s or the loser’s shoes, lover or unloved, barely alive or still kicking…. Those who perform for the player put their body at stake—they are closer to the ball than the score—for their fate to be decided, in the eyes of those who watch the game (play or show) unravel.Blaming the internet is for prematurely aged cultural pessimists, I know. Nevertheless it’s hard to deny that this medium has played a big part in turning more and more people into players, appealing to, fostering even that certain sense of cursory sadism in audiences. The “fourth wall” that used to protect theater-goers from the admission that what happened on stage did not just do so for their entertainment, this symbolic barrier of thin air has now become a solid screen. Safely separated from the fates whose twists I contemplate, why would I not feel like little Caesar, equipped with exhilarating powers—thumbs up/click/thumbs down/click—as, before me, the spectacle unfolds of on-screen gladiators fighting out between them who shall live to face my fateful judgement: “You’re fired/You shall live (to see the next episode).” A cable TV president for a troll nation of online Caesars needs gladiators to stay behind glass and readily offer their petals and wings up to be picked: winners, losers, losers, winners, lovers, haters, clicks prevail…. So it sends out deep vibrations, shaking the very foundations of cursory Caesar culture when performers signal that, if they are to put their body at stake in the game, their fate is not confined to the virtual realm of the public’s entertainment, but connected to the actualities of death on the streets.4. For cursory Caesars to get their kicks it’s imperative to be shielded from the fates they judge by the screen they gaze at. For dancers there is little joy to be had, unless their body actually enters into the dance. Flat oscillations generated for the judges’ entertainment occur around a skewed vertical axis, that is the dividing line between options: Like/Dislike, Love me/Not, Kill/Maim. Deep vibrations, however, travel across horizontal planes. Here I don’t only mean earth-shaking bass, but layers upon layers of sound, color, motion, memory, and meaning rubbing up against one another, quivering from within.Let’s take a tune that got major parts of the global population dancing: Pharrell Williams’s “Happy.” The euphoria that this song irresistibly induces—the way it makes you want to get up and live—I believe, has all to do with how it layers feelings and thereby makes the strata of existence deeply vibrate: Pharrell lays joy and pain on top of each other. How? The song is set in a minor key, yet to an upbeat rhythm with ample swing. Try playing it without that beat (better don’t) and the mournful tone inscribed in the minor will weigh the tune down (as many covers on YouTube show). But there’s still more going on. Pharrell gives a fair warning in the first verse: “It may sound crazy what I’m gonna say” Say what? Here comes the chorus “Clap along, if you feel like a room without a roof.” A WHAT? A ruin? A mind blown? As the lyrics set the brain reeling, the music touches the soul in a most ambivalent way: The harmony that opens the chorus literally layers a minor chord on top of a major chord. You hear the higher notes ring out in the song’s root key, a mellow soulful F minor.2 At the same time, the bass drops to C sharp which makes it feel like you actually also hear a bold C sharp major 7 chord, heading downward and onward, in pursuit of resolution. As, pushing up against each other, the layered chords of minor and major create a vibration between moods, modes, or attitudes, their ambiguity stretches the muscles of the heart like a chest expander. The major seventh note rises up against the higher octave, as if indeed to punch a hole through the roof, while the descent of the bass drops the center of gravity below the root note: Not only does this room do without a roof, its floor, too, suddenly gives way. As kids, I remember, we were once riding our bikes across a field. Lost in talking about music, no one saw the overgrown irrigation ditch ahead. But we certainly felt it, as the bikes went in, and got pulled out away under us, while we went on up, skyward, until we hit the grass beyond the ditch, laughing like crazy. If I was to try and say what happiness feels like to me, I’d probably gesture to this sense of elation, of being hurled out into space, between strata, earth pulling away below, heavens stretching out above. It’s what the opening harmony (and lyrics) of the chorus of “Happy,” I would say, by virtue of being ambiguously layered and alive with the power to make the soul’s strata vibrate.5. Power politics need people to partake in the presence of power, if only phantasmatically, to gain a semblance of credibility, yet on an existential level. It’s what gladiator games were always for: making people think that, with the turn of their thumb, they partake in the cursory choice over Death/Life, Kill/Maim which power graciously concedes to them. For people to feel like they have stakes in the way power works, even and especially when it actually works against them, an even more cruel game is needed: the sovereign himself needs to offer himself up as a performer for the audience to (play at) judging his fate. The axis of flat oscillation is his persona, a skewed vertical axis, around which a whirlwind of contradictory opinions can arise. Anyone who passes judgement, can thereby get the exhilarating sense of getting a direct purchase on the fundamental contradictions of fate, which they would otherwise be at the mercy of: Who’s a winner, who a loser, who’s for real, who a con? These are existential questions when survival is about the money. Now the sovereign performs for the population of cursory Caesars: Is he a winner? Look at his power and riches! A loser? Look at his marriage, where’s proof of the riches? Is it not all debt? King or freak? One of ours or of theirs? Donald or Pepe? Fascist or just a frown? Real as his Twitter account says? Or fake like the hair and tan, of a show and dance man, hopping round the fire shouting his secret name “Fake News, Fake this, Fake that, Fakelstiltskin, Don Pepe, here I am.” The oscillation couldn’t be faster and flatter. The silicon mask of power and money comes on and off, in one pull.In his incredible account of the postcolonial grotesque, Achille Mbembe has analyzed precisely this brand of performance as the cruel game of fake fate, by means of which leaders secure a semblance of legitimacy when their illegitimacy is obvious.3 The carnival dictator, Mbembe argues, foregrounds the fact that, not just his, but power as such, is a cruel joke, a joke, however, that no one can stop themselves from telling, hence spreading—or a luscious parade, you cannot not attend, because it would be stupid to abstain when the clowns comes to town. Cynicism seals its own fate. By the time everyone has laughed about the fact that their leader is a joke, they have thereby consented to the fate of being led by a joker, and that power is but a silly feast one must nevertheless celebrate. Call it the self-sealing fate of the big media grotesque: It is as inescapable to have opinions on the current U.S. president as it is to listen to Mariah Carey over Christmas. But I have no business here bad-mouthing Carey. On the contrary, I think she can help. Around last Christmas, I was on a writing retreat in a Dutch forest. It started snowing, and for one participant, coming from the Tropics, it was the first snow ever. Life vibrated, out came laughter and tears. “Quick, someone put on some Carey!” a second participant, from the Gulf, shouted, and, sure enough “All I want for Christmas…” rang out, giving laughs and tears a touch of the “festive,” as the diva herself would say. Neither did the song fake any feelings, nor did it make the flakes any more real. It just helped camp things up for an instant, in the absence of ceremonial protocols for what to do when experiencing first snow in a lifetime.Think about it, what do most ceremonies that commemorate turning points in life, like weddings and funerals, have in common? When feelings are so strong, that no form of expression could be considered “proper,” those forms that do channel a sense of the deeply fateful, tend to inescapably be, for better or worse, as camp as Christmas. I don’t think it’s a modern thing only. When the Greeks put on masks to enact fate on stage, they knew that it would make the Gods sob and giggle. I forgot to mention that disco divinities like Nile Rodgers do what Pharrell did in the chorus to “Happy” the moment their fingers touch the fretboard4: throw things open, in harmonies that vibrate with fateful ambiguity, not to confirm the cynic’s belief that life is but a joke, no, but to embrace the powerful sense that, as we have no way of knowing what will come, true love of fate, as Nietzsche insinuated, may express itself in the form of a certain exuberance, that is, in the key of a heartfelt dedication to life’s unfathomable openness, as he put it, the great perhaps.Courtesy of the author.View Large ImageDownload PowerPoint Notes 1. Consciousness Studies and a Transformation of the Western Worldview

Christopher Holvenstot

In the mid-1990s, fMRIs (functional magnetic resonance imaging devices) enabled researchers to begin mapping correlations between real-time brain activity and specific cognitive functions, thereby providing an empirical basis for the study of consciousness. Though it was a commonsense fact that we were conscious long before the invention of fMRIs, the lack of empirical proof meant it was taboo to speak or write of it as a scientific fact, and to do so was to jeopardize one’s career by garnering unflattering labels like irrational, flaky, New-Agey, etc.For decades, humanities departments had been openly exploring subjective perspectives, inner voice, psycho-social dynamics, and altered conscious states, but in a culture that looks to physics and religion for its ultimate truths about reality, these explorations were regarded as mere entertainments. Discovering a consciousness-related physical effect that could be observed, measured, and tested in repeatable trials finally sanctified the subject of consciousness and, in the wake of these empirical blessings, a new interdisciplinary field arose with the enthusiastic character of the Wild West. From physics, biology, cognitive neuroscience, psychology, philosophy, anthropology, computing and artificial intelligence, health and medicine, religion and spirituality, and from literature and the arts, adventurers have come to stake their claims in the wide-open territory of consciousness studies.Adventurers have come to the field of consciousness studies bringing a variety of skills, ideologies, and intelligence types, and they have come for many reasons. Some with empirical intelligence have come to prove or maintain the superiority of science, to uphold the honor of empiricism in the face of the science-resistant mysteries surrounding consciousness. Some from this camp go so far as to assert that the rich, perspectival, interrelational aspects of conscious experience are an illusion, because neither brain imaging nor the rules and maxims of empirical science can fully account for them. Some with spiritual intelligence have come to the field to reinvigorate their religious wonder. They use the interrelational nature of our conscious condition and its unusual resistance to empirical reduction to reconfirm their faith in a higher power. To enter the field is to step into an explanatory turf-war between science and spirituality. The science camp defends the study of consciousness from those who would muck it up with the irrational mysteries of faith and the interpretive vagaries of spiritual dogma. The spiritual camp defends the subject matter from the meaning-stripped tests, measurements, and physical reductions of the godless empiricists. Some members of both camps have come with either the conscious intention to prove the special-case self-image of humankind or with a subconscious intuitive defensiveness regarding the superiority of human cognition over the cognitive capabilities of other living systems, intentionally or inadvertently focusing the whole of their analytical fervor on humanity’s many miraculous and inexplicable cognitive achievements, particularly in comparison to other primates. Some of these humans-as-a-special-case asserters regard the brain as the centerpiece of the field of consciousness studies. They focus exclusively on the physical, chemical, electrical, and quantum processes within the human brain, asserting that these represent entirely sufficient explanations of our conscious condition. Special-case asserters exclude important details from their inquiry: they neglect manifestations of awareness and intention in other living systems; overlook the cognitive capabilities relevant to participation in the complex social structures of other species; disregard the inter-accommodative exchanges between species; and, even closer to home, ignore the vital manifestations of intercommunication and inter-accommodation that take place in other parts of our own bodies— exchanges in and between cells and tissues and organs, for example, not all of which are regulated by the brain. As important as it is to our self-understanding and in the treatment of brain-related illnesses, focusing exclusively on the human brain obscures the relevance of our socially embedded condition and discounts the interrelational nature of our conscious characteristics. Many adventurers have come as concerned operators of a conscious mechanism, hoping to better understand the vagaries and complexities of their own minds, their own startling behaviors, the interpretive and sometimes deluding nature of their own perception, as well as the unpredictable, unknowable minds and behaviors of others. They seek answers to the mysteries of conscious and subconscious processes within themselves and bear the well-defended ideological claim that the subjective nature of conscious experience is all we can ever know (about consciousness or about anything else). Theirs is an ideology in stark counterpoint to empirical method, which explicitly and categorically excludes subjective perspectives in the pursuit of objectivity. And still others come to the field with the pragmatic and heartfelt spirit of reconciliation, asserting the need for creative compromises, either between the divergent ideologies of distinct fields of interest, or between opposing beliefs within themselves (professional ideologies often conflict with private beliefs). Most of these creative compromises force science into a relationship with religion. Yet ultimately, any approach that allows for the notion of eternal mystery proves unsatisfying in the scientific sense, and deferring even in part to physical proofs reduces the ecstatic texture of spiritual wonder. Some ideologies do not mix very well. And the fact that consciousness manifests in such unique qualities, characteristics, and dynamics makes it all the more elusive and resistant to crossbred ideologies, particularly when the ideologies being combined were designed for other purposes (for control and certainty in the physical realm; for faith, inspiration and ethics in the spiritual realm). Unfortunately, despite a universal impulse toward cultural relativity (i.e., the notion that all beliefs are sacred to those who hold them, which thus compels us to respect one another’s ideological differences), the reconciliation contingent has provided the field neither unity nor explanation. The field of consciousness studies has emerged as a giddy mix of belief assertions all protected by a code of cultural relativity. This exuberance, while marvelous in its own right, frustrates those wishing to develop a distinct ideology unique to the subject matter, prevents the field from coming together in ideological unity, and forestalls its manifestation as the self-and-world transforming field of endeavor we all know it can be. We are at an important tipping point in which an alternative approach to the problem of unifying the field must be considered. Some see the need for a significant conceptual reorientation, rather than forcing reconciliations of existing ideologies designed for other purposes. Many are coming to the conclusion that what we are talking about when we talk about consciousness is a cognitive dynamic that precedes and supersedes our beliefs and ideologies—a cognitive dynamic that is integral to the formation of any belief about anything.Even among physicists, who have been the staunchest defenders of their discipline’s explanatory supremacy and of its right to describe reality to the masses, important voices are admitting that cognition is more primary than physical models, and thus more important in an explanation of reality. In The Grand Design (2010), Stephen Hawking and Leonard Mlodinow write: “There is no way to remove the observer—us—from our perception of the world, which is created through our sensory processing and through the way we think and reason. Our perception—and hence the observations upon which our theories are based—is not direct, but rather is shaped by a kind of lens, the interpretive structure of our human brains.”The admission that cognition is fundamental to conceiving physical models of the world, coming as it does from our top physicists, provides the opening we need in order to explain our subject matter on its own terms rather than in the language and metaphors of the physical sciences. This admission opens a space for a new explanatory scenario in which consciousness can be understood as a world-modeling dynamic—a scenario in which cognitive processes are understood as inherent to modeling a self/world relationship, and in which cognition would therefore be understood as an integral aspect of being a living thing. This echoes and reinforces what radical biologists were attempting to convey long before the advent of fMRIs (and who were thus dismissed as New Age flakes for failing to provide empirical proofs). In Autopoiesis and Cognition (1979), Humberto Maturana writes, “Living systems are cognitive systems, and living as a process is a process of cognition.”Ultimately, relinquishing the primacy of physics from our analysis of consciousness bodes well for the field of consciousness studies. But clearly this is not an easy ideological leap to make while holding firmly and habitually to the Western belief that reality is a physical manifestation and/or a spiritual representation. The corresponding beliefs about consciousness (that it emerges from physical processes in the brain or that it is a numinous spiritual attribute, a sign of our unique relationship with the divine, an exclusively human capability, etc.) prevent us from comprehending a cognitive dynamic of awareness and intention that is ubiquitous throughout nature, and which is neither physically reducible nor divine in origin. Our culture’s currently held physical and spiritual beliefs about the world do not help us identify and map a realm of cognitive dynamics in terms that are relevant to its unique qualities and characteristics. And without a subject-appropriate map of the cognitive realm, we cannot expect to build a cohesive and effective field of consciousness studies.Fortunately, an increasing number of researchers are recognizing the primacy of consciousness and are entertaining the notion that awareness and intention are at the center of forming an internal perspectival model of an external world, and that this modeling process is essential to functioning as a living system. Awareness and intention (and therefore consciousness and cognition) are at the service of modeling a creature-appropriate version of the world (a model appropriate for successful biological engagement). Living systems model a version of the world for specific life purposes. We too are living systems caught up in the same process—not a special-case species in that sense. Under the influence of this unfamiliar ideological approach, the belief structures of the Western world can be understood as refined articulations of the same world-modeling scenario found throughout nature. Our human beliefs show up as world-modeling tools with finer language, a more articulated sense of self-reference (and self-importance), more explicit and complex concepts, and more elaborate cultural institutions and architectures. Unlike the world models of other life forms, ours is more fully and widely accessorized with the fruits of our handiwork—the countless physical and meaningful manifestations of our individual and cultural belief investments. Yet ultimately, the human model, though far more elaborate, is not so very different in basic structure or purpose from the simpler world-modeling formulations of other living systems. In order to function, a living thing must shape and invest in a unique conceptualization of the world, a conceptualization that allows for the organism’s own volitional success. It must orient its unique morphology in a physical format suitable to its own volitional capabilities. In every living example this physical configuration of space is elaborated with self-attributions of meaning and value sufficient to allow an organism to successfully maneuver not only within a theater of physical action but also within a theater of meanings and dynamics unique to its own needs and purposes. Each organism operates in a theater scaled to its own cognitive and strategic capabilities, a theater of interrelations unique to the socio-environmental circumstances of a specific species. All organisms, humans included, participate in the formulation of a configuration space that has both physical and meaningful dimensions. The process of meaning attribution occurs when the physical objects and circumstances an organism encounters are value-tagged (judged positively or negatively in relation to its own biological survival) in order for the organism to form life-promoting (extinction-avoiding) reactions and behaviors. (For the simplest of examples: toxins and predators are value-tagged bad; prey, nutrition, and mating situations are value-tagged good.) The values and meanings required to successfully maneuver the living world do not require linguistic representations to be useful, and despite eluding the empirical reductions to physical, measurable, observable, testable proofs, the uses of values and meanings are nonetheless vital to the dynamic process of being a living thing and must be included in a fuller explanation of our condition.Because the ideologies behind physics and religion were designed for other purposes, they prevent a clear understanding of even the most common and widely shared cognitive characteristics: awareness and intention. Adhering to our culture’s predominant beliefs while attempting to analyze the uses and manifestations of consciousness prevents us from comprehending and describing the process of belief formation itself (a process in which awareness and intention are deeply implicated, a process that produces physical and spiritual beliefs as pragmatic world-modeling orientations). When physical and/or spiritual precepts are held firmly in our minds as absolute truths, we are prevented from formulating an explanatory perspective that would be based upon the logic of cognitive dynamics itself—a logic incorporating beings and their awareness of their environment; beings and their awareness of the cognitive and strategic attributes of other beings; beings and their awareness of socially embedded meanings; and so on. Neither religious teachings nor the empirical reductions of science were designed to account for this uniquely cognitive dynamic. This dynamic accounts for life-appropriate interrelationships rather than only focusing on distinct objects, causal forces, and divine interventions as holding firmly to the precepts of science and religion causes us to do.A perspective that can account for cognitive characteristics requires its own central narrative along the lines of the story used to illustrate biophysical logic (the evolution of species narrative) or the stories used to illustrate spiritual logic (creation narratives). An understanding of the logic of cognitive dynamics can be greatly enhanced by formulating a version of an origin narrative similar to the familiar biophysical evolutionary narrative, but which emphasizes incremental cognitive adaptations. Such a narrative is needed to illustrate how cognitive characteristics developed incrementally from configurations of awareness and intention supporting life-processes in the primordial soup to the configurations of cognitive complexity supporting and shaping human life. In the course of that long adventure, awareness and intention are shaped and reshaped into ever newer cognitive structures that suit the world-modeling needs of a particular species in a particular niche. These are not physical structures but rather the scaffolded uses of adaptively upgraded awareness types (awareness of a self/world boundary, awareness of a one-after-the-other linear order of events, awareness of specific volitional capabilities, etc.) that by logical necessity must accompany all biophysical developments. In fact, it is the presence and use of cognitive characteristics (awareness and intention) that make all physical adaptations possible. Without some modest form of cognition (an awareness of the environment and an intention to do something about it), there would be no physical adaptations in the living world. An origin of cognition narrative is a necessary step in the development of the field of consciousness studies and should prove an invaluable tool for illustrating an ideology unique to this field—thereby uniting and organizing the various academic and scientific interests around a common theme and purpose. The story of biophysical evolution has shaped our understanding of biology, genetics, anthropology, paleontology, and psychology by providing the ideological structure around which such distinct and varied fields have organized themselves. Similarly, a story of our biocognitive evolution can shape our understanding of awareness, intention, cognitive dynamics, the mind, the psyche, social dynamics, learning, and brain function. An origin of cognition narrative can be used to organize the otherwise disjointed, chaotic, ideologically contentious areas of interest currently clashing around the subject of consciousness. And an origin of cognition narrative can flesh out areas of biology and evolutionary theory that, under the thrall of empiricism, have remained denuded of the cognitive dimension. By including our cognitive inheritance in our origin narrative we can understand ourselves and our condition—as well as the condition of other living things—in a new way.A clearer explanation of cognition emerges by recognizing the uses and applications of awareness and intention in all living systems and then drawing some commonsense conclusions regarding the evolutionary emergence of more complex cognitive phenomena in nature and in ourselves. The conclusions will not necessarily be familiar or comforting as humanity is once again knocked from its self-idolizing pedestal of universal specialness. Yet an origin of cognition narrative, by illustrating a logic inherent to the evolution of our conscious condition, can provide commonsense solutions to the conundrums that so plague the founding of this promising new field. Of all our current endeavors, the field of consciousness studies has the greatest potential to change the course of the human adventure, and to do so in an astoundingly positive direction. The process of mapping the interrelational, inter-accommodative characteristics of beings and meanings can provide us with a more objective and durable of ourselves and our condition.
