Enabling New Technologies for Demand Response Decentralized Validation Using Blockchain

This paper proposes a demand response framework for near-real time autonomous demand response management combined with a democratic market driven pricing scheme. The approach aims to aggregate groups of prosumers and develop new financial/business models for maximizing the prosumer's benefits in terms of: renewable energy usage maximization, cost minimization, etc. The framework will feature a blockchain based near-real time closed-loop semand response validation, fully autonomous, secured and decentralized. This will enact each prosumer with the possibility to verify the authenticity and integrity of all DR events and bid notifications.

Potential Impact of Blockchain Solutions on Energy Markets

Blockchain-based software solutions have been proposed and analyzed for several applications in the field of energy markets. They are often expected to cause “disruptive” changes to the energy industry, implicating they might totally replace current market structures and render today's energy system obsolete. In order to evaluate the actual potential, several specific use cases from different fields are examined here. The potential impact is estimated based on the market value of the respective market segment, which allows assessing the prospective effect. The analyses show that some use cases do have potential to improve current processes and thus, to change the market setting, but these changes are expected to be relatively small. Therefore, blockchain technology is not expected to be disruptive regarding the energy industry, but to complement the structures and processes which are already in place.

There are changes that occur in our education which impact on regional competitive build towards a global competitive, both in the formal institutions of national and Islamic institutions. So this raises complex issues that wraps acceleration of development in promoting an Islamic educational institutions in rural areas. These problems include institutional, leadership, finance, personnel, curriculum and educational model. Each of these components can inhibit the saving potential and within certain limits can threaten the existence, sustainability, competitiveness, and progress of Islamic educational institutions. The question of research: how is each of these institutions are trying to attract views of rural communities by providing an alternative strategy such as the advantages and characteristics of the institution in the decentralization and globalization?. This research resulted in four alternative bid that is modeling the Islamic educational institutions business model in the financing strategy, improve excellence at regular intervals sustainable in the interests of rural communities, implement the task of public relations in spreading the advancement of excellence of the school, and no achievement or excellence will find both nationally and internationally. Un acercamiento metodológico al desarrollo local desde la demografía

Se realiza un análisis de los componentes esenciales del proceso de gestión del desarrollo local, que han de constituirse en principios para la gestión del mismo. Se proponen cuatro principios para la gestión del desarrollo local, a saber: la descentralización, la financiación, la objetividad de la gestión y la participación. El proceso de desarrollo local no es posible al margen de la descentralización, para lo cual se necesita la definición de competencias de gestión local, comprendidas en su doble perspectiva, a saber, en sus componentes normativo y cognitivo. La financiación garantiza la autonomía para la gestión local. Para poder gestionar el desarrollo local se hace necesario poder tener una representación de la situación demográfica del territorio, pero para ello hace falta hacer una caracterización que identifique la situación real del territorio. Ello garantiza la objetividad en el proceso de gestión. Se presenta un algoritmo cuyos componentes constituyen pasos necesarios a cumplir para la instrumentación de indicadores sociodemográficos para la elaboración de las estrategias de desarrollo local. En la participación como principio, hay que tener en cuenta dos componentes ineludibles del mismo, a saber: la información-comunicación y la informatización, en el contexto del entramado institucional que le da cobertura a esa participación y los procedimientos para bregar con sus contenidos y evaluar su efecto. La información-comunicación garantiza el contenido de la participación mientras que la informatización es lo que garantiza la universalidad del acceso a la información como base para la participación social en el desarrollo local. An analysis is made of the essential components of the local development managing process, which are to be principles for managing local development. Those as principles for the management of local development are identified. And are proposed four principles for the management of local development, namely: decentralization, financing, management objectivity and participation. The process of local development is not possible taking it into apart the decentralization, necessary to define competences included from a dual perspective, namely in its normative and cognitive components. Financing is critical for local management autonomy. In order to manage local development, it is necessary a representation of territorial demographic situation, that`s why it is also necessary a characterization to identify the real demographic situation of the territory. This guarantees objectivity in the management process. An algorithm whose components are necessary steps to be followed for the instrumentation of sociodemographic indicators for local development strategies elaboration is presented. In participation principle, it is necessary to take into account two inescapable components of the same, namely: information-communication and computerization. Information-communication guarantees the content of participation while computerization is guarantees for the universal access to information as basis for social participation in local development.

"Panchayats and Ward Committees; Assessing India's Decentralised Institutions "

India adopted an ambitious reform policy of rural and urban decentralization in 1992, under which powers and finance are transferred to new local and regional bodies. These are governed by elected councils, in which women and members of disadvantaged groups/castes have a fixed quota of seats. While the legislation is still relatively new, some states have been able to make fast progress in decentralizing tasks, power and funds, while others have been much slower. This article presents an initial review of the decentralization efforts, exploring administrative, fiscal and political dimensions, and the implementation problems at central, state and local levels. Most emphasis is given to development at the local level: the panchayats in rural areas and the ward committees in urban areas, which is where the impact of decentralization should be felt. This article assesses whether increased proximity between citizens and government leads to increased transparency, accountability and participation.

Son dönemlerde dünyada olduğu gibi ülkemizde de popülaritesi giderek artan ve başta Bitcoin, Ethereum gibi kripto paraları içinde barındıran kripto para piyasası gerek uluslararası gerekse ulusal yazının ilgisini çekmektedir. Küresel değişimin ağırlıklı olarak finansal bağlamının son halkalarından biri olan bu piyasaya adaptasyon ve gelişim için hem işletmelerin hem de ulusların vizyon sahibi olarak gerekli adımları atmaları gerekmektedir. Bu durum karşısında bir toplumda; bilgi, farkındalık ve kullanım oranlarının ölçülmesi gereken en temel yapı taşları vatandaş ve işletmeler olacaktır. Bu bağlamda yapılmış olan araştırmanın iki temel aşaması bulunmaktadır. İlk aşamada ulaşılmak istenen amaç; Türk toplumunun kripto para piyasası hakkındaki farkındalık ve tutumunu ölçmek iken; ikinci aşamadaki amaç ise Türkiye’deki kripto para kullanan işletmelerin motivasyonlarını incelemektir. Bu temel amaçlar doğrultusunda ilgi sırasıyla 154 kişi ile anket ve 10 işletme ile çevrimiçi mülakat yapılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular neticesinde tartışma ve sonuç kısmında birey-işletme-toplum üçlü skalasında çeşitli çıkarımlarda ve önerilerde bulunulmuştur

FireChain: An Efficient Blockchain Protocol using Secure Gossip

Blockchains have become an integral part of many distributed applications, providing a new platform for interaction between system components. Blockchains are perhaps most known for their use in crypto-currency systems, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, where pseudo-anonymous parties engage in transactions without a trusted third party. Blockchain systems often struggle to meet performance demands of real-word applications, rendering them inappropriate for performance sensitive applications.\nThere is also concerns regarding the immense amount of electrical energy required to securely run existing public blockchain systems. Bitcoin alone consumes more than small countries. Private systems have higher throughput and avoid excessive energy consumption, but have closed membership and do not scale to the same extent.\n\nBoth public and private blockchains rely on some form of membership mechanism providing peers with a view of other participants. Existing systems often employ partial view protocols due to their natural scalability. However, recent work have shown that full view protocols are feasible in practice, and can scale to thousands of participants. With full membership, applications can send messages directly to their destination without any intermediate hops.\n\nThis thesis presents FireChain, which combines a Byzantine fault-tolerant gossip service and full membership, with a proposal for blockchain systems that does not consume excessive energy. We evaluate FireChain's performance through experiments on PlanetLab, and show that it scales beyond hundreds of members.

An Energy Blockchain, a Use Case on Tendermint

The recent advances in distributed energy systems require new models for exchanging energy among prosumers in microgrids. The blockchain technology promises to solve the digital issues related to distributed systems without a trusted authority and to allow quick and secure energy transactions, which are verified and cryptographically protected. Transactions are approved and subsequently recorded on all the machines participating in the blockchain. This work demonstrates how users, which are nodes of the energy and digital networks, exchange energy supported by a customized blockchain based on Tendermint. We focus on the procedures for generating blocks and defining data structures for storing energy transactions.

Blockchain and smart metering towards sustainable prosumers

The trend in the energy market has led in the last few years the increase in demand (eg the spread of electric vehicles) and an increase in volatile renewable energy sources (PV, Wind, etc.), a reduction in the use of fossil fuels, that destabilize the grid leading to black outs. The electricity grid is developing in a distributed network, so the connected energy markets are moving towards a new decentralized structure, where renewable sources and storage facilities (EVs), will have a significant penetration and adoption by energy customers, with the intent to provide sustainable solutions.[1] Balancing the demand and supply of electricity, in a system dominated by random elements, such as solar and wind production that depend on weather conditions, combined with the highly variable demand from domestic users, must lead to a new model of consumers and producers at the same time that is the so-called Prosumer and will be a challenge of great importance. With this paper we want to verify how the smart communities, made up of Prosumers, within smart cities, are the key to the new electricity distribution, based on ICT, IoT and smart metering. A significant contribution will be provided by the Blockchain to make the energy networks and related economic transactions secure and reliable.

Crypto Copycat: A Fashion Centric Blockchain Framework For Eliminating Fashion Infringement

The fashion industry represents a significant portion of<br> the global gross domestic product, however, it is plagued by cheap<br> imitators that infringe on the trademarks which destroys the fashion<br> industry's hard work and investment. While eventually the copycats<br> would be found and stopped, the damage has already been done, sales<br> are missed and direct and indirect jobs are lost. The infringer thrives<br> on two main facts: the time it takes to discover them and the lack of<br> tracking technologies that can help the consumer distinguish them.<br> Blockchain technology is a new emerging technology that provides a<br> distributed encrypted immutable and fault resistant ledger. Blockchain<br> presents a ripe technology to resolve the infringement epidemic<br> facing the fashion industry. The significance of the study is that a<br> new approach leveraging the state of the art blockchain technology<br> coupled with artificial intelligence is used to create a framework<br> addressing the fashion infringement problem. It transforms the current<br> focus on legal enforcement, which is difficult at best, to consumer<br> awareness that is far more effective. The framework, Crypto CopyCat,<br> creates an immutable digital asset representing the actual product<br> to empower the customer with a near real time query system. This<br> combination emphasizes the consumer's awareness and appreciation<br> of the product's authenticity, while provides real time feedback to<br> the producer regarding the fake replicas. The main findings of this<br> study are that implementing this approach can delay the fake product<br> penetration of the original product market, thus allowing the original<br> product the time to take advantage of the market. The shift in the<br> fake adoption results in reduced returns, which impedes the copycat<br> market and moves the emphasis to the original product innovation.

Maturity of Blockchain Technology in Local Electricity Markets

Currently, blockchain technology is a widely discussed hype in the energy community. It may have the potential to revolutionize the energy system and support the energy transition towards distributed renewable generation. In particular, local electricity markets (LEMs) seem to provide applications for the usage of blockchain technology. Through its innovative design as a distributed and decentralized information system, blockchain supporters see its potential in organizing residential households and prosumers in LEMs. We assess the current maturity of blockchain-based applications for LEMs. To this end, we develop a blockchain maturity model that constitutes a framework for analyzing the current and future maturity of blockchain-based LEMs in a comprehensive structured approach. In a second step, we apply the new blockchain maturity model to an use case of a blockchain-based LEM. Our assessment shows that, in the current status, the project is in an early stage of maturity due to missing regulatory rules and standardization.

Smart Collaboration Mechanism Using Blockchain Technology

Bitcoin is a decentralized digital currency that was introduced to the world in 2008. The underlying technology behind bitcoin as well as the other cryptocurrencies which followed it is blockchain technology. Nowadays, collaborative engineering is gaining tremendous popularity, especially in the information technology industry. In the future, technological giants may have to work with each other to complete large projects of great importance and significance. In such projects, trust management is crucial. With multiple parties involved in such projects, it is important that no party monopolizes the project and adds patches which are not known to the other parties. In addition, no party should have the authority to disclose the full contents of the work to a third party. In this paper, we propose a blockchain based solution to the above issues. The only authentic version of the project would be the one maintained in the blockchain. Collaborators would broadcast the changes they make, and it would be added to the blockchain only after consensus from all parties. We use a threshold key system on private keys so that consensus is achieved. Our proposed system guarantees secure release of the project as well as non-repudiation to collaborators.

A Novel Approach for Detecting Browser-Based Silent Miner

Transactions in the cryptocurrency market has been extremely hot in recent years, with the price of cryptocurrency climbing all the way. Hackers have turned their attentions to cryptocurrencies, and have used various means to acquire cryptocurrencies illegally, which caused huge losses to the victims. Some browsers block malicious mining activities from the network protocol level, but they do not have the ability to detect mining samples themselves, and it is difficult to make effective detection of homogenous mining samples of the network layer. To solve these problems, based on the attack pattern of browser mining, the browser-based silent mining features are analyzed, and a method to detect browser silent mining behavior is proposed. This method drives known malicious mining samples, extracts heap snapshots and stack code features of a dynamically running browser, and performs automated detection based on recurrent neural network. By modifying the kernel code of Chrome, a browser-based silent miner detection prototype system BMDetector was designed and implemented. With 1159 samples detected and analyzed, experimental results show that the recognition rate of the original mining sample is 98%, and 92% for the encrypted and confused, which is an effective and feasible method.

The Influence of Factors on Bitcoin Value Formation

The study is based on hypotheses about the influence of factors on bitcoin value formation. The aim of the article is the scientific inquiry and determination of factors affecting bitcoin value with a high level of correlation. The list of factors includes 33 world indicators, among which there are other cryptocurrencies, fiat money, world indices of stock markets, shares of powerful global companies, prices for energy and precious metals. As a result of the study, independent influential factors are selected and a correlation-regression model of bitcoin value is built. The statistical significance of the factors included in the model and the correlation-regression equation that allows simulating bitcoin value is substantiated. Practical approval of the proposed model using the actual data of the identified influence factors is carried out. Prospects for further research in this direction are based on applying trends as to independent factors that markedly affect the value of a bitcoin in order to model its future value. In addition to the factors identified, a significant influence on bitcoin value can be made by supply and demand, bitcoin scalability, interference of government regulatory institutions, the shadow money market, volume and nature of news in the crypto currency market.

In increasingly diverse areas of activity, the notion of block technology appears more and more often. What benefits and how they can be applied in the health sector will be presented in this article. This system is decentralized and cannot be controlled, and records cannot be modified. Blockchain technology offers efficiency and low health costs. In this way, the health of the population is monitored worldwide, by using an encryption program for the storage of patients' databases in diagnosis, laboratory analysis, medical imaging, medicine etc. Users are encouraged to use such a platform in a peer-to- peer market to have permanent access to medical history, and last but not least, to support the medical act for a correct diagnosis, research system and pharmaceutical industry. The objective of this paper is to achieving a technology that will make the medical system more efficient by decentralization, faster access to information and the creation of a solid database that will bring essential predictability to the system.

Secure Blockchain-Based Communication Scheme for Connected Vehicles

Autonomous connected vehicles are a main concept in the future of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) since they provide an increase in safety and road efficiency. The management and coordination of the connected vehicles is based on periodic communications among the vehicles involved in the network, and with their surrounding environment. However, a major concern regarding this information sharing process is how to provide a secure transmission while fulfilling the latency requirements. Here we propose the use of a joint paradigm to securely manage the inter-vehicular communications. First, a ring-signature based scheme is applied to verify the identity of the vehicles joining the network. Second, the information is shared among the vehicles and consensually verified using a blockchain-based mechanism using secure communication channels created by multi-party smart contracts. The proposed protocol fulfills the stringent requirements in latency for vehicular networks by means of almost instantaneous communications while providing an anonymous secure system for the members of the network relying on cryptographic primitives.

Recipient-Oriented Transaction for Preventing Double Spending Attacks in Private Blockchain

This paper presents a new approach for avoiding double-spending attacks via the concept of recipient-oriented concepts in private blockchain networks. Together with the concepts of stealth address and masternode at recipient sides, transactional privacy is assured and transaction recipients become active which receive transaction propagation unilaterally. Based on this approach, it can be shown that recipient-oriented method is suggested for preventing the double-spending attacks in this paper. In addition, the proposed method is possible to prevent double spending attacks using the verification time of the recipient and blocking time of the transaction.

There determined the content of the stages and the sequence of actions to transform the architecture of public financial control on the basis of new technological capabilities that give an impetus to the initialization of regulatory and legal support for using blockchain technology in Ukraine. There proposed a general algorithm for implementing blockchain technology in the system of public financial control, which realization is aimed at clarifying and synchronizing the processes of improving the system of public financial control, IT support for the control system, increasing the safety and transparency of control actions, monitoring and interaction of individual control bodies and tasks. It is proved that the only significant restriction in the implementation of blockchain may be the rules regarding disclosure of personal data and information constituting a commercial secret.

Dependability Evaluation of a Blockchain-as-a-Service Environment

The blockchain shared ledger emerged as an alternative to the bureaucratic banking system that may take days to confirm a payment or a transfer between clients. The blockchain concept evolved and became viable for various applications beyond the domain of financial transactions. Blockchains become a way to reach better relationships through contract validation, documents transfer, and personal and business data security. Recently, the blockchain-as-a-service has debuted on Microsoft Data Centers, and now many share an infrastructure that can change and improve their security routines. This paper evaluates the feasibility of a blockchain-as-a-service infrastructure and helps those who plan to deploy or sell blockchains. A modeling methodology based on Dynamical Reliability Block Diagrams (DRBD) is adopted to evaluate two dependability attributes: system's reliability and availability. The proposed infrastructure contains the minimum requirements to deploy the Hyperledger Cello, a platform to create and manage blockchains. The availability results pointed out a system downtime of 121 hours per year and reliability issues that must be addressed when building blockchain-as-a-service infrastructures.
