Investigating the factors affecting the acceptance of blockchain in telemedicine through an integrated model approach

Fatima Shaukat, Muhammad Shafiq, Atif Hussain

Purpose As a little research has been conducted to understand the factors influencing users’ intentions to adopt blockchain-based telemedicine (BBT), it is important to investigate BBT acceptance as incorporation of blockchain technology can solve telemedicine-related issues. Accordingly, this study aims to investigate the factors influencing behavioral intentions (BI) to adopt BBT. Design/methodology/approach An integrated model comprising the constructs taken from technology–organization–environment framework, technology acceptance model, unified theory of acceptance and use of technology and theory of planned behavior based on their relevance to the context and the objectives of the study has been used for this research. A quantitative approach has been used to test the hypotheses, for which the data was collected from 324 respondents through a self-administered questionnaire. Partial least squares structural equation modeling has been used to test the hypotheses. Findings The results of the study show that relative advantage, perceived usefulness, trust and perceived ease of use have a significant impact on BI to adopt BBT, whereas regulatory support, subjective norms and facilitating conditions do not have any significant impact on the same. Research limitations/implications As the concept of BCT in Pakistan is at its nascent stage and literature regarding this technology’s adoption is also limited, researchers and scholars can apply it to several other fields in Pakistan. For example, this study can be extended to explore the factors influencing blockchain adoption in areas such as education, logistics, transportation, finances and management. This research only considers the direct effects of constructs on BI to adopt BBT and does not consider any mediation and moderations constructs. Future researchers can also study the influence of mediation and moderation constructs on BI to adopt BCT. Originality/value Although studies on the acceptance of telemedicine exist, there is a gap concerning the acceptance of BBT, which the current study helps to bridge. From a practical standpoint, the current study makes a highly valuable contribution toward understanding acceptance factors for BBT projects, leading to help policymakers devise policies to promote telemedicine.

Sergej Gričar, Violeta Šugar, Tea Baldigara, Raffaella Folgieri

With the emergence of the metaverse, countries’ digital efforts to create tourism opportunities have given rise to the possibility of capitalising on digital content which, along with physical tourism experiences, can generate further income and enhance a country’s reputation. Non-fungible tokens (NFTs), a unique application of blockchain technology, offer an enabling technology in several sectors, including tourism. Therefore, this study aims to explore the official tourism websites of Croatia and Slovenia and analyse current NFT applications in tourism economics. The methodology focuses explicitly on sentiment analysis, blockchain and machine learning. The paper introduces various applications currently in place, including Slovenia’s “I Feel Nft” project. The research shows that the main benefits of using NFT and sentiment analysis in the tourism economy are the promotion and presentation of major tourist destinations, exhibitions, works of art, and companies’ products in tokens, digital content and souvenirs. The adoption of sentiment analysis and NFTs in the tourism economy is still open to proposals for implementing public quantitative data metrics. Therefore, the scientific contribution of this research is essential in terms of operational recommendations and defining metrics for measuring the effectiveness of those methodologies and their applications in the tourism economy. On top of that, the practical contribution lies in monitoring the influx of tourists, and highlighting their increase over time and the significance of new technology in time series tourism research.

Continuous Use of NFT Trading Platforms: A Perspective Integrating the Expectation Confirmation Model and the Information Systems Success Model

Sun Fan

To facilitate the sustained development of non-fungible token (NFT) platforms and enhance user stickiness, it is imperative to study the factors that affect users’ continuous usage intentions. This research is grounded in the Expectation Confirmation Model and the Information Systems Success Model, and extends these approaches by introducing three elements—economic benefits, perceived trustworthiness, and technological pressure—thereby constructing the research model. Structural equation modeling was employed to analyze data from 304 respondents with experience in using NFT trading platforms. The findings indicate that: (1) technological pressure is positively correlated with perceived ease of use; (2) both service quality and information quality are positively correlated with perceived ease of use and usefulness; (3) perceived ease of use, usefulness, economic benefits, and their impact on individuals and organizations are all positively correlated with continuous usage intention; and (4) system quality is not significantly related to perceived ease of use or usefulness, nor is perceived trustworthiness significantly related to continuous usage intention. Based on these findings, we provide practical recommendations for optimizing NFT platforms and offer guidance for platform developers and operators.

Analysis of Factors that Influence Non-Fungible Token (NFT) Digital Content Purchase Intention

Erwin Halim, Abrar Arkananta Putra Denny, Kevin Samuel Pratama Simanjuntak, Christian Christian · 5 authors

Blockchain is considered an innovative technology across all industry sectors where digitalization is prevalent. One of the frontiers in blockchain’s use case in digital content is the Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT), a digital asset representing non-fungible assets. Since the technology is new and lacks standardization and regulation, society doubts using NFT as the new asset class. This study aims to determine people’s intention to purchase NFT. This research employs quantitative research to establish the relationship between two variables. Data was collected using a questionnaire utilizing google form to share the questionnaire while the method used is Purposive Sampling. The respondents are from the Jabodetabek Area (cities surrounding the capital of Indonesia) who have already purchased NFT, are interested in NFT, or are considering investing in NFT soon. The data was collected from 155 respondents on May 9, 2023, but only 145 fulfilled the requirements for this research. There are ten variables (Usefulness, Ease of Use, benefit, Satisfaction, Risk, Reputation, Familiarity, Trust, and NFT Purchase Intention) with eight hypotheses and one hypothesis that did not affect NFT Purchase Intention. This research found that the risk of using NFTs did not affect to why NFTs market are in decline despite the risk of using NFTs in general.

Decentralising Airbnb: Testing the acceptability of blockchain-based sharing economy systems

Ikram Nur Muharam, Iis Tussyadiah, Albert Nsom Kimbu

This study employs a sequential exploratory mixed-methods approach to investigate users' perspectives and acceptability of blockchain-based sharing economy systems. The suggested model explains how users’ perceptions of specific features of such concepts influence acceptance in ways that existing theories like TPB, TAM, or UTAUT cannot. The results revealed that user empowerment was the most significant factor influencing acceptance. Furthermore, multigroup analysis (MGA) demonstrates how different contexts have distinct acceptance predictors. Depending on the context, perceived lower fees, perceived faster settlement, perceived income distribution, perceived fraudproof, and perceived traceability had varying significance. Meanwhile, perceived immutability, perceived process automation, and perceived transparency, even though considered appealing, were not significant in influencing acceptance. The findings imply that stakeholders should balance technicality and behavioural aspects, and be aware of the context.
