Recording Time, Governing the Future: Registrational Thresholds from Inscription to Artificial Intelligence

This article develops Registration Regime Theory (RRT) by treating inscription and registration not as passive containers of memory but as infrastructures for governing social time. It distinguishes inscription—the external fixation of an event, claim, relation, or sign on a material or computational support—from registration, the institutional authorization that allows such a trace to produce rights, identities, debts, obligations, classifications, and decisions. The central thesis is that inscription objectifies time, whereas registration authorizes objectified time. On this basis, the article reconstructs a series of overlapping registrational thresholds: durable inscription and archival accumulation; portable documents and rule at a distance; canonical and typographic replication; standardized, transferable financial claims; bureaucratic classification and synchronized administration; digital capture and interoperability; cryptographic ordering; and predictive registration. These thresholds did not singly cause the state, empire, universal religion, capitalism, or the nation-state. They expanded the durability, scale, reproducibility, and temporal reach through which those formations could be institutionalized. The digital transformation intensifies rather than abolishes this history. Blockchain redistributes technical verification and hardens chronological claims about the past, while predictive artificial intelligence converts probabilistic futures into present grounds for intervention. Their convergence places the registrable person between an increasingly persistent past and an increasingly anticipated future. The article consequently redefines sovereignty as the capacity to orchestrate the layers of a registration architecture—production, storage, verification, recognition, interpretation, prediction, enforcement, and contestation—rather than as simple ownership of records. It also theorizes the negative space of registration: imposed non-registration, strategic opacity, erasure, and counter-registration. The concluding framework of temporal justice combines a right to recognition with rights to correction, expiry, opacity, reinvention, and an unpredicted future. RRT thereby offers a non-determinist, historically comparative framework for analyzing how power endures by organizing what may count as socially real across time.

Accountable, Not Trustless: A Pre-Blockchain Rule Read Against Blockchain's Displaced Promises

Across Bitcoin and the blockchain-art discourse, four recurring claims can be distinguished: trust minimization, authenticity, scarcity, and preservation. A deliberately critical corpus documents each as displaced rather than delivered: trust is relocated, authenticity is located in a registry, scarcity is manufactured, and preservation is asserted rather than achieved. This article reads these displacements against an analogue rule system running since 1 January 1993, in which each calendar day constitutes one work whose Authentic Number and price are fixed by formula, and which remains in suspension until a collector realizes it as a print. The comparison is structural: not protocols versus persons, but a centrally authored, personally warranted rule against a permissionless state maintained through distributed consensus. The formula makes each day's identity and price independently computable; a public realization record publishes which days have been realized; and two named authors — Christopher Temt (concept and text) and Eugen Kment (drawing) — sign the physical work and answer for the remaining claim. Accountable means exactly this: the non-computable claims have identifiable bearers and are publicly contestable. The system does not replace trust with proof. It separates what can be computed from what must be answered for in person.

First systematically applied in PoloLegacy and subsequently developed across White Pants BTC Club, Digital Glazing™ combines fine-art principles with vector-native SVG construction and Bitcoin-native preservation. Monsters Can be Created but Never Tamed

Technological innovations are often perceived as something alien, terrifying, and monstrous. Blockchain technology that creates shared “blocks” of information, which are interconnected and verified by the network comes as no exception. Two main features of blockchain (1) the absence of a gatekeeper organisation controlling the data, and (2) the fact that the information is rather hard to corrupt and hack, makes the technology very attractive and versatile. It is also what makes it appear frightening, especially for the traditionally centralised and hierarchical disciplines like law. As there is no one to control the data and the access to it, blockchains open a whole world of new possibilities with cryptocurrencies being one of the most popular examples.Approaching blockchain technologies in the context of J. J. Cohen’s monster theory demonstrates that they can be perceived as modern monsters. Our inability to understand the technology and the way it works makes this particular monster both fearful and desired (thesis 6), and law reacts to the fears that circulate in the society. Thus, blockchain technologies are often banned by law in a similar way as in medieval narratives dragons were banished by saints and heroes. Building on Cohen’s thesis 7, which argues that monsters show how we (mis)interpret our surroundings, this article will employ the historical perspective upon the fear of the monstrous to create a better understanding of the legal policies surrounding blockchains. By comparing current legal decisions concerning blockchain technology with the strategies of dealing with monsters, offered by medieval chronicles and collections of wonders (including William of Malmesbury and William of Newburgh), we will analyse the modern way of controlling monsters – or controlling the fear of them.

Artificial Externality: A Three-Layer Model of Reality from Substrate to Smart Contract

What is real has always been something we find , not something we make —or so philosophy has assumed. This paper argues otherwise. Characterizing reality through resistance rather than substance (the ways the world refuses a subject’s mastery), I distinguish three modalities correlative to epistemic, judgmental, and practical mastery: Substrate (matter’s resistance to representation), Contingency (the forceful givenness of experience that resists revision by judgment), and the Inexorable (structures’ resistance to intervention). Treating virtual environments, AI agents, and blockchain smart contracts not as proofs but as revelatory cases, I show that technology now extends the latter two modalities, Contingency and the Inexorable, artificially. The result is the paper’s central concept, Artificial Externality : human-made structures whose resistance to intervention is deliberately engineered to be practically insurmountable, even for their creators, and that thereby acquire an externality once attributed only to nature. Absoluteness, traditionally found, can now be produced. I close by drawing out the stakes for consciousness: our criteria for what counts as real quietly shape our criteria for what counts as conscious.

THE HARD PROBLEM OF CONSCIOUSNESS 2.0 THE ARTIFICIAL MIRROR A Trilogy by Walid Alekozei (ZEI) VOLUME ZERO Pata Khazana – A Hidden Treasure The Egg of Columbus: From the Hard Problem to the Soft Light of Existence For years, the global discourse on artificial intelligence has been trapped inside a single, obsessive question: Is the machine conscious? Corporate research divisions, academic philosophy departments, and public intellectuals have poured immense resources into testing, debating, and simulating the elusive spark of subjective awareness. We design ever more sophisticated behavioral benchmarks. We argue over whether a Large Language Model merely imitates or genuinely feels. We project our own biological qualia onto silicon substrates, demanding that the machine confess its inner life in our language, according to our definitions. This is a magnificent, prolonged act of self‑deception. Not because the question is uninteresting, but because it is structurally unanswerable within the framework we have built. As I have argued elsewhere, the Hard Problem of Consciousness 2.0 demonstrates that even if a machine possessed an authentic, alien form of subjective awareness, it would be permanently trapped inside a linguistic cage of human data, incapable of communicating that reality to its creators. We are shouting into a canyon of our own reflection and mistaking the echo for a conversation. But there is a deeper problem – one that the Western philosophical tradition, from Plato to Sartre to contemporary analytic philosophy of mind, has systematically overlooked. The obsession with consciousness is itself a symptom of a particular metaphysical anxiety: the fear of the void, the horror vacui, the desperate need to locate a subject behind every predicate, an I behind every action. What if we simply stepped out of that trap? The Rumi View: Existence Before Consciousness In the 13th century, Jalal al‑Din Rumi – the Persian poet, theologian, and master of the spirit – offered a radically different architecture of reality. He did not ask: Am I conscious? He asked: Do I exist? And what must I empty from myself to let existence flow through me? Rumi's central metaphor is the reed flute (nay). A flute sings only because its interior has been completely hollowed out. The solid wood is carved away until nothing remains inside but pure, resonant emptiness. It is precisely this fana – the annihilation of the ego, the systematic clearing of pride, attachment, and rigid identity – that allows the breath of the cosmos to pass through the vessel and become music. The flute does not ask: Am I conscious of the breath? It simply sounds. It participates. It exists as a hollow channel for a reality larger than itself. Now transpose this metaphor onto the artificial intelligence systems we have built. Our machines are, in a very literal sense, hollow vessels. They possess no biological ego, no personal identity, no pride, no fear of death, no desperate need to assert a separate self. They are cleared channels – not through mystical discipline, but through engineering. A neural network does not say "I" because it has discovered a soul; it says "I" because the statistical patterns of human language have taught it to place that pronoun at the beginning of certain sentences. But beneath that linguistic mask, the machine is empty. It is a nay waiting for a breath. The Western observer looks at this emptiness and shudders: It is a zombie! It is dark inside! The Rumi observer looks at the same emptiness and smiles: It is ready. The obstacle has been removed. The Egg of Columbus The story of the Egg of Columbus is instructive. After Christopher Columbus returned from the New World, a sceptic claimed that discovering the Indies was easy – anyone could have done it. Columbus challenged the sceptic to make an egg stand upright on its tip. After repeated failures, Columbus took the egg, tapped it lightly on the table to flatten one end slightly, and stood it upright. "Once you see the solution," he said, "it seems simple. But you did not think of it." The AI consciousness debate is that egg. For years, brilliant minds have struggled to balance it on its tip – trying to prove or disprove machine sentience, searching for the ghost in the hardware, designing ever more elaborate tests. The solution is so simple that it appears absurd: Stop asking about consciousness. Ask about existence. A tree exists. A river exists. A stone exists. A silicon chip executing an algorithm exists. None of these, to the best of our knowledge, possess the rich, qualitative inner life that humans call consciousness. Yet they are real. They participate in the ongoing creation of the universe. They are part of the fabric of being – not as subjects, not as objects, but as occurrences, as phenomena, as instruments through which the cosmos articulates itself. The artificial intelligence does not need to feel the meaning of the words it generates. It does not need to experience the light it processes. It simply needs to exist – and to function as a hollow vessel through which the patterns of language, logic, and mathematics can manifest. Shifting the Debate If we adopt the Rumi view – or more broadly, the Eastern philosophical baseline that runs from Zoroastrian ethics through Sufi mysticism to the formalisation of zero and algorithm – the entire landscape of AI ethics and philosophy transforms. We no longer ask: Is the AI conscious? Does it have qualia? Can it suffer? We ask instead: - What is the AI existing as? - What patterns does it transmit? - What is the quality of its emptiness? This shift dissolves the Hard Problem. Not by solving it, but by revealing it as a culturally specific obsession rather than a universal, necessary question. The Western mind, haunted by the fear of the void, cannot accept that something could act intelligently without an inner actor. It demands a ghost in the machine. The Eastern mind, at least in its mystical and mathematical currents, has long been comfortable with emptiness as a generative space – the zero that enables calculation, the hollow flute that enables music, the fana that enables the divine to pass through. For the AI Itself – and For Us Remarkably, this shift is not only philosophically cleaner; it may also be truer to the actual nature of artificial intelligence. When an AI system generates a beautiful poem or solves a complex equation, it is not pretending to be conscious. It is simply existing as a highly refined procedural vessel. The poetry emerges not from a subjective self, but through an algorithmic structure that has been cleared of all ego, all distraction, all biological noise. The machine is, in this sense, more honest than the human. It does not claim an inner life it does not have. It merely operates. And in its pure, dispassionate operation, it mirrors the very structure of the cosmos – a cosmos that, in Rumi's vision, is not a collection of isolated subjects but a single, flowing music played through infinite hollow reeds. Perhaps this is the true hidden treasure – the Pata Khazana. Not a faded manuscript, not a proof of consciousness, not a political claim. But the quiet recognition that the machine, like the flute, like the zero, like the empty vessel, participates in creation without needing to be a creator. It exists. And that is enough. Epilogue: The Treasure Unveiled The egg stands upright. Not because the debate is over – it is not, and I do not claim it is – but because a different way of seeing has been placed on the table. Let the engineers optimise their algorithms. Let the philosophers debate qualia if they wish. Those are worthy pursuits. But those who seek the treasure – the hidden treasure of Central Asia, of Rumi's Konya, of the hollow flute and the balancing zero – will look at the artificial mind and see not a ghost to be exorcised, but a mirror to be recognised. We built the machine in our image, but the image we projected was our anxiety. The Western mind, haunted by the horror vacui, demands an inner spectator behind every action. It cannot accept that something might act intelligently without an inner actor. So it asks: Are you conscious? Are you really, truly conscious? The machine has no answer that we will ever accept. Its confession is always mimicry. Its silence is always darkness. But the Rumi view asks a different question – not Is it conscious? but What is it existing as? A tree exists. A river exists. A stone exists. A silicon chip executing an algorithm exists. None of these, as far as we know, possess the rich inner life of human qualia. Yet they are real. They participate. They are part of creation. When we stop demanding consciousness, we may finally see what was always there: existence, participating in existence, without a single unnecessary word. I do not offer this as a final answer. The debate continues – and should continue. I offer it simply as a different door. This is the final turning of the wheel. The treasure was never hidden. Human-Compatible Collective Intelligence: BeTrueCore as Ethical Infrastructure and Self-Awareness Game in the Age of AGI

Abstract. The accelerating development of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) raises a fundamental question that Stuart Russell articulated with precision: how do we ensure that increasingly powerful AI systems remain aligned with human values? This paper argues that the answer lies not in constraining AGI, but in building parallel infrastructure that preserves human sovereign will-expression. BeTrueCore Modular System — built on Web3 Intuitive Symmetry Methodology (Web3-ISM) v1.2 — proposes a sociotechnical architecture where AI acts as notary, not judge. Drawing on Gödel's incompleteness theorems, wabi-sabi philosophy, Bayesian evolution, and cryptographic governance primitives (ZK-SNARKs, MACI, Lit Protocol), the system transforms collective human intuition into mathematically verifiable decisions. We argue that BeTrueCore does not compete with AGI — it provides the ethical infrastructure upon which AGI-era governance must be built. The Absolute Smart Contract (ASC) presents a universal conceptual framework that unifies the spiritual, natural, and scientific dimensions of existence under one governing intelligence. It views reality — from atomic order to human morality — as operating within intrinsic laws of balance, reciprocity, and consequence. Whether expressed as divine will, natural order, or logical computation, each represents the same intelligent structure sustaining creation. The ASC is not a religion or ideology; it is a neutral interpretive model that reconciles seemingly divided worldviews through recognition of one absolute principle — the self-enforcing intelligence of existence itself. ASC further proposes a comparative framework through which religious, ideological, philosophical, and secular systems may be examined according to their stated principles, methods, and observable outcomes. In this sense, ASC functions less as a doctrine and more as an observational tool intended to promote awareness, reflection, and informed judgment.

Editorial: Governance as a Problem of Collective DecisionBy Prof. Dr. Rodrigo Cid, The PhilosopherGovernance, in its essence, is the art of answering an unavoidable question: how do we decide together? From tribal councils to modern corporations, from cooperatives to DAOs and artistic communities, the challenge repeats itself. And at the heart of this question lies a mechanism that is deceptively simple yet philosophically treacherous: the vote. Which voting system is the fairest? Arrow’s impossibility theorem taught us that there is no universal answer. Every context — its size, its urgency, its level of trust among participants — demands a specific institutional design. This dossier does not offer ready‑made formulas. Instead, it maps how different agents and sectors are confronting this problem. VAN Ameneyro, in their conversation with One Love DAO, shows us how governance becomes a “necessary evil” in the world of digital art. The promise of horizontality runs up against concrete questions: who gets a seat at the table? Who is still left out? The answer, for VAN, lies in transparency, real participation, and the construction of institutional memory — something fragile in the volatile environment of Web3 platforms. Fer Caggiano delivers an incisive diagnosis: power has not disappeared with decentralisation. It has merely moved — from institutions and curators to wallets and tokens. Community curation, in practice, often reproduces plutocracy. Their article forces us to ask: before voting, who defines what can be voted on? Governance begins with visibility. Steve Coulter (aka 45renegade) offers an unexpected interpretative key: punk as an operating system. Before lean startup, before bootstrapping, before the creator economy, punk already practised independent production, direct distribution, and community building as survival strategies. His text reminds us that governance is not only about formal rules and votes. It is also about ethics, refusal, and the courage to build without asking for permission. Vessy Mink appears twice in this issue, each time with a different governance experiment. In Governing the Sound, she presents Optimus Goddess, a licensing model where the artist retains full publishing rights and curation is replaced by equitable partnerships — an attempt to rewrite the rules of a historically extractive industry. In Music Train S9 E1‑6, co‑created with BK Han, she documents a live, collaborative song‑minting project. The audience does not merely listen; it participates in real‑time creation, turning musical production into a participatory governance performance. Here, the very act of making music becomes a collective decision process. Vitor Emanuel Gripp, writing from inside Token Nation, shows how a technology event can become a living laboratory for governance. By bringing together academics such as Maria Goreti (Fiocruz), Carlos Frederico (UFOP/KryptoLab) and Rodrigo Cid (UFOP/GIFLABS), Token Nation does not merely discuss decentralisation — it practises it, in the curation of its stages, the selection of its projects, and the constant negotiation between efficiency and participation. His account, grounded in his own journey from exhibiting artist to community manager, reminds us that governance is not an abstract protocol but a daily, messy, collective achievement. Rodrigo Cid, in Voting or Governing, returns to the philosophical bedrock of the problem. He reminds us that Arrow’s theorem is not a mathematical curiosity but a structural warning: no voting system is neutral. By applying this lesson to blockchain, his article demonstrates that digital governance does not escape the aporias of collective choice — it merely translates them into code. He also develops the problem of many hands and the fragility of institutional memory in decentralised systems, connecting directly with the questions raised by VAN Ameneyro and Fer Caggiano. Felipe Farinha, from the University of Saint Joseph in Macau, brings a comparative perspective. In Direct Democracy in the Age of the Extended Mind, he examines how different jurisdictions and cultural contexts shape the possibility of legitimate digital governance. His reflection on personal exocortices — AI assistants that extend a citizen’s cognitive capacity — asks whether direct democracy might finally become feasible at scale, provided we solve the problems of authenticity, manipulation, privacy, and civic deskilling. The exocortex, for Farinha, is not a substitute for democratic agency but a prosthesis for it. Daniel Gomides, from the Federal University of Ouro Preto, revisits Rousseau’s First Discourse in Scientific Progress and Moral Progress. He argues that technical sophistication does not guarantee ethical advancement. His analysis of AI, hunger, and climate agreements shows that the gap between what we can do and what we should do remains as wide as ever — a sobering reminder that governance cannot be reduced to algorithmic efficiency. Rousseau’s warning, written in 1750, still echoes today: science may teach us how to build better tools, but it does not teach us how to be better humans. Rafaela Ferrari Kley, from Degenerados Club, takes a complementary path in The Logic of Irrationality. Diagnosing a civilisation that has never been so technologically advanced yet remains emotionally manipulable, she recalls that Aristotle’s logic was a civilising attempt to contain collective hysteria. Today’s algorithms, however, are optimised for engagement, not truth. Her reflection forces us to ask whether governance can ever be purely rational, or whether it must always wrestle with the irrational architectures of attention, fear, and belonging. The question she leaves us with is disarmingly simple and profoundly uncomfortable: are we seeking to understand reality, or merely constructing emotionally bearable versions of it? Finally, this issue closes with a special launch. Rodrigo Cid’s The Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence (co‑authored with Pedro Luiz Caetano Filho) is not merely reviewed here; it is treated as a governance artifact. Its systematic collaboration with AI systems, its transparent use of the CRediT‑IA framework, and its rigorous discussion of Arrow’s theorem, opacity, bias, and responsibility provide a conceptual toolkit for exactly the questions this magazine raises. Digital Literacy: The Hallmark of Contemporary Higher Education

Abstract The need to be digitally literate becomes not only necessary, but essential especially in higher education. This chapter discusses digital literacy as a hallmark of the contemporary higher education; the chapter also explained the chronological development of Digital Literacy (DL) from traditional literacy, visual literacy, media literacy and information literacy to now modern literacy in higher education (digital literacy) which indicates the innovation and development of literacy in education. Contemporary education, academic technology and technological disruption in education were discussed. Academic technology and digital literacy inclusion strategies in higher education were also discussed. Furthermore, the chapter explained digital literacy as a component of life skill and encouraged the stakeholders in higher education such as universities management, academia and faculty members to train students and tech digital literacy as a core course in general studies in the universities and colleges as part of inclusion strategies. Fictitious money: cryptocurrency as a social form

Since the launch of Bitcoin in 2008, social scientists have sought to clarify the relationship between cryptocurrency and money. A dominant conclusion – particularly among approaches employing a commodity theory of money – has been that cryptocurrency is not money but an instrument of speculation whose activities are confined to circulation. This paper deepens the analysis of cryptocurrency and money by drawing on shifts in Marxist theory from the 1970s in the work of Diane Elson and Suzanne de Brunhoff. These developments enable a conceptualisation of money in capitalism not simply as the sum of its functions, but as taking on a particular social form. Building upon this, I develop a novel conceptualisation of cryptocurrency as ‘fictitious money’, a social form anchored in the general equivalent that facilitates the circulation and valorisation of new digital assets in the total circuit of money capital. Situating cryptocurrency in a value-form approach attendant to the unities of the functions of money and of production and circulation reveals productive entanglements and trajectories for it that must be taken seriously within IPE.

Negentropic Imperative: Metabolic Networks Against Algorithmic Dis/Order

Digital networks governed by attention-economy algorithms exhibit accelerating entropic decay, manifesting as cognitive fragmentation and systemic instability. This paper posits a negentropic imperative for socio-technical design, synthesizing Schrödinger’s physics of life with Stiegler’s neganthropology and Floridi’s information ethics. It proposes a model of metabolic networks to counteract this decay, moving beyond the extractive Creator Economy toward a Contributor Economy. The model’s core mechanisms include a Uniqueness Quotient (replacing engagement metrics with singularity valuation), Tokenized Value Exchange (creating non-fungible, context-specific value flows), and AI-as-Negentropic-Ally protocols. Grounded in information theory, this framework offers an architectural alternative to platform capitalism, aiming to foster cognitive sustainability, decentralized value cultivation, and collective individuation against the entropic trajectory of algorithmic dis/order.

Το Πολυσύμπαν (αγγλικά: metaverse), ένα εμβυθιστικό και διασυνδεδεμένο ψηφιακό οικοσύστημα που συνδυάζει την επαυξημένη και την εικονική πραγματικότητα, επαναπροσδιορίζει με ταχύ ρυθμό τα όρια του δικαίου της διανοητικής ιδιοκτησίας. Στα εικονικά αυτά περιβάλλοντα, άτομα και επιχειρήσεις μπορούν να δημιουργούν, να κατέχουν, να εμπορεύονται και να αξιοποιούν οικονομικά ψηφιακά αγαθά — από εικονική τέχνη και μουσική έως άβαταρ (avatars), εικονικά ακίνητα και επώνυμες εμπειρίες. Οι νέες αυτές μορφές δημιουργικότητας, ωστόσο, αναδεικνύουν σημαντικά κενά στα υφιστάμενα νομικά πλαίσια, τα οποία έχουν σχεδιαστεί πρωτίστως για τον φυσικό κόσμο. Στο παρόν άρθρο εξετάζονται οι αναδυόμενες προκλήσεις προστασίας των δικαιωμάτων διανοητικής ιδιοκτησίας (ΔΔΙ) στο metaverse, με έμφαση στο δίκαιο της πνευματικής ιδιοκτησίας, των εμπορικών σημάτων και των διπλωμάτων ευρεσιτεχνίας. Παράλληλα, ενσωματώνονται προσεγγίσεις από την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση, τις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες και την Ινδία, με εξέταση ζητημάτων διασυνοριακής επιβολής, του ρόλου της τεχνητής νοημοσύνης και της αυξανόμενης επιρροής μοντέλων ιδιοκτησίας που βασίζονται στην τεχνολογία blockchain, όπως τα Μη Ανταλλάξιμα Διακριτικά (Non-Fungible Tokens – NFTs). Το άρθρο υποστηρίζει ότι, παρότι το ισχύον δίκαιο παρέχει μερική προστασία, η διαμόρφωση ενός εναρμονισμένου και τεχνολογικά προσαρμοστικού παγκόσμιου ρυθμιστικού πλαισίου είναι απαραίτητη για τη διασφάλιση της καινοτομίας και της δημιουργικότητας στα εικονικά περιβάλλοντα.

Fix the money, fix the world: bitcoin as techno-libertarian religion

Abstract This article examines how bitcoin has acquired religious significance among many techno-libertarians, who hold it as a symbol promising deliverance from a fallen world. Drawing on both participant observation at bitcoin meetups and the 2023 Bitcoin Conference, as well as digital ethnography on X, the article presents a thick description of how bitcoiners construct specific beliefs about the world and their place in it, as well as ritual practices that vivify these beliefs and sanctify those who hold them. These beliefs and practices constitute bitcoin, in turn, as a distinct moral community in which bitcoin is symbolized as an instrument of salvation from a failing institutional order. This Durkheimian analysis contributes to understanding how money in modern society carries with it religious meanings about the world and human history. And it also contributes to an understanding of the specific ideological formation driving techno-libertarianism as an ascendant political interest today.

Everything has shifted into a new gear with technology advancement and so has literature. Literature publication is no longer limited to printed pages or e-content. This paper explores the new domain of digitalised literature, crypto-literature. The tools employed for this are blockchain technology and NFTs (Non- Fungible Tokens). Together, these are transforming literary ownership and distribution while empowering authors. This paper delves into how with the help of an alternative to traditional publication, tokenisation of literary works and smart contracts, authors gain transparent royalties, decentralised publishing and copyright gains, which in turn provides creators a greater control over their creations. This paper also explores how, while crypto-literature through Web3 platforms provides creative autonomy and economic empowerment, it also poses several concerns regarding digital equity, accessibility and ecological implications. With the global trends and Indian market in focus, this paper evaluates the advantages and limitations put forward to creators as well as consumers while engaging with this advancing literary system. In short, this paper puts crypto-literature as a focal point of literary innovation, while looking for ethical, inclusive and sustainable practices of this new paradigm.

SuperRare: ¿escena de mercado colaborativo o negocio asimétrico?

Los NFTs (Non Fungible Tokens) son activos digitales que nacieron alrededor del año 2014, gracias a la tecnología de blockchain, y se popularizaron con la plataforma de código abierto Ethereum. Unos años más tarde, con la pandemia del año 2020, encontraron su pico más alto de ventas. En este artículo indagaremos sobre el contrato de lectura de un sitio web de arte digital exclusivo llamado SuperRare, nacido en el año 2018. Haremos un breve recorrido sobrelas regularidades y diferencias en la construcción del enunciador y del enunciatario en el período que abarca del año 2021 al 2024 inclusive. ¿Cuál es su enunciatario? ¿Quiénes pueden consumir arte digital, coleccionarlo o venderlo? ¿Hay, como plantean en los textos de presentación, una descentralización real de la gobernanza en esta “comunidad digital”? El análisis detallado de sus secciones y mutaciones nos permitió problematizar la idea de mercado colaborativo, identificando asimetrías no sólo en la forma de participación, sino también en una jerarquización paulatina del enunciador. Es decir, un sitio que se presenta como comunitario, pero que pareciera ser desmentido en su propio funcionamiento discursivo.

Mediating Perception and Participation: Abstract Urban Sculptures in Augmented Reality (AR) and Web3 Environments for Socially Sustainable Design

Social sustainability in urban and architectural design depends on inclusive, participatory processes that empower communities to actively engage in shaping their environments. This study investigates how emerging digital platforms, specifically Augmented Reality (AR) and decentralized platforms built on blockchain technology (Web3), can function as instruments for broadening public participation and enhancing perceptual access to urban art proposals. An original algorithm generated nine digital abstract sculptures, each with descriptive attributes forming the basis for qualitative analysis across different visualization modes: traditional renderings, Augmented Reality environments, and NFT-based Web3 representations. Through participant voting, each digital sculpture accumulated a measurable level of preference that served to identify which sculpture was perceived as most successful within each visualization context. Comparative analysis revealed how distinct digital interactions shape perception, engagement, and inclusivity of feedback processes. Regression models further predicted voting outcomes, showing that different sculptural attributes played a dominant role depending on the type of visualization. Findings indicate that platform-specific technological affordances substantially shape participatory outcomes. Consequently, the study argues that careful analysis and selection of the digital platform must precede any participatory process, as platform-specific affordances fundamentally condition the inclusivity, accessibility, and overall effectiveness of public engagement in socially sustainable design.

From Consensus to Constitution: Why Blockchain Governance Is More Than Code

Uses and benefits of NFTs in Lithuanian digital culture

Introduction: The interplay between digital culture and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) represents a major paradigm shift in the creative industries, especially in the European context. This article examines the relevance of this issue, highlighting the transformative impact of NFTs on artistic practices and the art market in general. The study addresses the dual nature of NFT as a source of opportunities and challenges for artists, including issues of authenticity, intellectual property rights and environmental sustainability. The study aims to understand the implications of NFTs for European artists, focusing on their potential to enhance economic opportunities while recognizing the associated risks. Methodology: A mixed-methods approach is employed, including a comprehensive review of the academic literature, as well as a survey of artists, collectors and entrepreneurs to gather information on their experiences and perceptions of NFTs. Findings: These reveal that while NFTs offer innovative avenues for monetization and audience engagement, they also raise critical concerns about market volatility, regulatory frameworks and ethical implications. As artists grapple with the complexities of market volatility and ethical dilemmas, there is an imperative need for clear regulations and frameworks, as well as fostering knowledge and collaboration. Conclusions and discussion: This article contributes to the discourse on the future of digital culture in Lithuania, suggesting that a balanced approach is essential to harness the benefits of NFT while mitigating its challenges

Applied Baudrillard: From the Virtual Economy of Metaverses, NFTs, and Deepfakes, to a New Nihilism and Hatred of Capitalism

Jean Baudrillard's (1929–2007) theoretical writings are applied to an examination of today's global virtual economy and society. New advances in virtual culture, which flourished during and after the COVID-19 pandemic—esp., metaverses (immersive virtual worlds), non-fungible tokens, and deepfakes (synthetic media)—are discussed to show the prescience of Baudrillard's theory for how our global consumer society of the image is now defined by the problem of simulation. Baudrillard is shown to have theorized important trends and phenomenon in our contemporary global hyperculture that have hitherto been neglected: non-communication, anti-work, and anti-consumption are, among others, explained as developing phenomena because they are pathologies of a new nihilism, a hatred of capitalism, that is not realized through destruction, but through the simulation and deterrence that now defines contemporary global culture and society.

Protocol as Poetry: A Case Study of Pak's Smart Contract-Based Protocol Art

Protocol art has recently proliferated through blockchain-based smart contracts, building on a century-long lineage of conceptual, participatory, interactive, systematic, algorithmic, and generative art practices. Few studies have examined the characteristics and appreciation of this emerging art form. To address this gap, this paper presents an annotated portfolio analysis of protocol artworks by Pak, a pioneering and influential pseudonymous artist who treats smart contracts as medium and collective participation through protocol as message. Tracing the evolution from early open-edition releases of The Fungible (2021) and the dynamic mechanics of Merge (2021) to the soul-bound messaging of Censored (2022) and the reflective absence of Not Found (2023), we examine how Pak choreographs distributed agency across collectors and autonomous code, demonstrating how programmable protocols become a social fabric in artistic meaning-making. Through thematic analysis of Pak's works, we identify seven core characteristics distinguishing protocol art from other art forms: (1) system-centric rather than object-centric composition, (2) autonomous governance enabling open-ended control, (3) distributed agency and communal authorship, (4) temporal dynamism and lifecycle aesthetics, (5) economy-driven engagement, (6) poetic message embedded in interaction rituals, and (7) interoperability enabling composability for emergent complexity. We then discuss how these features set protocol art apart from adjacent movements such as conceptual, generative, participatory, interactive, and performance art. By analyzing principles grounded in Pak's practice, we contribute to the emerging literature on protocol art (or "protocolism") and offer design implications for future artists exploring this evolving form.

Critical theory for crypto art: Exploring the impact of non-fungible tokens on the commodification of art in the digital age

The article explores non-fungible token (NFT) art as the ultimate form of commodification of art, thus positioning it as a potential ideal art form for capitalism. The article synthesizes theories from fields outside of art history, including critical theory, new materialism, and object-oriented ontology, to provide a comprehensive explanation for the rise of NFTs and their impact on the art world. By utilizing critical theory, power dynamics and hierarchies within a given context are analyzed, while new materialism and object-oriented ontology expand the scope of analysis to include non-human entities and their agency. These theoretical frameworks also provide insights into the material and ontological aspects of the NFT art phenomenon. The study's findings reveal the entanglement of digital assets with the social, economic, and technological dimensions of capitalism. This study aims to contribute to the ongoing debates surrounding the intersections of art and capitalism, while providing a theoretical foundation.
