The evolution of autonomous systems is reverberating through all industry sectors. Autonomous Industrial Systems represent the evolution of the current “Automated Industry,” towards systems that operate independently, supported by continuous edge decision making and learning. Beyond control, orchestration of complex industrial-level processes can enable large-scale decision making based on a continuous market and regulations signals: without a centralized operator, such processes can operate independently. Autonomy also extends to “Smart Infrastructures” that enable the smart detection and connectivity of constituents and their connections to support the edge processing and decentralized decision making. The self-organization characteristics of these systems shall drive the market towards more the large-scale deployment of both connecting infrastructures and industry. The cross-regulatory nature of these systems requires an orchestration approach for the provision of interdependent services from numerous operators along a supply chain. Therefore, the direction of future development lies in the growing autonomy of the economy and the evolving edge-driven digital connection of smart infrastructures, service production, and regulation of the resources and ecosystem on which the digital representation relies.

Logistic transport processes are highly distributed and often subject to disturbances, as they are embedded in dynamic environments that prohibit tight control, as many third-party actors and influences exist. Classical approaches for planning and controlling supply chains based on centralized architectures often encounter their limits managing processes at runtime, due to inherent latencies. Decentralized approaches promise a more robust and timely control. The project SOFiA strives to elevate the machines and objects themselves to smart objects, equipped with an understanding of processes and capable of independent decision-making, rather than a centralized server-based system. This paper discusses the project’s decentralized control architecture and the integration of semantic process models with event-discrete simulations as well as smart payment technology to provide an integrated solution for planning, controlling, monitoring and accounting of logistic processes.

This paper presents key characteristics of Web3 and how the traditional business model canvas (BMC) requires update to support managers in the Web3 industry. The characteristics of Web3 include Dapps, wallets, interoperability, tokenization, distributed ownership, decentralized communities, creator economy, and token economy. This study investigates how a business model in Web3 is different from the traditional BMC by Osterwalder and Pigneur (2010) based on a Delphi study with a panel of eight experts from the Web3 industry. The contribution of the research outlines a nascent Web3 business model canvas with seven building blocks, which are complemented by two overarching components specific to the nascent Web3 business models: value co-creation and value distribution. Furthermore, the model expands on the blocks of community and customer, tokenomics, and incentive and reward structures.

English Abstract: Blockchain is much more than bitcoins and offers benefits for many industries. Since the introduction of blockchain in 2009, the technology has been continuously developed. Nevertheless, discussions about blockchain applications are still heavily influenced by cryptocurrencies and, since 2021, also by so-called non-fungible tokens (NFT). The result: The confusion around blockchain and its potential is equally great. This study provides clarity and drills down to blockchain's benefits in the real economy. Opportunities and challenges are illustrated using three concrete examples: Self-sovereign (electronic) identities to securely identify people, organizations, and objects in the digital space Product tracking to increase product safety and transparency along supply chains Consolidation of sensitive (health) data to improve the quality of diagnosis and therapy without compromising data security Ultimately, blockchain offers a technical basis to securely digitize and automate business processes, collaborate efficiently, and create more robust digital infrastructures. Once achieved, new business areas can open up. Leaders must detach themselves from hype and sweeping criticism to realize this potential. This study aims to be a starting point to do so. A spectre is haunting private law-the spectre of the smart contract. We are told that its disruptive potential as a technological force will end the contract as we know it, heralding a new age of not just private law. Within the bounds of the smart contract, no humans beyond the contracting parties will need to be involved, thereby marking the long-promised mani festation of true justice.

In the last few years, we can observe a constantly increasing interest in systems and applications based on blockchain technology. Undoubtedly, this fact was significantly influenced by the introduction of the smart contracts mechanism that is one of the most popular features of blockchain nowadays and can be used across almost any industry. Smart contracts are programs stored on a blockchain that run when predetermined conditions are met. Since programming smart contracts is not trivial, this paper proposes a service that enables their creation by constructing diagrams from graphical blocks. The diagrams are then transformed into a smart contract code written in the Solidity language. The paper presents the general idea of the proposed service and selected use cases illustrating its application.
With blockchain technology as its foundation, the rise of Web3 and associated token economics promises unprecedented and fundamental changes in areas of ownership, governance, finance and engagement. The power of true ownership of digital assets, immutability and portability across worlds, platforms, and communities is changing how individuals and companies engage. Smart contracts enable new programmable commercial constructs which provide coded guarantees without the notion of a human guarantor. These powerful concepts of immutable record-keeping, true ownership, guaranteed transaction execution lay the foundation of the future of a Decentralized Customer Experience (DCX). This paradigm shift opens-up untapped opportunities and addressable markets in the CX space such as the empowerment of consumers in decentralized autonomous organizations, new business and commercial models, brand managemet & lifetime loyalty (aka. ‘super fan’), community-intrinsic marketing, and enablement & certification. This leads to industry-specific value cases and their monetization in healthcare, insurance, retail, consumer goods, and high-tech and the software industry. This article proposes the definition of a new market category called DCX unlocked by the impact of Web3 and blockchain technology onto the customer experience space and assesses new addressable markets spanning across almost any industry.
This paper aims at investigating the main factors behind advancing the integration of products and services in the Brazilian subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz (MBB), and how Smart PSS has been perceived by other business units of the Daimler Group. We conducted an in-depth qualitative single-case study research to investigate the critical steps preceding the implementation of a smart PSS. The study was based on the main tactical areas of a PSS business model which was applied to MBB’s possible integration of their equipment (called Fleetboard) in a smart PSS solution. The findings demonstrate that the internal culture of a product-centric automotive manufacturing firm can prohibit the sales of services, even when service technologies are available. On the other hand, financial pressures can create the sense of urgency required for the firm to appreciate the necessity of change. The process of change is too complex, since it requires capabilities in key areas such as the law, marketing, networking/partnerships, design, sustainability, and organisation and human resources management. Our study shows how the company considers alternative options in order to reduce organisational barriers, develop partnerships and legal competence to offer PSS contracts, as well as seeking alignment between design, marketing and sustainability requirements.
