Purpose Halal certification is an acknowledgment of the halalness of a product or service issued by a halal regulator based on Islamic law. This study aims to investigate the intentions of consumers and regulators toward blockchain-based halal certification. Blockchain is useful for storing and verifying halal certificates, thereby increasing trust in products or services because the public cannot change or access data once it is stored. Design/methodology/approach This study uses a triangulation approach by distributing online questionnaires to consumers as a research instrument of a quantitative approach processed with smart partial least squares. Meanwhile, the qualitative approach is carried out through observation, in-depth interviews with the Ministry of Religion’s Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) and Halal Examination Agency (LPH), and forum group discussions (FGDs) with several related parties. Findings The observation results show that most consumers expect the government to provide an easy-to-use application to check halal food products and restaurants. Consumers’ intention to use this technology is influenced directly by attitudes and indirectly by their beliefs. Furthermore, the results of interviews and FGDs reported that LPH was not ready to apply blockchain technology, while BPJPH strongly supported adopting blockchain technology in the certification process. Practical implications This finding recommends that the Indonesian government apply blockchain technology to gain transparency and accountability regarding the halal product process. Originality/value This study fills the research gap by observing three perspectives from different stakeholders and using a triangulation approach to analyze the need for adoption of blockchain-based halal certification of halal food products.
Cryptocurrencies have sparked intense debate within the global business and financial sectors. While promising substantial investment growth, they also present significant challenges, particularly concerning investor protection. In the context of Islamic business, the emergence of cryptocurrencies raises profound questions regarding compliance with Sharia principles and safeguarding investor interests. This article aims to scrutinize these issues from an Islamic business perspective, focusing on investor protection. Through a synthesis of literature and conceptual analysis, this study identifies several critical concerns. Firstly, it assesses the Sharia compliance of cryptocurrencies concerning their structure, transactions, and utility. Secondly, it examines risks associated with price volatility and the stability of investment values. Thirdly, it addresses the ambiguity in regulations and legal frameworks, impacting investor security and protection. Finally, it discusses the integration challenges of Islamic business ethics in the cryptocurrency landscape. The findings underscore that while cryptocurrencies offer potential for lucrative returns, they also entail substantial risks in terms of investor protection from an Islamic business standpoint. Consequently, there is a pressing need for robust regulatory frameworks that align with Sharia principles, alongside enhancing investor awareness and comprehension of cryptocurrency investment risks

Modern culture, which began to develop since the 18th century, became a catalyst for the growth of information technology systems, especially the internet, which has now reached the Web 3.0 or Web3 level. At this level, the internet becomes a decentralised space when users have complete autonomy and control over the data they share consensually. However, because it is a force steeped in exploitative and manipulative agendas, Web3 is potentially vulnerable to commodity fetishism and perhaps even a return to forms of domination through capital accumulation. As a result, elements in Web3 that were promoted as resistance to internet privatization have instead become opportunities for exploitative parties to accumulate wealth. This article delves deeper into how Web3 shows the tension between dominant currents and resistance to global multinational power systems. In this context, the authors use Antonio Negri’s perspective in Empire and Multitude to investigate the complex dynamics that occur. By understanding how Web3 interacts with dominant forces and their resistance, one can explore the potential and challenges faced in positioning the development of the internet towards a more inclusive and equitable realm.

The rapid growth of information technology, along with the increasing global digital economy and the public's need for reliable and secure payments, led to the invention of various digital currencies, including cryptocurrency. These currencies are based on the principles of supply and demand, with Bitcoin emerging as the leading crypto. This study aims to analyze the potential and challenges of using Bitcoin as a medium of exchange or commodity in Indonesia. Employing a qualitative approach, the study extensively explores library research methods, gathering data from various scholarly sources, including articles, books, and other relevant documents. The findings reveal that from an Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) perspective, electronic money is considered a legitimate transactional instrument, similar to physical currency. Any costs incurred during the top-up process are considered as wages or fees (ujrah). If Bitcoin were to attain currency status, it would be subject to regulation under currency exchange laws (al-sarf) and categorized as usury property (al-maal al-ribawi). However, due to the absence of regulatory oversight by Indonesian financial authorities, the use of Bitcoin as a medium of exchange or a commodity does not carry legal implications. This regulatory gap results in more disadvantages than advantages in its implementation.============================================================================================================ABSTRAK – Dari Fikih ke Keuangan: Mengases Status Bitcoin dalam Sistem Moneter Indonesia.
