ZKP-Based Audit for Blockchain Systems Managing Central Bank Digital Currency

Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) systems are being developed around the world and production solutions can be expected in the near future. Should a central bank allow handling of CBDC on a ledger that is not under its supervision (via platform bridging), it may wish to specify certain conformance requirements regarding the transactions. We propose a novel audit scheme based on Zero-Knowledge Proofs, which allows the operator of the bridged ledger to prove its compliance to such requirements, without revealing details about the transactions (such as the exact participants, the direction of the transfer, or the transferred value). This scheme aims to resolve the conflict between banks having to audit how CBDC is used on the bridged blockchain and consortia trying to keep sensitive data private.

DoS Attacks on Blockchain Ecosystem

Denial of Service (DoS) attacks are a growing threat in network services. The frequency and intensity of DoS attacks are rapidly increasing day by day. The immense financial potential of the Cryptocurrency market is a prevalent target of the DoS attack. The DoS attack events are kept on happening in cryptocurrencies and the blockchain ecosystem. To the best of our knowledge, there has not been any study on the DoS attack on the blockchain ecosystem. In this paper, we identify ten entities in the blockchain ecosystem and we scrutinize the DoS attacks on them. We also present the DoS mitigation techniques applicable to the blockchain services. Additionally, we propose a DoS mitigation technique by the use of verifiable delay function (VDF).

SOTF: Secure Organizational Transactions Framework Based on Bitcoin Payment Bridge

Bitcoin is a decentralized cryptocurrency where all the transactions are saved in a ledger. Blockchains have good features to be used in different finance applications by using smart contract. Also, blockchains are attractive platform for many industrial domains, including the logistics and supply chain industries. Supply chain technology contributes to record every single asset through its flow, tracking orders, receipts, and payments. There are several relay protocols proposed in previous research; these relay protocols are used to connect different types of blockchains. In this paper, we present a Secure Organizational Transactions Framework (SOTF) based on bridge chain to connect private chain or consortium with public chain which reduces interaction with public blockchain and saves the organization details privately in private chain or consortium. The proposed framework makes it possible for smart contract services to acquire means of payment in the consortium and private chain. Moreover, the proposed framework automates the process of updating the payment non-interactively. In this paper, we validate the communication between organizations blockchain and bitcoin, and find out the development cost of the proposed framework which ensures the efficiency and feasibility of the proposed framework. The code of framework implementation is publicly available at GitHub.

Blockchain Meets Covert Communication: A Survey

Covert communication enables covert information transmission in an undetectable way to prevent the exposure of communication behaviors. Blockchain-based covert communication breaks through the limitations on concealment, reliability and anti-traceability, and has shown promising application prospects in both sensitive data transmission and botnets. Although there are studies on blockchain-based covert communication, it still lacks a systematic investigation. In this paper, we conduct a comprehensive study on channel building and survey its core technologies by information embedding, transaction filtering, and transaction obfuscation. We also summarize evaluation metrics to better analyze blockchain-based covert channels. Privacy aspects are also discussed. Finally, we suggest seven future directions to stir research efforts into this area.

A Secure and Privacy Preserved Parking Recommender System Using Elliptic Curve Cryptography and Local Differential Privacy

The privacy preservation has received considerable attention from organizations as the growing population is apprehensive regarding personal data being preserved.There are several privacy and security issues in existing systems, such as identity and location disclosure, availability, and authenticity. Smart parking systems utilize third-party parking recommender systems to offer customized parking space recommendations to its users based on user’s past parking experience. However, indiscriminately sharing a user’s data with a third party recommendation system may violate their personal information because their activity and node mobility can be deduced from their previous paring experience. Another problem with existing solutions is that most distributed systems need a third party to anonymize user data to preserve the user’s privacy. Therefore, this article provides three solutions that address the problems mentioned above; at first, based on elliptic curve cryptography (ECC), we proposed the mutual authentication mechanism using HMAC to provide anonymity and integrity during communication; secondly, given the risks to security and privacy posed by untrustworthy third parties, we used local differential privacy, which uses the Laplace distribution technique to add noise randomly and eliminates any necessity for a third party for data perturbation. And thirdly, in addition to LDP , we utilize the IOTA distributed ledger technology to provide a new level of security that ensures immutability, scalability, and quantum secrecy and decentralized the system. Our experiments demonstrate that, in addition to preserving the driver’s privacy and security, our proposed model has low storage overheads, computation, and communication costs.

Analysis of Blockchain Solutions for E-Voting: A Systematic Literature Review

Today, the abstention rate continues to rise, largely due to the need to travel to vote. This is why remote e-voting will increase the turnout by allowing everyone to vote without the need to travel. It will also minimize the risks and obtain results in a faster way compablack to a traditional vote with paper ballots. In fact, given the high stakes of an election, a remote e-voting solution must meet the highest standards of security, reliability, and transparency to gain the trust of citizens. In literature, several remote e-voting solutions based on blockchain technology have been proposed. Indeed, the blockchain technology is proposed today as a new technical infrastructure for several types of IT applications because it allows to remove the TTP and decentralize transactions while offering a transparent and fully protected data storage. In addition, it allows to implement in its environment the smart-contracts technology which is used to automate and execute agreements between users. In this paper, we are interested in reviewing the most revealing e-voting solutions based on blockchain technology.

Blockchain-Enabled Digital Rights Management for Museum-Digital Property Rights

With the rapid development of digitization technology, digital copyright of museum has become more and more valuable. Its collections can be opened to and shared with the people through the Internet. However, centralized authorization, untransparent transaction information and risk of tampering data in traditional digital rights management have a strong impact on system normal operation. In this paper, we proposed a blockchain-based digital rights management scheme (BMDRM) that realizes a distributed digital rights management and authorization system by introducing non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and smart contracts. To ensure the security and efficiency of transactions and authorization, we store all processing data in a high-security distributed ledger based on cryptographic signatures. We test our scheme on Ethereum private network and the experimental results show that BMDRM is feasible and secure for digital rights management in museums.

Toward Achieving Anonymous NFT Trading

With the rapid development of Non-Fungible Token (NFT) market, various types of digital artwork are published via NFT in recent years for sale. In the current NFT system, owner’s address of each NFT is stored in plaintext. This leads to a severe privacy problem: once a person’s blockchain address is known, all his NFT assets are viewable, which may further cause problems related to the privacy of holding sensitive NFT or premeditated scams to high-value NFT owners. However, due to the limitation of Ethereum and smart contract, it is hard to prevent others from tracking the owner of NFT. Meanwhile, current state-of-the-art NFT research usually assumes the relation between blockchain address and owner’s identity is unknown, thus creating theso-called anonymity. In this paper, based on the most popular NFT marketplace OpenSea’s system, we propose a new exchange scheme to hides the address of NFT owner during trading. To achieve our goal, a proof of commitment scheme is exploited to bind the owner to an NFT while hiding the identity. Moreover, An anonymous payment method is designed to prevent attackers from tracing the Ether flow in NFT trading. Our scheme is proven to be secure against curious users and malicious active attackers. Implementation on testnet also shows that the increased gas cost is acceptable, meaning it is suitable for application.

Incorporating Registration, Reputation, and Incentivization Into the NFT Ecosystem

Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) have recently received immense popularity in the digital art industry. An NFT represents ownership of a unique item that is stored on the blockchain and cannot be changed, replaced, and copied. The current NFT ecosystem falls short in trust features and is prone to illegitimate users, threats, and vulnerabilities. In this paper, we propose a blockchain-based solution for the NFT ecosystem that incorporates registration of the participating actors, involves a decentralized reputation system, provides incentives to its users through rewards, and penalizes misconduct. Our system design is built to ensure trust and credibility in the NFT ecosystem. The proposed solution leverages blockchain’s intrinsic security features such as transparency, tamper-proof logs, data integrity, accountability, and non-repudiation. We use the decentralized storage of the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) to store the NFTs’ metadata, whereas their hash is stored on the chain. We present algorithms along with their implementation, testing, and validation details. We demonstrate how our solution, as well as smart contract code, is secure enough against common security threats and attacks. We make our smart contract code publicly available on the GitHub repository.

Non-fungible tokens (NFTS) and their security challenges

The Non-Fungible Token (NFT) market has been exploding in the past years. The notion of NFT originated with Ethereum's token standard, which aimed to differentiate each token using distinguishing signals. Tokens of this type can be associated with virtual or digital properties to serve as unique identifiers. Using NFTs Non-Fungible Token (NFT) is a new technology gaining traction in the Blockchain industry. In this article, we examine state-of the art NFT systems that have the potential to reshape the market for digital virtual assets. We will assess the security of existing NFT systems and expand on the opportunities and prospective uses for the NFT idea. Finally, we discuss existing research challenges that must be overcome before mass-market penetration may occur. We hope that this paper provides an up-to-date analysis and summary of existing and proposed solutions and projects, making it easier for newcomers to stay current.
