Use of technical analysis in the cryptocurrency market

Štěpán BOROVKA

This thesis focuses on utilizing technical analysis in the cryptocurrency market, specifically creating a personal trading strategy using principles and procedures of technical analysis. An important aspect of creating a strategy is defining the conditions for entering and exiting trades. The created strategy was backtested over a selected period on the Bitcoin market, evaluated for its success, and compared to the market's return for the same period. The evaluation revealed that the strategy was profitable over the selected period on the Bitcoin market. However, the market's return during that time was significantly higher than the return on the trading strategy. On the other hand, the market also experienced a significantly higher maximum drawdown, which is a crucial metric for trading. It can be concluded that, with the implementation of the recommendations included at the end of the thesis, this trading strategy can be used for trading in real market conditions on the Bitcoin market or other volatile markets.

Providing a Model for Marketing in Cryptocurrency Exchange Businesses in Iran

Vahid Nasehifar, Zohreh Dehdashti Shahrokh, Mohammad Saleh Torkestani, Amin Zarbakhsh

The emergence and expansion of the cryptocurrency market in the past decade, along with the development of Iranian cryptocurrency exchanges, necessitates the creation of native business models for effective marketing. This study aims to provide a comprehensive marketing model for the Iranian cryptocurrency exchange industry. Employing a mixed-method approach (qualitative-quantitative), the research uses semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis, combined with interpretive structural modeling. The analysis identified 42 themes categorized into 12 groups: industry characteristics, customer characteristics, investment incentives, impact of Iran's legal environment, macro marketing strategy, customer knowledge enhancement, trust-building, pricing strategy, product strategy, marketing channels, marketing tools, and customer retention activities. These categories were structured into an eight-level model, serving as the proposed marketing framework for the industry. The findings emphasize the importance of integrating industry, customer, and legal environment characteristics in formulating cohesive marketing strategies, trust-building, and knowledge enhancement, alongside utilizing the most appropriate marketing tools. The research highlights the necessity of developing strategies for customer retention and investment encouragement, which are critical components of the marketing model. This study contributes to the systematic knowledge in the field and offers a deep understanding of essential marketing elements for researchers and practitioners in the cryptocurrency sector.

Crypto-Asset Market Abuse Under EU MiCA

Mikołaj Barczentewicz, André de Gândara Gomes

Abstract The new EU Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (“MiCA”) emphasises the prevention of market abuse as one of its five main objectives. This paper critically analyzes MiCA’s provisions on market abuse (Title VI), applying the new rules to the primary categories of crypto-asset market integrity risks to provide a coherent interpretation. In doing so, we consider both the pre-existing legal framework for protecting market integrity, chiefly the Market Abuse Regulation (“MAR”), and the unique features of crypto-asset markets. We find that by largely replicating MAR, MiCA presents “new wine in old bottles” challenges, as crypto-assets introduce novel issues that the legislator attempts to address with a subset of existing tools. The extent to which “decentralized finance” (DeFi) activities will incur liability under MiCA’s anti-market abuse provisions remains unclear, particularly regarding various blockchain network participants. Furthermore, classifying MEV strategies as market abuse may prove difficult. The absence of certain safe-harbor provisions present in MAR, such as those for self-insiders and buy-back and stabilisation schemes, may create uncertainty and potentially chill legitimate market behavior under MiCA.

AntFuzzer: A Grey-Box Fuzzing Framework for EOSIO Smart Contracts

Jiahao He, Jianfei Zhou, Peicheng Miao, Yongjie Zhang · 8 authors

In the past few years, several attacks against the vulnerabilities of EOSIO smart contracts have caused severe financial losses to this prevalent blockchain platform. As a lightweight test-generation approach, grey-box fuzzing can open up the possibility of improving the security of EOSIO smart contracts. However, developing a practical grey-box fuzzer for EOSIO smart contracts from scratch is time-consuming and requires a deep understanding of EOSIO internals. In this work, we proposed AntFuzzer, the first highly extensible grey-box fuzzing framework for EOSIO smart contracts. AntFuzzer implements a novel approach that interfaces AFL to conduct AFL-style grey-box fuzzing on EOSIO smart contracts. Compared to black-box fuzzing tools, AntFuzzer can effectively trigger those hard-to-cover branches. It achieved an improvement in code coverage on 37.5% of smart contracts in our benchmark dataset. AntFuzzer provides unified interfaces for users to easily develop new detection plugins for continually emerging vulnerabilities. We have implemented 6 detection plugins on AntFuzzer to detect major vulnerabilities of EOSIO smart contracts. In our large-scale fuzzing experiments on 4,616 real-world smart contracts, AntFuzzer successfully detected 741 vulnerabilities. The results demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of AntFuzzer and our detection pl

Smart Contract Design via Modeling Environment: A proposal based on DasContract DSL

Cristóbal Marinkovic, Julio López Fenner, Óscar Ancán, Carlos Cares

Smart contracts are contracts made of executable code running on Blockchain platforms. DasContract was introduced in 2019-2020 as a domain-specific language (DSL) for smart contract modeling with the ability to generate code in a programming language (Solidity), yet its environment exhibits various limitations, both in technical and design aspects. In this work, we propose a user interface with improved usability that includes tools for syntax verification, develop a software prototype, demonstrate its usage with a case study, and identify future lines of research.

Examining the Impact of COVID-19 on Cryptocurrency Enforcement in the United States

Leo S. F. Lin

This chapter examines how COVID-19 has impacted cryptocurrency enforcement at the state level. This author employs a qualitative single case study method and investigates the cryptocurrency enforcement actions of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in 2020. The data were collected from SEC cryptocurrency press releases and public statements. The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has brought 28 enforcement actions against companies and individuals in the crypto industry in 2020 regarding the three types of cryptocurrency enforcement actions and trading suspensions (trading suspension, litigation, and administrative proceeding). Among them, litigation is the most common type of cryptocurrency enforcement action taken by the SEC. This author concludes that the law enforcement agencies in the United States faced several challenges before and during the pandemic. Finally, the author suggests some measures that law enforcement agencies can take to address the above challenges.

Crypto Securities and Other Digital Assets: Aspects of Substantive and Regulatory Law

Kuhn Hans, Löber Klaus

Abstract This chapter reviews the dematerialization of securities that has been the dominant topic in securities law and regulation since the paper crunch in the late 1960s. It discusses common issues in the substantive legal framework for digital securities, including an overview over the regulation of digital securities. It also talks about the blockchain or distributed ledger technology (DLT), which refers to a group of technologies that have a database that is shared across a network of multiple sites and participants within a network that have their own identical copy of the ledger. The chapter looks at the security and accuracy of the assets stored in the ledger that are maintained by using crypto technologies. It refers to blockchain as one of the several possible data structures in a DLT system that is characterized by the fact that its entries are combined in blocks.

Records of book-entry securities

Jan Papajanovský

Records of book-entry securities Abstract The topic of this thesis is the registration of book-entry securities, especially with re- gard to new technologies for keeping such records, such as distributed ledger technology (DLT). The first chapter briefly describes how this technology works and how it has helped to overcome the long intractable problem of decentralised databases, the so-called double- spending issue. The following chapter then deals with the characteristics of the products (fi- nancial and otherwise) embedded in DLT technology, collectively usually referred to as cryp- to-assets. These are generally divided into cryptocurrencies, property or investment tokens, which may correspond in their characteristics to certain types of securities, and utility tokens. In the third part of the thesis, the existing legal regulation of book-entry securities in Czech and European law is analysed in detail, and the regulations of private and public law are discussed with regard to possible interpretative ambiguities and potential disputes. The key point is the assessment of the legal consequences of issuing a book-entry security in vio- lation of the public law requirements for registration with a central depository and the ques- tion of the autonomy of the concept of a security in European financial market...

Fördelarna, möjligheterna och utmaningarna med decentraliserade finansiella tjänster

Roiha, Ville

Blockchains have become a popular subject during the last couple of years. They have evolved from transaction ledgers to platforms that can host various types of applications ranging from financial services to gaming. The decentralized financial applications have been some of the most popular on the Ethereum blockchain and these applications provide services ranging from lending to asset management. Decentralized finance is still a quite new phenomenon, and the current theory about decentralized finance is still quite limited. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the potential benefits and risks of decentralized financial application on the Ethereum blockchain. This will be conducted by analyzing the empirical data collected through semi-structured interviews. The data was collected from Finnish professionals who are directly in contact with some parts of these decentralized financial applications. The topics discussed revolve around implementation and adoption of these applications on a larger scale. As well as the benefits, risks and possibilities of decentralized finance. The topic of regulation is also discussed. The results of the interviews give a comprehensive view of the risks, benefits and possibilities of decentralized finance. The benefits of decentralized finance are associated with increased efficiency in transactions as well as in the fact that it is permissionless. The greatest current risks according to the data are technical ones. Exploits and bugs are still a major concern on these platforms. The most likely outcome for decentralized finance according to the data is that it will continue to grow and become a larger part of the global financial system.

Margin Trading in the Cryptocurrency Market

Cryptocurrencies as an Alternative Investment

Naime proof of work sustav zahtijeva potrošnju velike količine električne energije ali i angažiranje značajne računalne opreme, dok proof of stake sustav nastoji te troškove umanjiti.

Choice of Law in the Shifting Sands of Securities Trading

Maisie Ooi

In this essay, the author examines how the conflict of laws has approached the task of determining the law applicable to issues relating to securities, and whether that approach is suitable for determining the law applicable to the proprietary aspects of securities created or traded through the use of distributed ledger technology (DLT), including cryptosecurities, and other new forms of securities holding and trading.
