Blockchain‐based reliable image copyright protection

Abstract The indiscriminate distribution of a large number of unlicensed images through the Internet seriously harms the benefits of image owners, which prompts the study of image copyright protection solutions. Existing blockchain‐free solutions are limited to using centralized servers to store copyright information, leaving data vulnerable to being lost or tampered with by external attacks. Although the blockchain‐based image copyright protection solutions are capable of addressing the above problem, improvements are needed in choosing a suitable blockchain platform and supporting integrated copyright life cycle management. To this end, this paper designs a blockchain‐based reliable image copyright protection system named BB‐RICP using Hyperledger Fabric. For one thing, the adoption of Fabric mitigates the limitations of other blockchain platforms represented by Ethereum in terms of efficiency, economy, and availability. For another, BB‐RICP successes in achieving integrated copyright lifecycle management. In addition, BB‐RICP achieves enhanced applicability performance by firstly introducing GM algorithms recommended by Chinese national standard and adapting the more consortium blockchain‐oriented practical byzantine fault tolerance algorithm. Moreover, the adoption of spread spectrum watermarking brings convenience to users. Finally, Kubernetes is used to assist in the simulation of BB‐RICP to verify that users can operate reliably in the blockchain network.

Post Quantum Lattice-Based Secure Framework using Aggregate Signature for Ambient Intelligence Assisted Blockchain-Based IoT Applications

Many classical cryptographic techniques are breakable due to the quantum computing security threats, and it leads to design public key cryptography based on post-quantum cryptography primitives and security protocols. In recent years, Lattice-Based Cryptography (LBC) becomes a prominent post-quantum cryptographic primitive that can be applied in both traditional and emerging security domains, including encryption, key agreement, digital signature and homomorphic encryption. In this article, we first provide a LBC-based security framework using aggregate signature that can be applied in ambient intelligence-assisted blockchain-based Internet of Things (IoT) applications, called LAS-AIBIoT. In LAS-AIBIoT, the wearable/medical devices deployed in the patients' body securely send the sensing secret data (encrypted messages) with their respective lattice-based signatures to their nearby controller nodes (CN), where the CNs forward these secret messages to the attached aggregator node (Aggr). Each Aggr verifies the individual signature of the devices and constructs the aggregate signature on the received secret messages and signatures, and sends the aggregated secret messages with their aggregate signature to the cloud server(s) for block construction in the blockchain center. Through the consensus protocol, the block is then mined and added into the blokchain. We show the robustness of LAS-AIBIoT against various potential attacks including quantum computing security threats through the threat model discussed in this article. Finally, through the blockchain-based simulation study we show that LAS-AIBIoT can be applied for real-time ambient intelligence-assisted IoT applications.

Non-Fungible Tokens: A Review

Non Fungible Tokens (NFTs) are among the most promising technologies that have emerged in recent years. NFTs enable the efficient verification and ownership management of digital assets and therefore, offer the means to secure them. NFT is similar to blockchain that was first used by the cryptocurrency and then by numerous other technologies. At first, the NFT concept attracted the attention of the digital art community. However, NFT has the potential to enable a plethora of different applications and sce We present a review of the NFT technology. We describe the basic components of NFTs and how NFTs work. Then, we present and discuss the different applications of the NFTs. Finally, we discuss various challenges that the NFT technology must address in the future.

Secure Data Transfer Based on a Multi-Level Blockchain for Internet of Vehicles

Because of the decentralized trait of the blockchain and the Internet of vehicles, both are very suitable for the architecture of the other. This study proposes a multi-level blockchain framework to secure information security on the Internet of vehicles. The main motivation of this study is to propose a new transaction block and ensure the identity of traders and the non-repudiation of transactions through the elliptic curve digital signature algorithm ECDSA. The designed multi-level blockchain architecture distributes the operations within the intra_cluster blockchain and the inter_cluster blockchain to improve the efficiency of the entire block. On the cloud computing platform, we exploit the threshold key management protocol, and the system can recover the system key as long as the threshold partial key is collected. This avoids the occurrence of PKI single-point failure. Thus, the proposed architecture ensures the security of OBU-RSU-BS-VM. The proposed multi-level blockchain framework consists of a block, intra-cluster blockchain and inter-cluster blockchain. The roadside unit RSU is responsible for the communication of vehicles in the vicinity, similar to a cluster head on the Internet of vehicles. This study exploits RSU to manage the block, and the base station is responsible for managing the intra-cluster blockchain named intra_clusterBC, and the cloud server at the back end is responsible for the entire system blockchain named inter_clusterBC. Finally, RSU, base stations and cloud servers cooperatively construct the multi-level blockchain framework and improve the security and the efficiency of the operation of the blockchain. Overall, in order to protect the security of the transaction data of the blockchain, we propose a new transaction block structure and adopt the elliptic curve cryptographic signature ECDSA to ensure that the Merkle tree root value is not changed and also make sure the transaction identity and non-repudiation of transaction data. Finally, this study considers information security in a cloud environment, and therefore we propose a secret-sharing and secure-map-reducing architecture based on the identity confirmation scheme. The proposed scheme with decentralization is very suitable for distributed connected vehicles and can also improve the execution efficiency of the blockchain.

Secure Online Voting System Using Blockchain

In large democracy like India with about 83.4 crore voters it is estimated that about 50,000 crore rupees is spent on election and it takes about 6 weeks to conduct election. So the approach of election followed in India is costly both in terms of time and money. In order to reduce the cost of time and money, in last few decades numerous methods have already been developed and one of them is to use online voting system that providers the comfort of voting from remote location. But traditional online system has its own drawbacks like data tampering, privacy breach, etc. Blockchain technology is proposed, that incorporates cryptographic properties. Blockchain technology is simply defined as a decentralized, distributed ledger that maintains the provenance of a digital asset and is considered to be utmost secure. To avoid single point of failure, two step authentication process is used which include OTP verification and Biometric authentication. To ensure the anonymity of the votes, Identity-based ring signature scheme is used.

NFT Image Plagiarism Check Using EfficientNet-Based Deep Neural Network with Triplet Semi-Hard Loss

Blockchain technology is used to support digital assets such as cryptocurrencies and tokens. Commonly, smart contracts are used to generate tokens on top of the blockchain network. There are two fundamental types of tokens: fungible and non-fungible (NFTs). This paper focuses on NFTs and offers a technique to spot plagiarism in NFT images. NFTs are information that is appended to files to produce distinctive signatures. It can be found in image files, real artifacts, literature published online, and various other digital media. Plagiarism and fraudulent NFT images are becoming a big concern for artists and customers. This paper proposes an efficient deep learning-based approach for NFT image plagiarism detection using the EfficientNet-B0 architecture and the Triplet Semi-Hard Loss function. We trained our model using a dataset of NFT images and evaluated its performance using several metrics, including loss and accuracy. The results showed that the EfficientNet-B0-based deep neural network with triplet semi-hard loss outperformed other models such as Resnet50, DenseNet, and MobileNetV2 in detecting plagiarized NFTs. The experimental results demonstrate sufficient to be implemented in various NFT marketplaces.

The holy scriptures are the foundation of religion, civilization, and society. They strengthen a society's ethics and ideals. "Shastras" are Indian scriptures. Most of the important Shastras of ancient Indian civilization were destroyed by invaders, and the remaining Shastras are either too complex to understand or have been misinterpreted. Shastras must be preserved for society's ethics and wealth. Using blockchain to store vast volumes of data is efficient since the network grows stretched. Cloud storage uses attribute-based encryption to preserve security. In such systems, a private key generator can decrypt data, which can cause serious issues. The cloud is centralized; therefore, a failure can bring it down, whereas decentralized storage can avoid this. The Interplanetary File System (IPFS) overcomes the restrictions of cloud storage and blockchain when handling sensitive data. In the paper, a solution has been proposed for storing and sharing data in a decentralized way and combining IPFS with the Ethereum blockchain to create a platform where secured storage and translations of Shastras can be provided. The proposed framework is used for storing files to identify text using Web scraping, later translating the text using Natural Language Processing (NLP) and sharing the translated version of the file on the framework so that it can be easily accessed by the user as per the requirement. The proposal is evaluated with the help of IPFS, which provides a platform to store files, generate a hash value, and remove duplication as it uses content-addressing.

A Blockchain-Based Copyright Protection Scheme With Proactive Defense

Copyright protection, including copyright registration, copyright transfer and infringement penalty, plays a critical role in preventing illegal usage of original works. The mainstream traditional copyright protection schemes need an authority online all the time to handle copyright issues and face some problems such as intricate copyright transfer, single point of failure and so on. To alleviate the burden of the authority, a few blockchain-based copyright protection schemes are proposed. However, most of them do not consider copyright transfer, and their infringement penalty may only happen after copyright owners discover the infringement behavior (i.e., “ex-post penalty”). In this article, we propose a new security strategy, called “Proactive Defense” in copyright protection which can prevent infringement before it occurs. With our proposed proactive defense strategy, we design a secure copyright protection scheme which provides advantages of compact copyright transfer and prior infringement penalty. More concrete, both copyright registration and transfer are regarded as transactions and recorded to the blockchain. Based on the double-authentication-prevention signature and non-interactive zero-knowledge proof techniques, illegal copyright transfer can be detected and the infringement penalty can be done automatically with a tailored smart contract before the completion of the transfer. Our security analysis shows that the proposed scheme can achieve all desirable security properties. Moreover, we implement our scheme in Java and evaluate the performance experimentally. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme has good security and efficiency, which can be applied for the copyright protection.

Web Photo Source Identification based on Neural Enhanced Camera Fingerprint

With the growing popularity of smartphone photography in recent years, web photos play an increasingly important role in all walks of life. Source camera identification of web photos aims to establish a reliable linkage from the captured images to their source cameras, and has a broad range of applications, such as image copyright protection, user authentication, investigated evidence verification, etc. This paper presents an innovative and practical source identification framework that employs neural-network enhanced sensor pattern noise to trace back web photos efficiently while ensuring security. Our proposed framework consists of three main stages: initial device fingerprint registration, fingerprint extraction and cryptographic connection establishment while taking photos, and connection verification between photos and source devices. By incorporating metric learning and frequency consistency into the deep network design, our proposed fingerprint extraction algorithm achieves state-of-the-art performance on modern smartphone photos for reliable source identification. Meanwhile, we also propose several optimization sub-modules to prevent fingerprint leakage and improve accuracy and efficiency. Finally for practical system design, two cryptographic schemes are introduced to reliably identify the correlation between registered fingerprint and verified photo fingerprint, i.e. fuzzy extractor and zero-knowledge proof (ZKP). The codes for fingerprint extraction network and benchmark dataset with modern smartphone cameras photos are all publicly available at https://github.com/PhotoNecf/PhotoNecf 1.

A Survey on Consensus Protocols and Attacks on Blockchain Technology

In the current era, blockchain has approximately 30 consensus algorithms. This architecturally distributed database stores data in an encrypted form with multiple checks, including elliptical curve cryptography (ECC) and Merkle hash tree. Additionally, many researchers aim to implement a public key infrastructure (PKI) cryptography mechanism to boost the security of blockchain-based data management. However, the issue is that many of these are required for advanced cryptographic protocols. For all consensus protocols, security features are required to be discussed because these consensus algorithms have recently been attacked by address resolution protocols (ARP), distributed denial of service attacks (DDoS), and sharding attacks in a permission-less blockchain. The existence of a byzantine adversary is perilous, and is involved in these ongoing attacks. Considering the above issues, we conducted an informative survey based on the consensus protocol attack on blockchain through the latest published article from IEEE, Springer, Elsevier, ACM, Willy, Hindawi, and other publishers. We incorporate various methods involved in blockchain. Our main intention is to gain clarity from earlier published articles to elaborate numerous key methods in terms of a survey article.

Mjolnir : Breaking the Glass in a Publicly Verifiable Yet Private Manner

This paper formally investigates the problem of unauthorized yet required access to electronically protected information, a.k.a. Break-the-Glass (BtG) access. Reflecting on the rising deployment of such protocols in the current digitized healthcare system, we present Mjolnir, a blockchain-based BtG framework that offers accountability of unauthorized accesses by healthcare practitioners, dependable right of notification to patients, and privacy of healthcare records accesses. Mjolnir is a smart contract-based protocol which provides undisputed public verifiability of the identity of BtG access entities while maintaining their anonymity except from concerned individual patients, hence protecting the patients’ privacy. We employ an application specific non-interactive cryptographic zero knowledge proof system which ensures that the signing entity (healthcare practitioner) belongs to a given authorized group and that the anonymity of their identity is only revocable by a given opening entity (patient). The security of our system relies on the hardness of the discrete logarithm and decisional Diffie–Hellman problems in elliptic curve groups, and the utilized proof system requires no trusted setup. We formally define and prove the security goals of Mjolnir, provide a proof of concept blockchain implementation on Ethereum, and report on performance experiments and comparisons with other generic zero knowledge proof systems.

In recent times, various forms of crime have been happening worldwide.The law-and-order department of any country officially records a crime in electronic forms or on paper when the crime is reported by a victim or someone on behalf of the victim.The document that is prepared to file any perceptible committed crimes including dowry, kidnap, murder, rape, theft, and others is called First Information Report(FIR).Nowadays, online FIR also known as e-FIR has been used worldwide.Every day a number of e-FIR are filed, and they are maintained in a centralized database with the aid of third-party trust.Consequently, malicious entities including insiders and outsiders' dishonest personnel, and third-party authorities may tamper with e-FIR that questions the transparency and integrity of FIR reports.To address this exposure, in this paper, we propose a blockchain based FIR system to store all kinds of offense-related records to assure security, fidelity and privacy of FIR records.In this proposed system, the blockchain technology that refers to a decentralized and distributed ledger across peer-to-peer networks continually updates the shared ledger and strictly maintains synchronization among all network nodes.Though blockchain technology guarantees tamper-proof of the data, it cannot store a large amount of data due to the replication of ledger among all network nodes.To solve this issue, we adopt the Inter-Planetary File system (IPFS) protocol to store data in the blockchain.IPFS is a distributed file-sharing system that can be leveraged to store and share large files.The blockchain based FIR system has been tested on an Ethereum environment using blockchain and IPFS technology.

CCIO: A Cross-Chain Interoperability Approach for Consortium Blockchains Based on Oracle

Cross-chain interoperability can expand the ability of data interaction and value circulation between different blockchains, especially the value interaction and information sharing between industry consortium blockchains. However, some current public blockchain cross-chain technologies or data migration schemes between consortium blockchains need help to meet the consortium blockchain requirements for efficient two-way data interaction. The critical issue to solve in cross-chain technology is improving the efficiency of cross-chain exchange while ensuring the security of data transmission outside the consortium blockchain. In this article, we design a cross-chain architecture based on blockchain oracle technology. Then, we propose a bidirectional information cross-chain interaction approach (CCIO) based on the former architecture, we novelly improve three traditional blockchain oracle patterns, and we combine a mixture of symmetric and asymmetric keys to encrypt private information to ensure cross-chain data security. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed CCIO approach can achieve efficient and secure two-way cross-chain data interactions and better meet the application needs of large-scale consortium blockchains.

Automatic Patch Generation System for Smart Contract

Smart contract is a computer program running on the blockchain to automatically execute the contract terms without supervision. However, the vulnerability of smart contracts often causes massive property losses to users. SolSaviour is a framework for repairing and recovering vulnerabilities from deployed smart contracts. Thus, we design a set of automatic patch generation system APG within the SolSaviour framework, which solves the security problem of patches applied by SolSaviour and enhances the protection function of SolSaviour for smart contracts. APG consists of two existing frameworks: Slither and EVMPatch. Through comparative analysis, the improved SolSaviour by APG has higher security.

HADES: Hash-Based Audio Copy Detection System for Copyright Protection in Decentralized Music Sharing

Preventive measures to stop copyright infringement are yet to be implemented on current decentralized music-sharing platforms. There is no mechanism to reject modified audio before they go online, so some decentralized music platforms become places full of pirated audio files. To address this problem, a perceptual hash-based audio detection method for copyright protection in decentralized music sharing was proposed. Chromaprint, an open-source audio fingerprint program, generates a hash value to detect copyright infringement. To assess the perceptual hash technique’s robustness, Chromaprint generates a hash value from an audio file that can be modified with several signal processing attacks. The results of the detection system show that Chromaprint is very effective at spotting copyright infringement, with an average match rate of 92.64%. Deployed using a public Ethereum blockchain test network, the execution time from hashing to uploading to the IPFS distributed storage is only 616.3 ms.

In fact, there are many cryptographic primitives used in blockchain, such as hash, digital signature, and etc. Moreover, digital signature not only uses standard digital signature, but also uses ring signature, connectable ring signature, one-time signature, borromer ring signature, multi signature, homomorphic encryption, homomorphic commitment, accumulator, zero knowledge proof, etc. As well as the recently popular password signature toss. As mentioned above, the popularity of blockchain technology will completely break the centralized pattern, indicating the advent of a new era in the future - Web3.0. This paper focuses on the application of encryption technology in blockchain and expounds in detail the applications of such as hash function and ring signature in blockchain. This study analyzes the application of cryptography in blockchain and discusses to the development of encryption technology in the future.

Empowering Authenticated and Efficient Queries for STK Transaction-Based Blockchains

Owing to the attractive properties of decentralization, unforgeability, transparency, and traceability, blockchain is increasingly being used in various scenarios such as supply chain and public services, where massive Spatial-Temporal-Keywords (STK) transactions need to be packaged. However, due to the multi-dimensionality and randomness of STK transactions, existing solutions fail to enable queries in a verifiable and efficient way for blockchains storing multidimensional transactions. To this end, this article takes the first step to propose an authenticated and efficient query approach in hybrid blockchain systems consisting of on-chain and off-chain parts. We first design a data structure named MRK-Tree in the block body, which organizes STK transactions for efficient nodes pruning of both kNN and range queries. Then we propose an improved block header, which improves the efficient pruning of blocks on the basis of ensuring the authentication of query results. Also, we design a cross-block searching algorithm named Efficient Block Pruning (EBP) and intra-block searching algorithms named Authenticated kNN/Range Query (AKQ/ARQ) to accelerate authenticated queries for multiple MRK-Trees in the hybrid blockchain systems. Authentication mechanisms are proposed to ensure the soundness and completeness of query results. Rigorous security analysis validates the practicability of the proposed approach. We build a blockchain prototype to comprehensively evaluate the performance of proposed query schemes. Extensive evaluation results with real datasets reveal that our approach can ensure authenticated queries, meanwhile improving the time efficiency by up to 36.45x and space efficiency by up to 4 orders of magnitude compared with the well-known benchmark query schemes.

A Blockchain Covert Communication Method Based on Voting Contract

In order to meet the increasing demand for information transmission with high confidentiality, it is important to propose new covert communication methods. The performance of covert communication technology includes security and hiding rate. At the same time, blockchain technology is characterized by decentralization, anonymity and traceability, and is a natural hidden communication carrier. Ethereum is one of the classic and commonly used blockchain currency applications. Therefore, this paper uses the voting contract in Ethereum smart contract to build a hidden channel based on the blockchain, and encodes information through different options in the voting contract. In addition, we analyze the channel from security, scalability and cost.
