Diagrams as Visual Knowledge Communication Tools in Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Education

This research investigates the use of diverse visual knowledge communication tools in the multidisciplinary training produced in the BC4ECO project. During this project, teaching and learning content was developed to enable postgraduate learners to utilise blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) to solve complex, real-world problems related to environmental sustainability. We examine how visual modelling techniques enhance comprehension across disciplines and facilitate interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaboration, particularly for learners who may not have prior programming or computer science knowledge. Findings suggest that using these tools leads to enhanced collaboration between computer scientists and non-computer scientists and aids in the facilitation of joint problem solving between seemingly disparate disciplines. Additionally, the study highlights how the use of tools for established software engineering modelling, like Visual Paradigm for UML, bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical implementation, strengthening problem solving skills and improving software development education.

Disorder unleashes panic in bitcoin dynamics

Abstract The behaviour of Bitcoin owners is reflected in the structure and the number of bitcoin transactions encoded in the Blockchain. Likewise, the behaviour of Bitcoin traders is reflected in the formation of bullish and bearish trends in the crypto market. In light of these observations, we wonder if human behaviour underlies some relationship between the Blockchain and the crypto market. To address this question, we map the Blockchain to a spin-lattice problem, whose configurations form ordered and disordered patterns, representing the behaviour of Bitcoin owners. This novel approach allows us to obtain time series suitable to detect a causal relationship between the dynamics of the Blockchain and market trends of the Bitcoin and to find that disordered patterns in the Blockchain precede Bitcoin panic selling. Our results suggest that human behaviour underlying Blockchain evolution and the crypto market brings out a fascinating connection between disorder and panic in Bitcoin dynamics.

Blockchain grammars: designing with DAOS.

This paper presents an application of Decentralised Autonomous Organisation (DAO) in the field of design and AEC industry. The model is applied in the realm of shape grammar proposing the possibility of allowing multiple grammarists to collaborate in the definition of a new grammar within a Blockchain environment that acts as a distributed ledger. DAOs systems and Blockchain are introduced as well as shape grammar and its fundamental rules. The collaborative nature of a DAO with the inner logic of shape grammar, which bases its principle and rules in multiple variations and combinations of simple initial shapes, brings to the problem of recording and validating changes and improvements in the design chain. For this reason, a voting system to govern the process is introduced, based on both quantitative values, i.e. number of votes, and qualitative power, i.e. the reputation of who votes, applying a factor that scales the vote according to the expertise of the voter. An example is provided showing a possible scenario in a design environment along with validation criteria, and predicting future stages applied in an always more BIM-oriented practice.
