Predictive analysis of Bitcoin price considering social sentiments

We report on the use of sentiment analysis on news and social media to analyze and predict the price of Bitcoin. Bitcoin is the leading cryptocurrency and has the highest market capitalization among digital currencies. Predicting Bitcoin values may help understand and predict potential market movement and future growth of the technology. Unlike (mostly) repeating phenomena like weather, cryptocurrency values do not follow a repeating pattern and mere past value of Bitcoin does not reveal any secret of future Bitcoin value. Humans follow general sentiments and technical analysis to invest in the market. Hence considering people's sentiment can give a good degree of prediction. We focus on using social sentiment as a feature to predict future Bitcoin value, and in particular, consider Google News and Reddit posts. We find that social sentiment gives a good estimate of how future Bitcoin values may move. We achieve the lowest test RMSE of 434.87 using an LSTM that takes as inputs the historical price of various cryptocurrencies, the sentiment of news articles and the sentiment of Reddit posts.

Tracking the circulation routes of fresh coins in Bitcoin: A way of identifying coin miners with transaction network structural properties

Bitcoin draws the highest degree of attention among cryptocurrencies, while coin mining is one of the most important fashion of profiting in the Bitcoin ecosystem. This paper constructs fresh coin circulation networks by tracking the fresh coin transfer routes with transaction referencing in Bitcoin blockchain. This paper proposes a heuristic algorithm to identifying coin miners by comparing coin circulation networks from different mining pools and thereby inferring the common profit distribution schemes of Bitcoin mining pools. Furthermore, this paper characterizes the increasing trend of Bitcoin miner numbers during recent years.

An Energy-Efficient Transaction Model for the Blockchain-Enabled Internet of Vehicles (IoV)

The blockchain is a safe, reliable and innovative mechanism for managing numerous vehicles seeking connectivity. However, following the principles of the blockchain, the number of transactions required to update ledgers pose serious issues for vehicles as these may consume the maximum available energy. To resolve this, an efficient model is presented in this letter which is capable of handling the energy demands of the blockchain-enabled Internet of Vehicles (IoV) by optimally controlling the number of transactions through distributed clustering. Numerical results suggest that the proposed approach is 40.16% better in terms of energy conservation and 82.06% better in terms of the number of transactions required to share the entire blockchain-data compared with the traditional blockchain.

Analysis of Financial News with NewsStream

Unstructured data, such as news and blogs, can provide valuable insights into the financial world. We present the NewsStream portal, an intuitive and easy-to-use tool for news analytics, which supports interactive querying and visualizations of the documents at different levels of detail. It relies on a scalable architecture for real-time processing of a continuous stream of textual data, which incorporates data acquisition, cleaning, natural-language preprocessing and semantic annotation components. It has been running for over two years and collected over 18 million news articles and blog posts. The NewsStream portal can be used to answer the questions when, how often, in what context, and with what sentiment was a financial entity or term mentioned in a continuous stream of news and blogs, and therefore providing a complement to news aggregators. We illustrate some features of our system in three use cases: relations between the rating agencies and the PIIGS countries, reflection of financial news on credit default swap (CDS) prices, the emergence of the Bitcoin digital currency, and visualizing how the world is connected through news.

Bitcoin Transaction Graph Analysis

Bitcoins have recently become an increasingly popular cryptocurrency through which users trade electronically and more anonymously than via traditional electronic transfers. Bitcoin's design keeps all transactions in a public ledger. The sender and receiver for each transaction are identified only by cryptographic public-key ids. This leads to a common misconception that it inherently provides anonymous use. While Bitcoin's presumed anonymity offers new avenues for commerce, several recent studies raise user-privacy concerns. We explore the level of anonymity in the Bitcoin system. Our approach is two-fold: (i) We annotate the public transaction graph by linking bitcoin public keys to "real" people - either definitively or statistically. (ii) We run the annotated graph through our graph-analysis framework to find and summarize activity of both known and unknown users.
