Kiran Kumar Mandula Samuel

The fusion of blockchain technology and artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the fintech sector, opening up a new era marked by improved security, efficiency, and innovation. Blockchain’s decentralized ledger guarantees transparent and unalterable transactions, helping to minimize fraud and build user trust. At the same time, AI offers sophisticated data analysis, machine learning, and automation that enhance decision-making, tailor financial services, and provide predictive capabilities. Combined, these technologies tackle major fintech challenges like cybersecurity risks, regulatory adherence, and the complexity of transaction management. For instance, AI can scrutinize blockchain data to identify fraud in real time, while blockchain ensures a secure framework for AI applications with reliable data. Furthermore, blockchain-powered smart contracts automate and enforce agreements, cutting down the reliance on intermediaries, and AI further streamlines these operations for greater speed and precision. This integration also promotes financial inclusion by offering safe, affordable financial services to underserved populations globally. As both technologies evolve, they are poised to redefine traditional financial systems, encourage the development of innovations like decentralized finance (DeFi), and change how financial organizations function. In essence, the collaboration between blockchain and AI is ushering fintech into a new age of transparency, intelligence, and accessibility.

Blockchain-Based Responsibility Management Framework for Smart City Building Information Modeling Projects Using Non-Fungible Tokens

Hao Bai, Zihan Li, Keyu Chen, Xiongwei Li

In the context of digital construction, responsibility management in smart city building information modeling (BIM) projects spans the entire building lifecycle. The involvement of numerous BIM designers in project management and frequent data exchanges pose significant challenges for the traceability, immutability, and responsibility attribution of BIM models. To address these issues, this study proposes a blockchain-based responsibility management and collaboration framework for BIM projects using non-fungible tokens (NFTs), aiming to enhance the management of responsibilities and accountability in BIM projects. This research adopts a design science methodology, strictly adhering to scientific research procedures to ensure rigor. First, NFTs based on blockchain technology were developed to generate corresponding digital signatures for BIM model files. This approach ensures that each BIM model file has a unique digital identity, enhancing transparency and traceability in responsibility management. Next, the interplanetary file system (IPFS) was used to generate digital fingerprints, with the content identifier generated by IPFS uploaded to the blockchain to ensure the immutability of BIM model files. This method guarantees the integrity and security of BIM model files throughout their lifecycle. Finally, the proposed methods were validated through a blockchain network. The experimental results indicate that the proposed framework is theoretically highly feasible and demonstrates good applicability and efficiency in practical production. The constructed blockchain network meets the actual needs of responsibility management in smart city BIM projects, enhancing the transparency and reliability of project management.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF CRYPTOCURRENCY MINING: SUSTAINABILITY CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS

Hugo Prasetyo Winotoatmojo, Samuel Yesua Lazuardy, Fabian Arland, Antonius Ary Setyawan

The rapid growth of cryptocurrencies over the past 14 years has led to increased deep-level mining activities. This research aims to explore the environmental impacts resulting from the surge in crypto mining and proposed solutions to mitigate these impacts. Cryptocurrencies, gaining popularity as alternative investments and global payment tools, have significantly boosted crypto mining activities. However, the increasing number of transactions requiring computer validation has resulted in adverse consequences for the environment, particularly in terms of substantial energy consumption. Literature review and systematic analysis were conducted to comprehend the environmental impact of crypto mining, focusing on major cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and others. The analysis highlights that crypto mining, especially Bitcoin, requires a significant amount of electricity, leading to a substantial carbon footprint and broad environmental repercussions. Proposed solutions to address the environmental impact of crypto mining include the use of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power, enhancing the efficiency of specialized mining devices (ASICs), and exploring more energy-efficient consensus mechanisms like Proof of Stake (PoS) compared to the currently utilized Proof of Work (PoW). Reducing redundancy in blockchain technology has also been identified as a crucial step in minimizing unnecessary energy consumption. However, this research has limitations concerning data consistency, a comprehensive understanding of overall environmental impacts, and continuous technological changes in the crypto world. Therefore, future research should focus on developing more efficient consensus mechanisms, effective policy frameworks and governance, as well as real-world implementation studies to evaluate the sustainability solutions proposed.

A Secure Electronic Healthcare Information Preservation System Using Blockchain Technology

Modupe Agagu

The role of record keeping and information sharing in the health sector cannot be overemphasized.Such records comprise an individual's health history and other information that facilitates healthcare decisions, therefore easy access to a patient's health information is an important aspect of health-service delivery that must be regulated and monitored because of the sensitivity of the information. Some approaches adopted in many hospitals face challenges of missing files or records, lack of information sharing between healthcare providers, insecure records, and also inaccessibility of patient's health information for healthcare providers that are needed to make informed health decisions. To overcome these challenges, this work proposes an Electronic Health Record (EHR) using Blockchain to store information as well as enhance data privacy and data security. The proposed solution includes Ethereum and smart contracts to establish a medical record system to ensure the privacy of patients. Also, there exists the privilege to deal with and authorize personal medical records in the proposed framework. The practical findings demonstrate that our proposed system offers a practical approach for trustworthy data exchanges in healthcare while safeguarding private health data from dangers. When compared to the current data sharing models, the system evaluation and security exploration show performance gains in the design, minimize delays in patient data retrieval, and high levels of security and data privacy.

Conceptual Model of Quality Management Based on Blockchain in Construction Industry

Atul Kumar Singh, V. R. Prasath Kumar

Poor quality in construction could lead to the cash flow disruption, project delays, profit loss in projects due to rework, and some time to the property damage or human loss due to accidents. In order to ensure the quality of work, quality control (QC) departments inspect the construction work compliance with best practices, defined procedures, and specifications. These inspections rely on manual procedures, post-construction evaluation, document-based, and are carried out through a supervisory manner approach from top-down. However, this top-down control-oriented approach does not provide enough motivation for quality control managers, operators, and workers to voluntarily follow quality procedures and specifications. Besides, document-based quality specification compliance assessments have limitations that are difficult to determine whether the required specifications have actually been implemented and are not reliable to measure their real performance as well. In this regard, this study proposes a conceptual framework for Blockchain-based quality management at construction sites, which could ensure security and reliability of information generated through while implementing quality-related specification and procedures by managers and workers using Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT) and also to encourage them by establishing a compensation structure through performance assessment for activities of each task. The Block chained quality management approach would greatly help shift the traditional top-down and passive quality control process to bottom-up and voluntary manner. It might open a new innovative value-chain structure in the construction quality domain which provides securing reliability of activities required for quality assurance procedures and specification implementation.

Artificial intelligence-driven cryptocurrencies are cryptocurrencies created by Artificial intelligence using the traditional human cryptocurrency development framework without human intervention. An AI explores the data from each different stream and arriving at the framework which can host these cryptocurrencies following the standards of legality. Cryptography is the encryption of specific data to conceal it and keep it a secret from unwanted third parties. Cryptocurrencies are encrypted currencies with unique keys as developed by developers. Artificial intelligence is an advanced machine programmed to simulate and emulate human intelligence by carrying tasks and reaching conclusions with little or no human intervention. This work considered the use of AI through machine learning and deep learning in the development of cryptocurrencies. The AI machine will set all the parameters and structure of the cryptocurrency. This will include how data is added, removed, and verified on the stream. Blockchain is an open ledger of a cryptocurrency's transactions. It stores files in the system, arranged in blocks, and connected on a list called chains. The article considers how AI-driven cryptocurrency will run using the blockchain network and its impact on it. Artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency are technological very essential technological development currently. The effect of the combination of both technologies would be enormous in the future as both technologies will develop each other remarkably.

Trustworthy IoT: An Evidence Collection Approach Based on Smart Contracts

Claudio A. Ardagna, Rasool Asal, Ernesto Damiani, Nabil El Ioini · 5 authors

Today, Internet of Things (IoT) implements an ecosystem where a panoply of interconnected devices collect data from physical environments and supply them to processing services, on top of which cloud-based applications are built and provided to mobile end users. The undebatable advantages of smart IoT systems clash with the need of a secure and trustworthy environment. In this paper, we propose a service-based methodology based on blockchain and smart contracts for trustworthy evidence collection at the basis of a trustworthy IoT assurance evaluation. The methodology balances the provided level of trustworthiness and its performance, and is experimentally evaluated using Hyperledger fabric blockchain.

Application of Integrated Building Information Modeling, IoT and Blockchain Technologies in System Design of a Smart Building

Izabella Lokshina, Michal Greguš, Wade L. Thomas

The Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry has not adopted digital transformation enthusiastically like other industries, for instance, manufacturing, aerospace or finance. Building Information Modeling (BIM) is an innovative technology that is considered as an opportunity for the AEC industry to move to the digital era and improve the collaboration among stakeholders by applying Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). BIM provides all required tools and automations to achieve end-to-end communication, data exchange and information sharing among collaborators. Accordingly, virtual 3D models, created by the BIM process, delivered as physical assets, monitored in real-time and managed using Building Management Systems (BMS), can adopt the Internet of Things (IoT) designs and services. However, the implementation of IoT in a highly modular environment with various moving parts and inter-dependencies between stakeholders leads to security concerns. Therefore, this paper proposes system design that employs the blockchain technology as a measure to secure and control the framework that involves integrated IoT and BIM technologies. Although this paper considers system design applied in a smart museum, the authors assume that design is generic and applicable in other building categories. For instance, this design can be implemented in the ongoing Alumni Hall renovation project at State University of New York College at Oneonta.

The outlook of blockchain technology for construction engineering management

Jun Wang, Peng Wu, Xiangyu Wang, Wenchi Shou

Current construction engineering management suffers numerous challenges in terms of the trust, information sharing, and process automation. Blockchain which is a decentralised transaction and data management technology, has attracted increasing interests from both academic and industrial aspects since 2008. However, most of the existing research and practices are focused on the blockchain itself (i.e. technical challenges and limitations) or its applications in the finance service sector (i.e. Bitcoin). This paper aims to investigate the potential of applying blockchain technology in the construction sector. Three types of blockchain-enabled applications are proposed to improve the current processes of contract management, supply chain management, and equipment leasing, respectively. Challenges of blockchain implementation are also discussed in this paper.

Potentials of Blockchain Technology for Construction Management

Žiga Turk, Robert Klinc

Blockchain technology enables distributed, encrypted and secure logging of digital transactions. It is the underlying technology of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Blockchain is expected to revolutionize computing in several areas, particularly where centralization was unnatural and privacy was important. In the paper, we present research on where and how this technology could be useful in the construction industry. The work is based on the study of literature on open issues that exist in construction process management. These are than matched to the capabilities of blockchain. We are motivated by the fact that construction projects involve a dynamic grouping of several companies. We study the degree to which the relationships among them are hierarchical or peer-to-peer and note that particularly in information intensive phases, centralization of information management was necessary because of technology. When using un-constraining technology, communication patterns among participants show a peer-to-peer nature of the relationships. In such environment, blockchain can provide a trustworthy infrastructure for information management during all building life-cycle stages. Even if building information modelling (BIM) is used, which assumes a centralized building information model, there is a role for blockchain to manage information on who did what and when and thus provide a basis for any legal arguments that might occur. On the construction site blockchain can improve the reliability and trustworthiness of construction logbooks, works performed and material quantities recorded. In the facility maintenance phase, blockchain's main potential is the secure storage of sensor data which are sensitive to privacy. We conclude that blockchain provides solutions to many current problems in construction information management. However, it is more likely that it will be built into generic IT infrastructure on top of which construction applications are built, rather than used directly by authors of construction related software. It has a potential to make construction processes less centralized which opens needs for research in that direction.
