Smart Logistics: Blockchain trends and applications

The recent increase of new technologies and their involvement into all management processes call into question the smart logistics current models, in which massive amounts of data is collected and controlled. Smart Logistics is considered as fundamental pillar of the 4th industrial revolution 'industry 4.0'. This revolution is based on different concepts including the blockchain technology. Blockchain remains one of the buzzwords in the technological world. So that all sectors are focus on concrete use cases. However, few actors can boast of having devised revolutionary solutions. For good reasons, blockchain technology is still very complex to understand. The purpose of this study is to define the various applications of Blockchain in Smart Logistics, as well as to present concrete examples of these applications. This work was done by classifying the applications according to four clusters: Information, Transport, Finance, and Management, in addition to presenting the applications of each cluster.

Coordination contracts for a dual-channel supply chain under capital constraints

<p style='text-indent:20px;'>Manufacturers often face capital constraints when opening up online channel, at this time external financing and internal financing are usually considered. Previous literature has shown that internal financing, turns out to be a better option. To figure out how trade credit financing discount contract affects operations and performances of supply chain, this paper studies the pricing decision of a retailer-dominant dual-channel supply chain with manufacturer's capital constraints. The Stackelberg game models under centralized decision and decentralized decision are constructed. Moreover, this paper conducts research about the effects of revenue-sharing (RS) contract, direct channel price discount (DP) contract and retail channel price discount (RP) contract on the performance of supply chain. Numerical examples are provided to explore the comparison of the optimal pricing strategies and total profits under different contracts. The results show that the retailer prefers RS and DP contracts to RP contract. Among them, RS contract has a broader scope of coordination, while DP contract can achieve a higher profit. The results can serve as insights for decision-makers to choose the most appropriate financial discount contract.

A comparative study for Bitcoin cryptocurrency forecasting in period 2017-2019

Abstract The objective of this study were (i) to construct the classical statistic and artificial intelligent model for predicting bitcoin cryptocurrency, and (ii) to compare the predicting performance by using root mean square error (RMSE) and mean square error (MSE) as forecasting evaluation tool. The observation data used in this study were collected during January, 5 2017 to October, 1 2019 (in total 1,000 daily observation data). The statistical method used in this study were ARIMA (Autoregressive Moving Average) and Exponential Smoothing. The artificial intelligent model were used in this study were fuzzy time series and ANFIS (Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System). The partitions data set were of 75%-25% of training and testing, respectively. The cryptocurrency investigated was bitcoin (BTC) which is the top three of most widely traded cryptocurrency. The forecasting results show that the classical method has the smallest value of RMSE and MSE which is exponential smoothing with 9749.81 for MSE and 98.74 for RMSE. However, the performance of forecasting method cannot be guaranteed from either classical or modern forecasting method. Analyzing with different method can be considered for future study, for example machine learning, neural network, modified fuzzy time series, etc.

Research on Charity System Based on Blockchain

Abstract The charity organizations in China lack transparency and the supervision to them is difficult to achieve, which has a negative impact on the willingness of the people to donate. Blockchain as a underlying technology of Bitcoin system provides a new solution for the charity system in terms of technology. This paper proposed a charity system based on blockchain technology and expounds the design pattern, architecture and operational process of the platform. Some core functions of the charity platform have been realized and verified on Ethereum in this article. We hope to increase the transparency of charities to enhance the public’s trust in charities and promote the development of philanthropy by blockchain-based charity system.

Bitcoin: Digital Illusion or a Currency of the Future?

Bitcoin has been one of the most interesting financial innovations in the last ten years. In this essay, we set out to discover why it has not spread as a medium of payment and how it has become a high-risk form of investment instead. We examine the operational mechanisms of bitcoin technology and explain the ideological background for the popularity of bitcoin. We conclude that, in its present form, bitcoin is not suitable to become a generally accepted medium of payment.

Utilizing Distributed Ledger Technology to Integrate Anglophone and Indigenous Pedagogies in the 21st Century – The Case for Hawaii

The emergence of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) is rapidly transforming many global industries influenced by the growth and use of artificial intelligence (AI), distributed ledger technology (DLT), ubiquitous cloud and edge computing as well as other emerging digital platform-based systems. Mobile technologies and their use and adoption in education have generated research concerning new approaches for technology-enhanced learning (TEL), including mobile learning (m-learning). The evolution of TEL and recent research on m-learning and ubiquitous learning (u-learning) offer the potential for a new phase of educational delivery marked by a continuity of the learning experience across different learning settings using the mobile device as the mediator. Chan and colleagues use the term “seamless learning” to describe these new affordances.&#13;\nIndigenous peoples have historically experienced both the positive and negative effects of being educated within the Anglophone tradition. American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian students have had the highest high-school dropout rates of any racial or ethnic groups in the United States and are the least represented on college campuses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.&#13;\nThis thesis has selected the Native Hawaiian indigenous culture for in-depth analysis. It examines the epistemological and ontological underpinnings of the Native Hawaiian worldview and the educational history of indigenous Hawaiians in the State of Hawaii, both ancient and modern. In addition, it examines the potential for the synthesis of the Anglophone and Native Hawaiian pedagogical traditions in order to improve educational outcomes for these and other indigenous students attending United States public schools.&#13;\nSince the early 1960s, the education of Native Hawaiians in the State of Hawaii has undergone a gradual systemic transformation that has led to improved outcomes. To that end, the Hawaiian language, cultural values, and the use of traditional pedagogies have blossomed, primarily due to the establishment of indigenous-led Hawaiian culture-based education (CBE) initiatives and scholarship.&#13;\nMoreover, the creation of a growing number of Hawaiian Language Immersion and Public Charter Schools has elevated these CBE pedagogies to a new level of importance within the public education system of Hawaii. While significant challenges to increased progress remain, the innovative use of a cultural strengths-based approach has succeeded in addressing several of the historical barriers hindering Native Hawaiian student motivation and engagement in education. In addition, empirical research conducted in Hawaii has verified a CBE model framework capable of improving indigenous student outcomes within the Anglophone traditions of the United States educational system.&#13;\nThis thesis examines the potential for the integration of traditional Anglophone and indigenous pedagogies implemented through mobile seamless learning modalities. It analyses the significant synergies available through the utilization of DLT and Hyperledger applications for the facilitation of seamless learning interactions between providers and seekers of education when structured within a new integrative model. It also examines the unexplored gaps in the research associated with mobile-assisted seamless learning (MSL) and recommends the potential application of the model design to close those gaps, increase the seamlessness of MSL and propel learning opportunities. The model is then situated within both the Anglophone and Native Hawaiian pedagogical traditions in order to illustrate the MSL affordances available for both educators and mobile indigenous learners. Finally, several use cases of the integrative model are provided to demonstrate its flexibility and extendibility in different m-learning and other indigenous and traditional learning environments.&#13;\nWhile not a comprehensive or complete solution, this integrative model nonetheless has implications for future research as well as potentially broad applications for indigenous communities to collaborate and share their knowledge at a lower cost, and for educators and students worldwide to benefit mutually as the Fourth Industrial Revolution advances.

Village authority and position in realizing village autonomy

Abstract Law No. 6 of 2014 concerning Villages, clarifies the position of one of the integral parts of the country that is specifically regulated in view of its cultural uniqueness. Village autonomy is no longer a part of regional autonomy given to villages, but the granting of inheritance rights inherent in villages as part of inherited rights. The position of the village is no longer under and in the regional government; rather, it is domiciled in regencies or cities, Article 5 and Article 4 of Law No. 6 of 2014 concerning Villages, outlining the purpose of the process referred to as village regulation. Research Objectives To Determine the Authority and Position of the Village in Realizing Village Autonomy. This research is a normative legal research method. Normative legal research is research conducted by reviewing the laws and regulations that apply or apply to a particular legal problem. The authority assigned by the Government, the Provincial Regional Government, or Regency/City Regional Government, village authority becomes an autonomous village of local self-government. Constitutionally, the village is an indigenous governing organization (a self-governing community), not a formal government organization that carries out administrative functions of the state (local state government). Village authority is based on the principle of recognition and subsidiarity, not on the principle of decentralization. Thus the position of the village must be emphasized first in the constitutional structure through the constitution, then followed by the transfer of authority to the village along with the allocation of funds directly from the state budget.

Testing Smart Contracts

Background: Executing, verifying and enforcing credible transactions on permissionless blockchains is done using smart contracts. A key challenge with smart contracts is ensuring their correctness and security. Several test input generation techniques for detecting vulnerabilities in smart contracts have been proposed in the last few years. However, a comparison of proposed techniques to gauge their effectiveness is missing. Aim: This paper conducts an empirical evaluation of testing techniques for smart contracts. The testing techniques we evaluated are: (1) Blackbox fuzzing, (2) Adaptive fuzzing, (3) Coverage-guided fuzzing with an SMT solver and (4) Genetic algorithm. We do not consider static analysis tools, as several recent studies have assessed and compared effectiveness of these tools. Method: We evaluate effectiveness of the test generation techniques using (1) Coverage achieved - we use four code coverage metrics targeting smart contracts, (2) Fault finding ability - using artificially seeded and real security vulnerabilities of different types. We used two datasets in our evaluation - one with 1665 real smart contracts from Etherscan, and another with 90 real contracts with known vulnerabilities to assess fault finding ability. Result: We find Adaptive fuzzing performs best in terms of coverage and fault finding over contracts in both datasets. Conclusion: However, we believe considering dependencies between functions and handling Solidity specific features will help improve the performance of all techniques considerably.

We describe the evolution of the cardossier blockchain consortium in Switzerland, which is building a system for managing car data and seeking to improve collaboration between players in the car-related ecosystem. From our involvement with the cardossier project, we have gained insights that will be valuable to enterprises considering whether to join a blockchain consortium.

SklCoin: Toward a Scalable Proof-of-Stake and Collective Signature Based Consensus Protocol for Strong Consistency in Blockchain

The proof-of-work consensus protocol suffers from two main limitations: waste of energy and offering only probabilistic guarantees about the status of the blockchain. This paper introduces SklCoin, a new Byzantine consensus protocol and its corresponding software architecture. This protocol leverages two ideas: 1) the proof-of-stake concept to dynamically form stake proportionate consensus groups that represent block miners (stakeholders), and 2) scalable collective signing to efficiently commit transactions irreversibly. SklCoin has immediate finality characteristic where all miners instantly agree on the validity of blocks. In addition, SklCoin supports high transaction rate because of its fast miner election mechanism.

A Model of Cryptocurrencies

We model a cryptocurrency as membership in a decentralized digital platform developed to facilitate transactions between users of certain goods or services. The rigidity induced by the cryptocurrency price having to clear membership demand with supply of token by speculators, especially with strong complementarity in membership demand, can lead to market breakdown. While user optimism mitigates the market fragility by increasing user participation, speculator sentiment exacerbates it by crowding users out. Informational frictions attenuate the risk of breakdown by dampening price volatility and platform performance. Furthermore, the users' anticipation of losses from strategic attacks by miners exacerbates the market fragility.

A Scalable Digital Infrastructure for Sustainable Energy Grid Enabled by Distributed Ledger Technology

The future of renewable energy transportation and distribution is dynamic and complex, with distributed renewable resources in required distributed control. It is suggested that Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) is a timely innovation with the potential to facilitate this future. The transition to full renewable energy requires an infrastructure capable of handling intermittent production that has a low marginal cost. This requires a distributed control logic where devices with embedded intelligence coordinate local production, a decentralized energy market where prices are not primarily based on production, and an underlying digital infrastructure to enable both. Simulations and experiments have demonstrated great potential in such a digital infrastructure, but real-life tests have identified scalability as a remaining challenge. In this paper, we propose a DLT-based architecture for the energy grid with the development of existing solution concepts by implementing scalability solutions. To this end, we derive energy market components as a framework for building efficient microgrid. Then, we discuss the microgrid as a case study of such a market according to the required components within energy production, transmission, and distribution; distributed ledger platform operations, IoT device manufacturing,; software development; and research in IoT, edge and cloud computing, and energy systems.

Therefore, the telecommunication infrastructure has to meet unprecedented service level requirements such as ultra high data rates and traffic volume for the prominent future applications such as Virtual Reality (VR), holographic communications, and massive Machine Type Communications (mMTC). There are significant challenges identifiable in the communication context to match the envisaged demand surge. The blockchain and distributed ledger technology is one of the most disruptive technology enablers to address most of the current limitations and facilitate the functional standards of 6G. In this work, we explore the role of blockchain to address formidable challenges in 6G, future application opportunities and potential research directions.

Improving Sustainability of Cryptocurrency Payment Networks for IoT Applications

Blockchain-based cryptocurrencies received a lot of attention recently for their applications in many domains. IoT domain is one of such applications, which can utilize cryptocur-rencies for micro payments without compromising their payment privacy. However, long confirmation times of transactions and relatively high fees hinder the adoption of cryptoccurency based micro-payments. The payment channel networks is one of the proposed solutions to address these issue where nodes establish payment channels among themselves without writing on blockchain. IoT devices can benefit from such payment networks as long as they are capable of sustaining their overhead. Payment channel networks pose unique characteristics as far as the routing problem is concerned. Specifically, they should stay balanced to have a sustainable network for maintaining payments for longer times, which is crucial for IoT devices once they are deployed.In this paper, we present a payment channel network design that aims to keep the channels balanced by using a common weight policy across the network. We additionally propose using multi-point connections to nodes for each IoT device for unbalanced payment scenarios. The experiment results show that we can keep the channels in the network more equally balanced compared to the minimal fee approach. In addition, multiple connections from IoT devices to nodes increase the success ratio significantly.

A contabilidade é fortemente desafiada a reconhecer e mensurar as informações de forma relevante e autêntica mantendo-as hodiernas, de acordo com o que afirma o CPC 00 para atender as necessidades dos usuários nas mais diferentes esferas de atuação. Uma vez que o Conselho de Normas Internacionais de Contabilidade, responsável pela padronização as normas internacionais, ainda não se posicionou sobre o tratamento contábil das moedas virtuais e a mesma, sendo uma moeda descentralizada, não dispõe de um órgão regulador que discipline seus usos e registros, a contabilidade deve buscar alternativas, padrões na jurisprudência contábil para solucionar essas movimentações. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo geral identificar como as atividades realizadas em Bitcoins são reconhecidas sob a perspectiva da contabilidade junto aos órgãos responsáveis pela regulamentação e incidência de tributos sobre transações econômicas. Os procedimentos técnicos adotados foram à pesquisa bibliográfica e o estudo de caso. Conclui-se pela necessidade da criação de uma lei que regularize as moedas virtuais em defesa e segurança do usuário, descartando a intervenção estatal, uma vez que esta foi a falha das moedas virtuais que vieram anteriormente e, até que isso se concretize, sugere-se fazer a cotação dos Bitcoins já em uso empregando a cotação da exchange responsável.

<em>This article looks at whether financial regulations and Government policies have an impact on microfinance institutions operations in Ghana. It also looks at contributions that regulations and policies have on microfinance sector development in the country. The methodology for this paper is purely qualitative. The needed information was gathered from primary &amp; secondary sources. The primary data source used face to face interviews, telephonic and through emails conducted with regulators, policymakers and microfinance institutions managers, using interview guide and focus group discussion guide. The secondary source was through literature reviews, books, journals, and the internet. The study revealed that financial regulations and government policies have contributed immensely to microfinance sector development through, training &amp; capacity building, checks &amp; balances, protecting customers &amp; depositors, financial soundness and financial inclusion. However, despite the contribution of regulations and the policies to the sub-sector, the result of the study also identified poor regulations, lack of proper decentralization, lack of knowledge and weakness of regulators as problems with financial regulation. Furthermore, it also found out that, the policies formulated are weak and the implementation, monitoring, and supervision of the institutions is insufficient and ineffective. This article, therefore, recommends that Apex bodies should be involved in monitoring and supervision, minimum capital requirements should be made moderate, powers should be decentralized to the regional level for the effective functioning of regulations &amp; policies in the country.</em> <strong><em>Keywords</em></strong><em>: Bank of Ghana, Regulations, Ministry of Finance, Policy Formulation, Microfinance Institutions.</em>

Dynamic reputation–based consensus mechanism: Real-time transactions for energy blockchain

The energy blockchain is a distributed Internet protocol for energy transactions between nodes in power systems. The consensus algorithm is the core component of the energy blockchain and has an essential impact on its application. At present, in the implementation of the energy blockchain, there are problems such as low transaction throughput (transactions per second) and high latency, which cannot meet the application requirements of real-time processing transactions in the energy field. To this end, according to the analysis of conventional blockchain consensus algorithm and traditional practical Byzantine fault tolerance algorithm, a dynamic-reputation practical Byzantine fault tolerance algorithm for the energy blockchain is proposed. The dynamic-reputation practical Byzantine fault tolerance algorithm adopts a credit-based consortium node consensus election method. The monitoring node divides the remaining nodes into two types of nodes according to the reputation value: the consensus node and the secondary node, which, respectively, participate in different stages of the block generation process, and dynamically update the consensus nodes with low reputation ratings. By constructing the experimental platform simulation, the test results verify the effectiveness of the dynamic-reputation practical Byzantine fault tolerance algorithm. Compared with the algorithm of the fabric platform, the dynamic-reputation practical Byzantine fault tolerance algorithm improves the transaction processing speed and is suitable for the blockchain application in the energy field.

A Case Study of Using Blockchain Technology in Regulatory Technology

This article explores the potential for applying blockchain technology for regulatory compliance and for reducing compliance costs and easing regulatory burdens. We describe the development of the Project Maison proof-of-concept blockchain system for regulatory reporting of mortgages in the U.K. This case study identified use cases and also the risks of increased supervision and loss of control and the governance challenges and trade-offs inherent in applying a decentralized approach to regulatory reporting.

In last decade crypto currencies become popular as there is no third party involvement while doing the transactions. Blockchain is the technology for using crypto-currencies. It attracts the attention of researchers and academicians , along with different features of Blockchain it is having the major issue of scalability which can be categorized into throughput , cost, capacity and networking . Improvement in Scalability affects the application of blockchain in business . Scalability affects due to some other factors like block interval time and block size which also may reduce the security . System may become vulnerable to different attacks if we blindly modify the scalability .In this paper we analyze the different ways to improve the scalability then we compare the features of blockchain with respect to different algorithms used to solve the scalability issue.
