Blockchain and Internet of Things in Healthcare Systems

Abstract

The rapid development in information technologies is making a big change to the health sector. The method of prescription, diagnosis and sharing of vital health information is still attached to conventional paper methods, thus reducing the efficiency of health workers, and causing the lack of a robust database for medical professionals who can handle specialized diagnostics activities for special patients. Therefore, it is necessary to introduce digital health transformation technologies like blockchain and the Internet of things (IoT) in the healthcare system. The analysis of blockchain components is required to develop a new layer that adapts to the architecture of a medical centre to integrate this technology in a hospital. This assures that the data is kept cryptographically private to avoid exposure and that the entire procedure is double-checked by many blocks. Therefore, this chapter focus on the applicability of IoT-based blockchain in the healthcare system. The issues and challenges of these technologies are inventively discussed and identifies the prospects of IoT-based enabled with blockchain in the healthcare sector. Lastly, the investigation disputes in IoT-based enabled blockchain framework were discussed with a proposed framework for the application of blockchain-enabled IoT-based system. The real-time application of the proposed framework will enhance the security and privacy of healthcare systems. The advent of blockchain-enabled IoT-based systems in healthcare will assist the launching of secure digital intelligent systems, which will help to revolutionize the sector and increase the management of patients and health professionals.
