Blockchain Based Traceability System for Food Safety

Authors:M. DakshayiniH P SushmaS Spoorthi

Abstract

Food industry professionals and consumers alike take food safety seriously. The complexity of the food supply chain makes it difficult to trace the provenance and quality of food products, which can result in contamination, fraud, and ineffective recalls. To improve transparency, traceability, and accountability throughout the food supply chain, blockchain technology has emerged as a possible alternative. It examines how blockchain technology and food safety interact, highlighting how it could fundamentally alter how we monitor, confirm, and protect the quality of our food. This work proposes a Blockchain based food traceability system provides a safe and tamper-proof platform for tracking each step of the food journey by establishing an immutable and decentralized ledger of transactions. It has been implemented with the essential characteristics of blockchain, such as data immutability, transparency, smart contracts, and decentralized consensus and could successfully trace the food chain steps.
