Impact of the Hash Rate on the Theoretical Fork Rate of Blockchain

Abstract

Forks in a blockchain make it less secure. So the fork rate can be used as a measure of security. Theoretical fork rates have been used in a number of studies, not all of which consider the distribution of hash rates. In this paper, we propose a theoretical fork rate that considers the distribution of hash rates. We compare this theoretical fork rate that considers the distribution of hash rates, a theoretical fork rate that does not consider the distribution of hash rates, and the real fork rate obtained by simulation experiments. Using a simulator, we show that the proposed theoretical fork rate is closer to the real value.
