The author offers insights on the financial regulation of virtual currencies such as Bitcoin and its shared-ledger or blockchain technology. Topics discussed include the increasing use of Bitcoin in commercial transactions, characteristics of Bitcoin which determine its monetary value, and the use of blockchain technology for the digital storage of virtual currencies.
