Blockchain Technology in Next Generation Energy Management System

Authors:Wai Yie LeongYuan Zhi LeongWai San Leong

Abstract

Blockchain technology can play a significant role in the next generation energy management system (EMS) by addressing several challenges and improving various aspects of the energy sector. Energy assets, such as renewable energy certificates or carbon credits, can be tokenized on the blockchain. This allows for fractional ownership, increased liquidity, and more efficient trading of these assets, fostering a more dynamic and accessible market. Blockchain can help streamline regulatory compliance by providing a transparent and auditable record of energy transactions. This can simplify the process of verifying adherence to regulations and standards. While blockchain holds great promise for the energy sector, its adoption will require overcoming challenges such as scalability, interoperability, and regulatory acceptance. As the technology matures and standards emerge, blockchain is likely to play a crucial role in shaping the future of energy management systems.
