The Risks of the Trump-Backed WLFI Governance Token
Abstract
This article critically examines the World Liberty Financial (WLFI) governance token, a decentralized finance (DeFi) initiative tied to the Trump family. While WLFI claims to advance DeFi innovation, its design and governance raise significant concerns. Key issues include concentrated ownership, lack of transparency, and a non-tradeable token model that undermines liquidity. With 75% of funds allocated to the Trump family, WLFI deviates from DeFi's core principles of decentralization and ecosystem reinvestment. The analysis contextualizes WLFI’s risks within broader challenges in the DeFi space, emphasizing the need for transparency, accountability, and investor protection in high-profile crypto ventures.
