Abstract

The emergence of connected and autonomous vehicles has led to increased demand for secure and efficient communication systems. Blockchain, a decentralized and tamperproof distributed ledger technology, offers promising solutions for addressing the challenges of communication in smart vehicle networks and has the potential to revolutionize the automotive industry. We discuss the fundamental concepts of blockchain technology and explore its application in the context of smart vehicles. Additionally, we examine the key features and benefits of blockchain-based communication frameworks for vehicles, infrastructure, and other stakeholders and highlight the potential impact of these frameworks on enhancing the safety, security, transparency, and efficiency of smart transportation systems. By exploring the fundamental concepts, applications, design considerations, case studies, and future directions, readers will gain insights into the benefits, and also the challenges, of integrating blockchain into smart transportation systems. These challenges include scalability, privacy, security, regulatory compliance, and interoperability.
