Blockchain in Environmental Conservation
Abstract
The technology known as blockchain which primarily underpins cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin has become a transformative measure in numerous fields including conservation of the environment. This decentralized ledger system ensures sustainable practices, simplifies carbon trading, manages natural resources, protects wildlife, and supports renewable energy initiatives all of which increase openness, efficiency, and trust in efforts to preserve nature. Applications of blockchain technology in environmental conservation will continue to expand as it develops further and keeps providing creative answers to significant environmental challenges. Environmental issues benefit considerably from blockchains while they are permanent and unchangeable databases shared by a community with no particular ownership. They make it possible to monitor and validate exchanges and transactions decentralized which dramatically improves environmental project accountability, efficiency, and transparency. Through its ability to monitor potential ecological and social concerns which could endanger human health, safety, or the environment, blockchains also have an impact on networks of sustainable supply chains ( Adams et al., 2018 ). Furthermore, blockchain might be considered an evolution in the sharing of knowledge and a revolution in information technology. Nowadays, businesses are competing to learn how to innovate their processes, goods, and transactions with distributed ledger technologies like blockchain ( Parmentola et al., 2022 ). Now that the revolutionary blockchain technology potential for environmental preservation is well recognized, let us explore how these innovations in technology relate to broader industrial revolutions and societal changes.
