Blockchain as a Security Solution in the Internet of Vehicle: A Survey

Abstract

For the successful integration between automobile and IoV, vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) plays a major role. In this era of smart cities and smart communications, intelligent transport system (ITS) is being used to provide different interactive services in VANET. This may include various applications like safety concerns of the drivers or the passengers, road guidance, driving assistance, infotainment etc. This continuous advancements in different areas of VANET provides an advantageous and comfortable user experience, however, it also exposes the network to different security challenges. Considering the relevance of the field we first study the different characteristics and security issues of VANET. The next section contains a survey on blockchain based countermeasures of the addressed security issues. Blockchain is a popular distributed ledger and is very well suited to address the challenges in IoVs. This paper provides a details study about the application of blockchain to fill the existing security gaps in IoV.
