Integration of Blockchain for IoT communication

Abstract

This chapter covers the essence of the integration of two significant technologies, that is, the IoT and Blockchain. The IoT ecosystem is increasing day by day with millions of devices and almost everything is communicating with everything else, be it machines, wearable devices, humans, animals, and so on, and generating massive amounts of data with each communication. The penetration of IoT devices into every field of life has created the necessity for security of data created by each transaction among these devices. The IoT ecosystem is continuously under cyber threat as well as threat related to data misuse and data privacy. The integration of the most emerging technology, that is, Blockchain, which is a distributed ledger technology creating immutable records, will definitely solve most of our problems. This integration, although it seems to be very fruitful, still has some issues and challenges. Most of the problems related to security, privacy, data integrity, authentication, and authorisation will be sorted out with the use of Blockchain.
