School leadership and financial management

Abstract

Financial management has become a critical issue in South African schools. Chapter 13 discusses the implications of school leadership on financial management. It tackles aspects of school financial management in relation to financial organization, planning, monitoring, and control. The implication of decentralized school funding model, policy and legal context of school financing, the role of school governing bodies, and finance committees are foregrounded. The chapter highlights some of the milestones and challenges of school leaders in terms of financial management, thus making recommendations regarding effective school financial management.
