Blockchain-Enabled Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Solutions for Smart Cities

Abstract

As smart city technologies continue to evolve, enhancing urban living through interconnected systems and devices, they also bring significant cybersecurity and data privacy challenges. This paper introduces a technical framework that leverages blockchain technology to address these challenges effectively. By deploying a smart contract on the Ethereum blockchain, we ensure secure data storage and retrieval, maintaining the integrity and privacy of data. Our methodology includes a comprehensive risk assessment using statistical methods, continuous real-time monitoring of cybersecurity events, and automated report generation to provide actionable insights. The risk assessment involves analyzing sample datasets to identify potential vulnerabilities and calculate risk scores. Continuous monitoring detects cybersecurity threats as they occur, allowing for prompt response and mitigation. We illustrate the effectiveness of our approach with a hypothetical smart city implementation, showcasing best practices and lessons learned from similar real-world scenarios. Our findings demonstrate that blockchain technology significantly enhances the security and privacy of smart city data, providing a scalable and practical solution to cybersecurity and data integrity issues. This paper offers a valuable resource for smart city developers and cybersecurity professionals, presenting a framework that can be quickly adopted and tailored to meet specific city requirements.
