Image based blockchains: A comparative study

Abstract

Data security has remained a challenging task over decades for researchers. Blockchain unique immutability and distributed ledger has proposed it as a potential solution to the problem. Blockchain has been successful in safely storing textual data, researchers are now focusing on implementing it for securing images data. Images are used to store large amount of data and are prone to potential data tampering. Images uses different image processing techniques such as thresholding, segmentation making it difficult to securely store in blockchain. Researchers are trying to implement blockchain in securing image data. A lots of contribution has already been made in securing medical image data using blockchain. This paper highlights few of the development done by different authors in implementing blockchain on images using various image processing methodologies and distributed databases.
