Demystifying the Digital Identity Challenges and the Blockchain Role
Abstract
A digital identity is a personal information used in identity management in online services such as citizen identification, authentication, and authorization to access systems, networks, and applications. Currently, private and public organizations are turning to blockchain as a proven way to build secure and reliable infrastructure and improve services. This chapter is intended to explore how blockchain is used in identity verification, based on distributed ledger technology, as it enables the secure storage and management of corporate digital IDs and end users. In addition to potentially preventing mass data breaches, the use of blockchain could allow individuals to retain control of their digital identities.
