A Performance Evaluation of Two Blockchain Platforms for a Use Case

Abstract

This paper describes the results of benchmarking two blockchain platforms’ performance. The authors conducted a performance assessment of various actions including adding, editing, deleting, and selecting the data from a blockchain. The blockchain platforms were run locally, in Ganache for Ethereum and IBM Blockchain Platform for Hyperledger Fabric. Additionally, code optimizations at the smart-contract level resulted in higher test speeds for both cases. The experimental case consisted in storing students’ diploma identification numbers, with the practical aim of preventing document forgeries.
