Smart contracts: a medical intervention that automates remote patient monitoring

Abstract

The rise in popularity of sensor nodes and health monitoring technologies has led to an increase in problems related to secure data transmission and recording. To ensure the secure analysis and administration of sensing devices that generate protected health information, several studies have proposed the utilization of smart contracts based on blockchain technology. In a local framework, based on detectors communicating with a device, smart contracts activate and activities are recorded on an Ethereum blockchain system. This method enables immediate alerts for patients and medical professionals, while also maintaining a record of the individuals initiating these actions. Automating notifications for everyone involved can help mitigate security issues associated with remote health monitoring. This chapter explores the use of smart contracts to authorize Internet of Things (IoT) devices and presents a legally compliant and secure approach for utilizing medical sensors. This chapter explores the use of blockchain-based smart contracts for the secure evaluation and administration of medical sensors.
