Un Bitcoin, un meme: La creación de memes en la comunidad de Bitcoin

Authors:Arantxa López *

Abstract

Internet communities appropriate the language of memes to make the message stronger, have more reach, and strengthen the references they manage within their environment. This happens with communities such as cryptocurrencies, specifically Bitcoin, an idea that could be considered a meme in itself. This paper seeks to understand the Bitcoin space and how users create and share memes to strengthen the concept. It also contrasts the shared characteristics and differences between Bitcoin and memes that have become more evident during a year of quarantine. To do so, Yan Pritzker's proposal in Let's Invent Bitcoin (2019) will be studied as a basis along with the Internet meme definition. Descriptive research was selected, which employs documentary and non-experimental field research with techniques such as interviewing bitcoiners, meme creators, and users who share them in their networks and literature review to have sufficient documentation on the topic.
