A Comprehensive Review on the Role of Blockchain in Reinforcing Security for Industrial IoT
Abstract
The security of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is crucial, and blockchain has emerged as a frequently adopted method for securing data storage and transfer through decentralized, trustless, and peer-to-peer systems. The integration and interoperation of blockchain and IIoT are significant developments in computational communication systems. Hence this paper presents a systematic analysis of the most commonly used blockchain-based security methods including consensus algorithms, smart contracts, and distributed ledger technology, and their application in securing IIoT. The paper highlights the importance of considering the security issues of IIoT and provides a thorough analysis of the blockchain-based solutions available to address these challenges. However, the security of IIoT remains a major concern due to the vulnerabilities that exist in the system. It also discusses the advantages as well as limitations of each method, providing a comprehensive understanding of their suitability for different IIoT use cases. Thus the integration of blockchain technology with IIoT has the potential to revolutionize the way industrial systems operate and provide a secure and robust environment. The paper also suggests areas for further research to explore the full potential of blockchain technology in securing IIoT applications.
