Abstract

In today&s;s interconnected world, sharing of private data in a secure way is the need of the hour. Current centralized systems are not providing adequate security and privacy measures, leading to data breaches and privacy concerns. This chapter investigates the use of blockchain technology in combination with the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) to address these challenges. By making use of the decentralized and unchangeable feature of blockchain and IPFS&s;s distributed file storage, a robust solution for secure data sharing with improved user privacy is proposed. The combination of blockchain and IPFS enables transparent and auditable recordkeeping of data transactions while ensuring that files are stored and accessed in a decentralized manner. Smart contracts on the blockchain enforce access control rules, allowing only authorized users to retrieve or modify specific files. This approach enhances user privacy by reducing reliance on centralized intermediaries and providing greater control over data access permissions. To fully achieve the promises of this combined solution, issues like scalability, latency, and user experience need to be fully resolved. Taking everything considered, blockchain integration with IPFS provides a promising platform for secure and private data sharing in various applications, ranging from healthcare to finance and beyond.
