Central Bank Digital Currency: A Bibliometric and Content Analysis
Abstract
Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) is a digital revolutionary idea built on distributed ledger and smart contracts systems. With the introduction of virtual currency, central banks are no longer limited to accepting cash as payment. Along with many benefits of CBDCs, technological, social, and economic obstacles impede its execution. This research aims to provide insight into the development of CBDCs, how they serve in the payment, and hinder their adoption through bibliometric and content analysis. Applying a mixed-method approach, this study first underscored the yearly publication trends, prominent journals, and documents. Moreover, the qualitative technique provides insights into prevailing literature themes, ensuring a thorough understanding of the topic.
