Blockchain Based Decentralized Spectrum Trading Using Smart Contracts

Abstract

The wireless spectrum, although a finite resource, is often sub-optimally managed, leading to underutilization and lengthy allocation timelines. Blockchain’s inherent characteristics including decentralization, traceability, and tamper-proofing are crucial for designing efficient spectrum management systems, creating a secure and reliable transaction environment. This paper presents a framework for creating a decentralized secondary marketplace for spectrum trading through blockchain technology to optimize spectrum utilization. Our experiments validate the capability of Blockchain to monetize and facilitate on-demand spectrum trading between operators to improve utilization. This study highlights the benefits of decentralization and trust inherent in blockchain technology, offering spectrum holders and buyers a flexible and efficient trading platform.
