Innovating Healthcare With Blockchain Technology

Authors:John Shiny J. *

Abstract

Blockchain is a P2P distributed ledger technology that makes the records of any digital asset transparent and immutable without third parties. This blockchain represents a distributed database or ledger using secure protocol and a network of computers verifies the correctness before being recorded and approved. So, blockchain ensures the trustworthiness of a user and ensures secure data can be transferred, retrievable, and manipulated. The common consensus mechanisms for blockchain include proof of work (PoW), proof of stake (PoS), and practical Byzantine fault tolerance (PBFT). Healthcare is a measure to improve the health of human beings through diagnosis, prevention, awareness, treatment. There are many challenges in maintaining healthcare data. They include maintaining patient records, inefficiencies and errors in data sharing, issues in claiming health insurance, lack of online medical stores and drug management, and no remote access to medical records.
