Utilizing IOTA Distributed Ledger Platform for Security in Model Predictive Frequency Control System of Microgrid

Abstract

In recent years, the demand for renewable energy sources has increased significantly, and microgrids have emerged as an effective solution for integrating renewable energy sources into the power grid. In microgrid systems, distributed control is crucial for ensuring reliable and efficient operation. However, conventional control systems have limitations such as a single point of failure, security vulnerabilities, and lack of trust between different stakeholders. A common type of attack is the false data injection attack (FDIA). The proposed system utilizes smart contracts and the Tangle, a data structure used by the Internet of Things Application (IOTA), to enable secure and efficient data exchange among different stakeholders in the microgrid. The system also employs the IOTA token, which allows for secure and transparent transactions among different parties. Ultimately, case studies are introduced to confirm that the proposed hierarchical blockchain system is a robust solution for securing the control system and enhancing the advantages for prosumers. The numerical results illustrate the effectiveness and practicality of the approach.
