Blockchain applications in metaverse environments: new horizons

Abstract

The integration of blockchain technology into the metaverse represents a pivotal development in the evolution of digital environments, offering enhanced security, transparency, and user empowerment. This chapter delves into the theoretical foundations, applications, benefits, and challenges of leveraging blockchain within the metaverse. Through a comprehensive analysis, we examine how blockchain technology underpins the operational dynamics of the metaverse, facilitating secure transactions, authentic digital ownership, and decentralized governance models. We also explore the practical applications of blockchain in the metaverse, including tokenization of assets, smart contracts, and decentralized autonomous organizations, which collectively enhance the functionality and economic viability of virtual worlds.
