Proof-of-Stake blockchain security against quantum computing

Abstract

In this chapter, we described a simple and efficient method to realize the VRF functionality required in the blockchain setting for the leader election problem. Our solution does not involve a racing condition as in Bitcoin and can be instantiated from well-known basic (post-quantum) primitives. We believe that our iVRF-based approach can be readily deployed in the Algorand blockchain system as only minor modifications are needed.
